Well, Simon my ds arrived safely, and was met by Disney at the airport and taken to a complex where he will be living for the next year called The Commons, which is near the Golden Corral at LBV. His apartment is lovely and has a fridge washing machine, and even a dishwasher. He is sharing with two other cm's from Italy and France. He went shopping and bought himself some new bedding, and also groceries, but although he bought the basics he forgot stuff like cooking oil, and butter etc. He'll learn!!!!!
After completion of paperwork, yesterday he had a day at the Disney University learning about " Traditions " and they went backstage for the first time at the MK to eat. He described the experience as surreal! Today and tomorrow all the ' newbies' have the day off, but have unlimited park passes, and also access all area passes at all the parks, so they have the best of all worlds days in the parks, but food at reduced prices in the backstage areas. He has said that although the food is good he may make himself sarnies when he is working to save money! My how things are different without Mum and Dad's credit cards!!!!!!
Tonight they are all off to see Brittany Spears who is performing in Orlando. On Tuesday he has Discovery Day at Epcot, and then on Wed he has ' Merchandearing ' ie learning about the Merchandise!!!!Then on Thurs he starts work at Epcot ' Earning His Ears ! ' He is having a blast, and is on a real high. Lucky him.He says to say a big hi to you all, and thanks you for your good wishes. Don't forget to drop by and say hello if you are out there, and he does know to look out for lime green ribbon. Carolyn:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

So pleased he's having such a good time. Sounds great, doesn't it? Oh to be 19 again!

That sounds fantastic! :bounce:

Jealous, me?
Now, why would I be jealous of being 19, carefree, working in WDW........... ?

That sounds brilliant....I wish I was 19 again

What an exciting week at work i wish mine where like that!!!

Love the updates please say hi from all of us.

Eda

Thank you for posting this update - as Eda says, it's wonderful to hear all about Simon's experiences :D
It sounds just wonderful! I just love the idea of Discovery Day at Epcot!!
Please keep us informed and tell him we say hallo and to keep enjoying himself out there :) !

Sounds wonderful - how lovely to have these updates! Say hello back to Simon and wish him well :)

Oh, I am so jealous! That just sounds brilliant.

I have been backstage at Epcot once, when my marching band performed we got to go to Costuming to get changed. It's pretty bizarre seeing everything that you aren't supposed to see.

That sounds great so far!

Say hi back to him, and as I said before, I shall be looking out for him in August...I assume he's working in the UK Pavillion somewhere, right?

Penny :D

What an exciting and challenging time he will be having..lucky him!To meet people who he never ordinarily would have met.

Is he paid for this;) I think I would pay them to be there if I was young enough!

:D
That sounds very exciting for him!! I will be sure to keep an eye out for him when we're there in October.

Carolyn

Great!

So far so good then - looking forward to further updates.

How wonderful!!!!

I will definitely look for him and I hope I can find him next time I visit WDW :)

Aloha,
Lorraine

Thanks to all for the replies. Well, he has now completed all the formalities including 'merchantainment,' and today they've let him loose on the guests! He is in the U.K. Pavillion, selling any merchandise. Sometimes he will be inside, and sometimes on the carts outside. They rotate them during the day to give them a change. He will not be selling food and beverage, because that is a different section. I don't know now when I will next be speaking to him, because he does not know when his day off is, and on his work days he will not be getting back to his apartment until about 4.30am U.K. time, and I'm not that keen to hear how he is!!!!! Anyway we will be out there ourselves in 11 days so I'll find out some more then. Carolyn:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Hiya!

Did your son by any chance go to a Disney International Program meet in London a few weeks ago????

If so I was there! If it is the same Simon we are talking about then I'm glad to hear he is having fun. He has posted once since he arrived in the Commons, on our International Program boards to let us know how things went. We are all so jelous though as some of us still have interviews in October to get through.

It really is a small world after all..................... :D

Ona ;)
