I have a passport for my son. Is that sufficient for DCL? I will be traveling w/ my 5 year old. We are going on the Western Caribbean. I really don't want to go through the hassle of getting anything notarized by his dad who is not involved in any way with us. Wouldn't the passport be sufficient?
I still think the best thing is to have a notarized "permission slip" from Dad ... do you have sole custody? If so, I'd go to the court house and get a certified copy of the paperwork ... that with the passport should be okay.
It's a shame that "honest" parents have to jump thru hoops to take their kids on vacations out of the country, but I'm willing to jump thru those hoops if it keeps one child from being abducted by a parent.
I'm traveling with my kids and grandkids ... I have custody of the two younger grandkids ... I applied for passports for them and will get a notarized letter from my granddaughter's daddy AND I will be taking certified copies of the custody orders naming me their legal guardian ... even though their mom is traveling with us.
My forner DIL is applying for a passport for her son, plus I'm sending her an affidavit to sign giving both my son and me permission to take Christian out of the country and obtain medical attention for him if needed ... a lot of hoops, but I don't want to be left in the terminal waving good-bye as the Wonder sails away.
