I rushed out to buy The Sims 2 yesterday, I was so excited!! Got home and it wouldn't load. It would just sit in the CD drive going "click...click...click." So, called DS who is way more computer literate than me and he came over to install it. He couldn't get it to install on the desktop either, the 2nd CD in the box would run fine, so knew it wasn't the CD drive that was the problem. Installed it on my laptop though, but since it took forever to load DS left (he's leaving for a weekend vacation today so had a lot to do). Told me I shouldn't have a problem finishing it. Yeah, right. After it finished loading a message came up about needing a new graphics driver...ugh!! So, I have to wait...and I'm not doing it very patiently! It'll probably be at least Tuesday before he can come back over to fix it for me.....I'm so bummed!!! :( Did anybody else have trouble loading it?

we didn't have trouble installing it...just trouble running it! my laptop isn't strong enough for it i guess...it runs but it runs really sloooooooooooooooooooooooow. we're looking into a new computer, but i'm not sure when that will actually happen. so if i want to play it now, i just have to be patient!

good luck and i hope you get it to work!

No problems at all, but both pc's exceed the requirements. I did have to upgrade my directx on one of the pc's, though

An article in the paper yesterday stated that almost half of the Sims players don't have a PC that can run Sims 2. Glad I'm a geek and built my computer. It can run almost anything. :teeth:

as for the video stuff, here's the direct info:

Minimum Requirements:
If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:

800 MHz processor or better
256 MB RAM if Windows XP, ME, 98 or 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space.

If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least:

2.0 GHz processor or better
256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

To put that jibberish in english, If you have just recently bought a computer (say in the past 6-8 months) then you should have no problem playing it...

However older computers will need a decent video card to play it.

chatty: for updated video drivers, go to your computers' builders website. they should have all the info you need

heheh

thank GOD DH "frakensteined" a PC for us...when I showed him the Sims 2 requirements he laughed and said "that's all it requires? don't worry - the PC can handle it"

looks like NOTHING is getting done in my house this weekend..my copy should be delivered today from amazon...got the DVD version.

My son had exactly the same problem with the new NHL 2005 program and he did indeed install the new graphics driver that he downloaded from the internet. When he comes home from school, I will get him to give you instructions to do it, if you like.

We are having the same problem with the video card--I bought my computer in January so I cant understand why it wouldnt work.

I called EA tech support and they told me I needed to download an updated video something or other, then I called Dell and they told me that downloading wouldnt work because I didnt have to right video card anyway

I just dont know what I'm supposed to download anyway????

You need to know what graphics card you have. To figure this out go to START, then RUN then type DXDIAG then press enter. Click on display and information will come up. Where it says NAME will be the name of your graphics card.

To download the newest version of the driver, simply go to the company's website and follow the links to the driver that matches your system.

Then restart your computer.

Hope this helps!!!

Anyone know if/when Sims 2 will come out for the Mac? Thanks!

Arg! My laptop is about 2 years old, the desktop is about a year old. I'm afraid, even after DS gets the new graphics driver, that I still won't be able to play it.

I can't understand why it just "click...click...clicks" in the CD drive of the desktop.

I would try to install the driver myself but DH is paranoid that I'll "screw something up" so I have to wait for DS.

Hopefully Tuesday....*sigh*

Any chance you have a cd drive on your desktop, and bought the dvd version of sims2?

Thank you Damo, it worked!!!!!! Yay!!!!

It works on mine. Barely.

I don't have a good enough graphics card and I can't afford to buy a new one. The game itself was my splurge for the month (that was an expensive game. Usually I never buy ones that cost more than $30).

I got the Sims 2 for my birthday. It was hard enough having to wait until October 25th to get this game but I finally got it.

Well, it plays but barely!!!

It is sooooo slow. I found out that it's the video card. So, I call Dell to see if an update will help and the technician who answered the phone said,

"We're sorry ma'am but you have an integrated Graphics card. Which in computer language means it's in the motherboard, it's not something that's seperate and can be replaced. So I ask the guy well, can I just replace it w/ a different video card and he says no, there is no space for it!!!

I am so disgusted because I just bought this computer in June of this year! It's not some old computer that's out of date but I am so frustrated that I can't play this game. Basically the guy said the game is useless on your computer.

Do you guys know of anything else I can do? Is it possible to make a space for a new video card? I really want to play this game and I just bought this computer so I can't buy a new computer just to accomodate a game.

Any help Please!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIA

If you want to play computer games stay away from integrated video cards. Never ever buy a computer with an integrated video card. Sims2 runs on our computer that is 1 year old, GREAT. We updated the drivers and the game runs even better. Just a heads up for those of you buying new computers.

Well, it's kind of too late because I already have the stupid integrated one. My DBiL seems to think that we can add a new video card and just override the integrated one.

What do you guys who know computers think?

We have a Dell. Now I know for the future not to buy a computer w/ the integrated video card but am I totally at a loss?

We just got this computer in June and DH isn't going to let me buy a new computer just for one game.

Help, please.

TIA

My son had no problem installing it but his computer runs it very slow!!!:(

My dh did that on our last computer. It had an intergrated video card which wasn't fast enought. We bought another video card and overid the other. We did have some trouble with them conflicting but he fixed it. I can't remember right now how but can find out if you need it.

I dont understand the draw of this game. What is the prupse? Is it kinda like RollerCoaster Tycoon?
