Sims2...questions

I'm posting these questions here because I can't access the Sims website right now.
I am new to the Sims games and I just bought Sims 2
but am experiencing some weird things and I have some questions...

1 - I created two bathrooms in the basement, one has the female sign on it the other the male sign, but whenever a Sim goes to use the bathroom (autonomously), even if they are standing in front of the right one, they begin to yell at me... then they either walk away from the bathroom or go in anyway, why is this happening?
It didn't happen when I first put the bathrooms there but now it is.

2 - A similar problem to the one above where a Sim goes to the door when guests arrive but then starts yelling at me like there is a problem with the door but then they open it anyway...this doesn't happen all the time but why is it happening

3 - Once one of the counters in the kitchen mysteriously moved in front of the stove and so my Sim couldn't get to the stove... but because there was a cooking object on the counter I couldn't move it so I had to delete it and buy a new one to put back in the right spot, Sim continued to cook after that...why did this happen?

4 - How do I feed the toddler in the high chair? I can only give him a bottle.

5 - How do I meet the wants of a family aspiration single mother with a toddler...he takes up so much time…she can't go out and leave him at home and it would take up to much time to invite someone over...I can't even meet the career want b/c of the hours...there is no one else to take care of him (he still needs to be potty trained, learn how to walk and talk)...and I don't have enough money for a babysitter…what do I do? I don't want her to become depressed.

Thanks.

What do you mean "autonomously"? boys should use the boys room, girls the girls room...is there something "wrong" in the bathroom? a window in front of the toilet maybe? they dont' like that.

You've created some picky Sims, eh? heheh Is ANYTHING blocking it?

Sometimes the game just freaks out...weird things like that happen. One time, my car-pool car drove into my living room. hehehe

Maybe all they eat is a bottle? I haven't played in a while and I forget when toddlers graduate to real food...sorry.

You need to learn the cheats...heheh. Cheat, get more money, and hire a nanny. :)

Hope that kinda helped

I mean on their own. There are no windows in the bathroom. I just created two boxes/rooms and put a toilet and sink in both.

No. That’s the thing. It just happens sometimes, I don’t know if they don’t want to let the people in or what…
It funny you say picky because I have another Sim that won’t put anything on the little table thing I have by the front door, she just looks at it and yells at me…I have the same table in the bedroom with the clock on it. Another Sim uses the table and puts the newspaper on it, so I don’t know what her problem is…LOL…

What is in their "bubble" when they yell? anything? Maybe they don't like the decor. Did you put a light in the bathroom? (do YOU like to pee in the dark?)

is the table "in use" by something you can't see? (I have issues losing bills sometimes.) Can you try to delete it and put it back? (FYI - the "move objects" cheat is the best..you can delete bills...even the mail box...and never have to pay. You can also delete "broken" objects...or "burnt food" from fires)

Either that - or you have truely hideous taste in your choice of furnishings. hehehe

The toddlers can eat from the high chair. If you click on the chair with the toddler in it it should give you an option to feed him/her cereal (I believe).

Also you can use a reward point and get the smart milk. That will help your single-mom sim to get through the tasks of potty training, walking and talking faster. And you can meet sims while they are walking in front of the house too, you just have to get there fast and introduce yourself. Also, talk on the phone alot and invite people over. Sometimes they will bring a new character over to visit.

Check those bathrooms, sometimes if they don't have light or some lighting fixture the sims won't be very happy about using them. And I'd maybe remove the doors that are gender specific. I know alot of sims have a fear of public restrooms and if those doors are in their home they may not want to actually use them since they remind them of the public ones.

Hope this helps too!

hmm...good catch about the light, maybe thats the problem? I think I have one light in each but maybe they need more...

no there is nothing on the table, she just moved in.

thanks.

OH yeah !!! I forgot about this! Alot of Sims DO have the public bathroom fear...and "denoting" boy/girl bathrooms gives it a "public" feel.

Good catch desiree!

(I have to re-install Sims 2/University...our HD crashed and burned a few months ago...DH finally has a new one installed)

DOH! Hopefully you'll get it up and running soon. :sunny: Have you tried Nightlife expansion yet? It's awesome!

thanks desiree, I didn't try putting him in the high chair and then trying to feed him..duh!

also good insight about the bathroom. Most of my sims are neat so maybe the signs puts them off...
I will just change the doors to normal ones and add more light.

Yeah, I guess the mom will have to spend time on the phone...

(wow, these sims demand alot don't they)

Thanks.

Yea, they are pretty needy!! :teeth:

With nightlife there is a new Pleasure Aspiration. It's pretty cool!

Do you have to install University before Nightlife or can I just buy Nightlife? Will it mess up my game?

I really don't want University but is there an advantage to getting it?

Thanks.

I don't think there is an advantage to it. About the only thing that is neat is that you get 3-4 more career choices. I think as long as you have The Sims 2 you can put whatever expansion pack you want on it.

And no, it wont mess up your game. It will just give you more options of places to go and you get to own a car now and drive whereever you want.

Yesterday would have been a good day for me to do it...but I was so lazy I just putzed all day!

How much does Nightlight drag your system down? University gets slow when I have a lot of people in action at once (ie - I always pick to live in the smallest dorms possible).

What does Nightlife offer? Pleasure aspiration (omg...how dirty is this game gonna get...please tell me a sim can't increase that ON HIS/HER OWN if you know what I mean. hehehe) and a car...is that it? I can deal w/o the car really.

but I always like new clothes for sims. heheh

maybe i'll ask DH for it for christmas.

I just opened this thread and went off to buy the game, ordered from Amazon. I LOVED The Sims but haven't played it in a while. How does Sims 2 compare?

Do they still spend an hour taking a shower? Do they move faster? I used to wake them up at 4 a.m. just so they'd be ready for work LOL!

Stinkerbelle.. Yes, you have more options but it's not as dirty as you think. You can "AHEM" in the car though. The best part is there are a TON of options of places that you can go. You can go bowling, to restaurants, clubs, museums, parks, etc. And you can actually go on dates. Those are fun. If you get good enough at going on the dates, the date will bring you flowers or sometimes other gifts (new tv sets). Oh and another thing.. you can be a vampire! It's hilarious you can 'stalk' around town. Of course it's hard to hold a job as a vampire being as you can only go out at night. The vampires catch on fire and everything! It's very funny! :rotfl2:

Free4life11.. I LOVE the Sims2 and I think you will like it too. There are so many more options and trust me when I say.. it's VERY addicting! The best part is that you can be abducted if you look out of a telescope at night and both men and women come back pregnant with an alien baby!!

I think the showers do much better now. You can get a few things accomplished before going to work now. If you wake up with an alarm before the car picks you up, you can go to the bathroom, shower and eat breakfast by the time you actually have to leave. (The car comes but you actually have at least the remainder of the hour before you actually get in).

Thanks Desiree! I'll have to look into it!

Free4Life - Sims 2 blows the original sims out of the water. If your computer system can handle it...it's amazing. (luckily - DH had installed a fast/powerful/whatever video card in our puter for a game he was playing online...so the graphics were just amazing)

I could "build" people and homes all day...and be happy with that. :)

I love my Sims 2 games and Expansion packs!!
Another cool thing about Nightlife is with cars now, you can go to work late. You do not have go an hour early anymore.
There are also alot of new build mode items ( I really enjoy building houses)- there are now half walls, driveways and garage doors. New wallcoverings and floor tiles.
There are many cool interactions- there are dates , group outings, poker games and duets on the karoke machines. Also it is hilarious to watch a group of bad dancers do "The Smustle". :rotfl:

You guys have been a big help!

Just remembered another question...
Sometimes when guests arrive at the front door a little pop-window will show up allowing me to preview who it is... but at other times it doesn't come up... is there a way or code to enter that will allow it to come up?

thanks

Free, at least you've played the Sims before. I have never played so there is a huge learning curve for me. I'm mastering pretty quickly though, I just bought the game on Friday and I have already created my own little neighborhood and built a 2 story house/apartment building, with basement :)
It is hard to pull the plug while playing this game though, you just never want to stop.

I just purchased Nightlife thanks to Desiree, I figured since I'm just starting out it would be nice to have my Sims drive their own cars and go out on a date.
I'm a little weary about installing it as I don't want to lose my house/apartment building. This is the only lot I've built and I furnished it beautifully, I don't want to lose it.
