We're not special, we just think of ourselves as being better than elderly people like you.
About 15 years ago I referred to my grandfather, who fought in Germany in WWII, as "elderly".......
he didn't like it.
So your elderly comment probably won't go over well with that crowd. For some reason the geezers find "elderly" offensive.
Today my grandfather is 95 years old. Each year he marches in the local Independence Day Parade. He used to carry the flag but he's too old for that now. Anyway he marches up front and all the Korea guys and some Vietnam guys are riding in convertibles behind him. He loves that he walks while younger guys ride. So the marchers are Desert Storm guys and one WWII vet. It's pretty remarkable to see.
So my grandfather is 95 and going strong. My dad died at 64 of cancer. Life is not fair.
