Where are the best places for a single diner to eat? I am going to DLR 2/23-2/27/08 for a special event hosted by another message board, so 1 night is covered, but I may be eating by myself for some of the trip. Recommendations? As much as I love burgers, fries & pizza, I wouldn't mind some other food or a sit down resturant...

PS: The dinner for the event is at Blue Bayou.

If the weather's nice, we enjoy two places:

- Carnation Cafe (on Main St.) for Bfast. (we do this after touring early for EE/MM). DW enjoys the eggs benedict & DS likes the Mickey Waffles. (& I get a granola parfait & eat off of both of their plates :cool1: )

- La Trattoria (sp?) in DCA. Really nice "sit outside" moderate dining. Nice lunch menu with salads & sandwiches & pasta (medditeranian style) DW has also escaped there several times for a glass of wine.

Others will chime in with more & hopefully with the allears link (for menus/pricing etc.).

Have fun. :thumbsup2

I plan to eat vegetarian gumbo from Royal Street Veranda while perched on a brick wall, people-watching, next weekend. :)

It's sort of cheating, too, b/c people might assume I'm waiting for other members of my party, though I might also be informed by nice folk that there is no Fantasmic if I perch too late in the day. :) (a nice Seaworld employee let me know I had my F! day wrong in December, when she rightfully assumed I was perched for that...but this trip I know there's no F! at all)

I will also be very happy to sit outside at Cafe Orleans munching on beignets, people-watching and reading a book or writing in my journal.

OK, can you tell that I've been to the actual New Orleans twice, both times completely alone, and therefore am very comfy in NOS alone? :rotfl:

Will you be sitting on that brick wall Jan 25, 26 or 27? I usually sit right by the PL raft entrance to watch the show and eat my snack. And even though we live only 30 min away, I'm spending my birthday weekend at the GCH.

Ok so I have never actually eaten at these places but, I would if I was there. How's that for a disclaimer!?

Rancho Del Zocalo
Golden Horseshoe with the Billies
Plaza Inn
Cafe Orleans (sp?)

I know others know where to find the menus online I forget what they are so, I am of no help.

I had lunch with friends at Storyteller yesterday. Saw 2 singles come in and seated right away. And that got me seriously thinking about your question.

StoryTeller Cafe in GCH: sitdown, can have a relatively relaxing meal if you go early...do not have a late dinner here according to CMs, too many famlies come after the parade to eat, crying kids, cranky parents.

Plaza Inn (DL): sit outside, large portions of food

Brennan's (DTD): try for an outside table

Someone has already suggested Cafe Orleans, and Wine Country Trattoria both with outside seating. I like NOS for eating...plus my favorite spot to eat a snack is on the brick wall facing PL.

Another favorite is Taste Pilot's Grill next to Soarin'. In addition to the regular hamburger fare, they have salads and ribs. We like the music loop of Condor Flats, again sit outside.

I would be sitting there on the 25th, if I don't change my mind. I've been looking at menus online and am starting to think outside the gumbo box (bread bowl?), though I dunno, it's a meal I enjoy, and DL is too expensive to chance it on a short trip! :)

I just found my notes and I'm thinking of C.O., depending on whose menu is right...allears says that as of October they have a creole ratatouille, but dlresortinfo shows a different menu as of October, no ratatouille there. So if it's on there that's where I'm eating on the 25th. Maybe. :rotfl:

I cant comment on Ranch Del Zocalo because I have never eaten there and never will....not because its bad but because I live in california and there is an abundance of mexican restaurants, taco shops, taco trucks etc....everywhere I turn so the last place Im going to go eat at in DL is a mexican restaurant:lmao: but if your not as fortunate as I in this area it might be a good idea...

Plaza Inn is great...real homestyle cooking...fried chicken and pot roast to name a couple..

I like cafe orleans for the fact that they have the monte cristo for half of what you pay for at BB..and they have good breakfasts too...

I love Carnation Cafe breakfasts and lunch...they have this awesome potato soup and turkey sandwich to die for

and Riverbelle Terrace has really good breakfasts and a really good pulled pork sandwich...

also if you want to watch a parade or fireworks and you like corn dogs...you have to get one from DL...they serve it at the little red wagon at the end of main st. next to Plaza Inn...you cant miss it....and the corn dogs are HUGE!!!...
