After reading some reviews. I am scared :bitelip: We booked this too good to be true special for Silver Lake way back in June. Now, I am hearing horror stories about how the place is going thru major construction. It is like this, we will not beable to stay for a week anywhere else because of the price we booked it for. Someone please tell me something good or something that will calm my fears. I certainly do not want this trip to be horrible because of busted up pools and torn up playgrounds. we did expect to spend sometime on property because this is just or winter get away trip. We wait till our timeshare week to do most of the attractions in May. Help anyone :listen:

Hi - I'm sure you will be fine and have a wonderful trip. I'm not sure about the construction they are doing, but maybe you could just give them a call to find out the status of the pool, etc..

The location to Disney is fantastic. You are practically next to Animal Kingdom. The resort was nice and clean when we were there.

I would just give them a call to double check the construction status and get ready to enjoy your visit.

Have a wonderful trip!

I just got back from two weeks there. The pool area is fine (as far as I could tell - I didn't use it), but the area just next to it was newly graded and surrounded by barricades. The future plan for the resorts shows that this area will be a tennis court. I'm not sure what was there before.

There is a building going up a short distance west from Building 900. Buildings 1700 and 700 would look directly at it.

Block is laid for the first two floors and they were starting to frame the steel on the third and forth floor. The noise started at 7am M-Sat.

Call and see what building you are in. I would recommend buildings 1800, 100, 200 or 300. My room at the west end of 900 overlooked the construction area.

I have always loved Silver Lake because of its proximity to the parks using Sherberth Road. I would go there again. I loved accessing the internet on the free DSL units near the work out room.

I tried to not let the construction bother me, but then again, I try to never let much bother me on a vacation. I needed to call the front desk many times to have maintenance issues in my unit resolved. All were addressed quickly and I just learned to laugh at the others. (A sprinkler head next to the main door to building 900 was broken and sprayed water in front of the door making it impossible to get through it without getting sprayed).

Its great you got such a good deal on a nice condo so close to Disney. Look at the bright side and try to laugh at the rest. And above all - HAVE FUN!!!

You can call them and get an update on the construction for during your stay.

When is your trip? We are staying there next week, Oct. 22-29 so I can let you know when we get back unless your trip is the same week :) I am a little anxious too after reading the latest posts, hopefully it will be okay.

2BigKIdz,

ours is November 11-18th. I would not be in such a tizzy but my mother the queen of complaints will be with us and I donot want to spend a week hearing her complaining about a timeshare. We will live as long as it clean and have the basic amenities but my mother Oh boy  So please post and let me know all the details

hey so is mind!!!

but they can surprise you. She had refused for years to even consider a value resort. I told her I was staying at one - if she didn't want to go that was her right. She came and guess what she loved it!!!

I haven't stayed at Silver Lake yet. It should be clean and have the basic amenities.

I still can't believe that someone on skyauction bid over $500 for this place. It is nice - but when you can get most places for under $100 (including fees - $310) - to bid that much is kinda high.

Hi, I'll try to make you feel a bit better. We were there over Memorial day, on a quick RCI getaway.. and it was very adequate. The pool was in good( almost great) shape. We spent several days at the pool since it was so hot. there is a nice snack bar right next to it and it is also close to the kids club ( activity center). We were staying in the Points section and our smallish 1 bedroom was very well furnished with quality furnishings, it just could have been a bit cleaner. The bed was very comfortable and the washer and dryer were a nice addition. Don't change based on other opinions, I have pretty High expectations, and we timeshare alot. This resort is not the best one I have stayed in but it is by far not the worst either! It's close to WDW.. you may even be able to see the animal kingdom from your room. Give it a try...

I am a bit calm. Hey we stay in alot of timeshares too. I just got scared because we do tend to actually use the amenities they offer. Ok I am now back relaxed. Oh boy all I have to look forward to is actually ENJOYING a stay with my mom and 4 kids :confused3

I will post when we return. We also like to relax by the pool so I'm hoping that will be okay. Hopefully Wilma is not going to cause us any trouble.

I will be sending out some :wizard: that you won't need :umbrella: that often. It is so difficult to plan a vacation the crowds are always so nice but the weather is so iffy. So here is some extra :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that Wilma won't ruin your vacation as well as peoples home and lives in Florida.

Okay, going to be brutally honest with you....

We arrived to check-in about 4:10pm (check-in is 4pm), room not ready. It is ready by 4:30pm. They do make you go to the time share desk to arrange for the time share breakfast which we declined and they were not pushy and thankfully did not call us in the mornings to continue to invite us (which they did at Orange Lake our whole 10 days but I digress).

We were in Building 200, room 232 which was on the third floor, no elevator but it wasn't too bad of a climb. This is in the older sections and the condo is very large, but needs updating. There is enough furniture for 4 adults to be comfortable (a sofa and 2 chairs). The master bedroom is a decent size but the master bathroom is enormous. The other bedroom is adequate size and normal size bathroom. There is also a very nice screened porch. The appliances were fairly new and in good condition. There were only lamps in the bedrooms, we had to take off the lamp shade to see at night.

I saw a thread awhile back complaining about the mirrors and thought to myself what a silly complaint. Now I completely understand where the poster was coming from. There are mirrors EVERYWHERE. It took us a couple of days to adjust, then it was no big deal, but honestly it's a little strange at first.

First night we go to take a shower and realize there are only 3 towels and washcloths for 4 people for a week! The desk did give us a whole trash bag full of towels and wash cloths to make up for it. The towels were brand new so needed to be washed first.

Our dryer stopped working and they fixed it the same day which was impressive.

The security is pretty lax and on several occasions when we arrived at night there wasn't anyone in the security gate and we came right in. They did however require to see our papers before allowing us entry for check-in :confused3 That being said, our door did not always close all the way. We arrived home after a long day in the park to realize that our door had been wide open all day long, nothing was disturbed, thank goodness. (My husband had not ensured that the door latched on his way out).

It was a little chilly most of the week due to Wilma so I didn't venture to the pool but our friends did and said the pool area is very nice and the food there was also very good.

The construction did not affect us at all but they were working on the grounds of the resort. One morning they were power washing our building, another they were mowing and yet another they were building something to hide the trash receptacles but all of this was after 8am and if I had not already been awake would not have noticed.

The reception building closes at 11pm or 12am each night, which I thought a little odd, but I guess since it is a fairly small resort it's not a necessity.

All in all I would give it a 6 out of 10. It definitely wouldn't be my first choice but I would stay there again if I got a great deal. My husband liked it fine, he said I am too picky. It did not detract from our vacation, it just wasn't as nice as some of the other places we have stayed.

2 bigkidz,

HEre are a few questions.

HOw big are the t.v's in the living room and the bedrooms. My husband really wants to know. HOw stocked was the kitchen. Are their any mini marts or anything on premises.

Thanks

I stayed in the 600 building last year. The TV's were I guess 27 inches??? The LR might have been a 32 inch one. None of them were big screen.

In the new Silver Points section, they have the big wall mounted TV's! Not sure if they're plasma or LCD (someone told me that those were 2 different things - LOL).

We were in the older section, the TV in the living room was probably a 27" and a 25" or 27" in the master bedroom. The TV in the 2nd bedroom was a 13" I think, maybe it was a 19" but it seemed really small to me. They did have a good selection of channels including 3 movie channels (2 hbo and a showtime I think).

There is a small store in the reception building but I didn't pay any attention to what they had in terms of food or prices, but they didn't seem to have very much. There is a Winn-Dixie grocery store very close and a Wal-Greens pharmacy (this is where we got most of our supplies for the week).

We did not cook at all so I didn't pay any attention to cooking utensils. There were plates, cups and silverware. We had a blender, microwave, coffee maker and normal kitchen stuff.

Also, if you come out of the resort and take a left, then at the stop sign take a left on Sherberth Rd, it will take you right to the Animal Kingdom so if you are going to Disney you won't have to get on 192.

In total agreement!- We stayed in the building 1800 facing the pool. The constrution was never a problem.

The rooms were very clean (no complaints there) but the MIRROR thing was really weird, I felt like I was being watched all the time. I didn't really care for the tiles, glass & mirror decor. Felt very cold.

The staff was friendly, very quick to reponded to any problems or requests. Free internet, was great. You can see the Epcot fireworks/show from the rooms in the main buildings (1700&1800) and it's closer to "on-site" than the All-Stars.
Kitchen is very well equiped, didn't need anything else that was supplied : But it was just OK- no horror stories but I've stayed at better timeshares before.

I just don't get the whole mirror thing, I've never seen anything like it. You got it right about feeling cold, definitely need new decorators. Is 1800 a new building, one of the tall ones? We were wondering if those were nicer than what we had.

Yes it was in the tall buildings. I think they're the oldest but they looked like they had been recently redone. Furniture was still old 8o's style and not alot of it. In the huge living room, a sofa, glass coffee and 1 chair and 1 light.

It could use a rug and maybe a few more chairs.

I guess the mirror thing, keeps it easy to clean...but a clear glass shower with six mirrors surrounding you.... :earseek: :bitelip:
I ended you covering the shower with a towel..( i know more information than you need to know )

Oh I thought the tall buildings were the new buildings. Yeah, our furniture definitely looked like it was from the '80's as well, but we did have a rug in the living room, and 2 chairs. My husband and I were in the the 2nd bedroom so we didn't have as many mirrors as the master, not sure what our friends did about the mirrors, if anything :)

Gosh, I'm going there in a few weeks (we got a 3 br). Last time we stayed at Summer Bay and I warned my mom that this wasn't going to be the same but it would still be good. (She's a complainer too...<sigh>) I've been worried but from what it sounds like...it should be ok. My only problem is her comparing it to Summer Bay now! Ugh

Now...what's this about free internet? Is there wifi? I wasn't going to bring my laptop but if there's internet access within the units, I may reconsider.

Oh....we're all non-smokers....did any of your units smell like smoke? I know that at other timeshares, we were unable to request non-smoking units because they apparently didn't exist...but we've been lucky and none of the condos have smelled.

they have wireless in the lobby, but not in the rooms ( well not in the Tall building) They also have a computer room that free to use, with printer.

I can't smell smoke at all in our rooms.
