First off, Jen, you failed to mention that your equation only works to find the hypotenuse of the right angle triangle....

So in Rhonda's case it will work assuming that the house isn't extremely old and out of square, or she is not placing the tv in a bay window, or in a corner that is something other than 90 degrees...

So, in her case 24 sq + 24 + = 1152 Now the square root of 1152 is... 33.9.

So that means you have aprox 40 inches to work with... and you are trying to place a 32" Tv there, so on first blush it would seem like it would work... but let us not forget that the measurement of a 32" Tv is on the diagonal... and does not include the speakers and tv case.

So in this case, even with all the higher math, we still can not infer that the tv will fit without further informantion.

Ok I am off to catch up with what I missed everywhere else!

OK Professor, the original Rhonda question stated a RIGHT TRIANGLE. Sooooo, I calculated based on what she asked....thpppp...

A 32inch TV screen is in actuality 31.5 inches in diameter. But, as professor John pointed out, you would need to take in account extras like the box the tv is in (if it is not a flat screen) and such a sundries as speakers. If you are working on the assumption of a flat screen, you will have about 2 inches to work with.

Now....who wants to help me decorate? We're moving into another house next month. It's an older, smaller house. But it's on the water (woo-hoo!) so, I am thinking about a beachy-type theme. Light colors, breezy feel. The walls are already light yellow, so I'm going with that. (I hate painting).

I don't have much money to work with, so I'm starting to watch consignment shops, etc. for accent pieces -- whitewashed end tables, beach scene pictures...stuff like that.

Any other ideas for me?

But seriously....the TIKI theme is a fun and very inexpensive way to decorate for a beachy feel.
