Silver Airways - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly ....

Our town just got United Airlines and Silver Airways to start flying out of our airport. This is after they let Southwest drop have of the Non Stop flights with only paying a penalty.

I have been reading some recent reviews about Silver Airways. I wanted to see if anyone here on the Dis has ever used them and what type of experience you have had.

We can get a good price, but if the services is going to be terrible, then we don't want to take the chance.

I want it all - The good, bad and the ugly.

We used them two years ago and will be using them in May. We like to fly into Key West and always have to change planes in the mainland of Florida (FLL, RSW, MCO, TPA, MIA, etc) to fly Silver into and out of Key West. Our last trip with them was fine, no complaints. Both our flights left on time and we had no problems. Hoping that will be the case this year. But I have read some not so good reviews lately on some trip advisor forums.

I'm planning to fly to Key West as well. I'm curious why you would chose Silver over Delta?

Price. Delta was double the price of United/Silver. When using United, Silver completes the flight from Florida mainland to Key West.

My sister recently used them to fly from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale. On the way down, they were delayed two hours. Coming back was a nightmare.

The flight was delayed several times. They were not told anything for a long time. Eventually, they said they were waiting on a pilot to arrive. Four hours after the flight was supposed to depart, they were allowed to board. They sat on the plane for a half hour and were told to get off the plane. By the time the pilot arrived, the other pilot had exceeded the number of hours he could work. He could not fly.

Finally, I got a call from my sister saying that they were going to drive them to Orlando and that she would get in around 3am. They put the passengers in 8 passenger vans and drove them the 4 hours to Orlando. The flight, which was supposed to be less than an hour and arrive late afternoon, ended up being a drive that arrived in the middle of the night. Silver offered nothing for the inconvenience.

While waiting for my sister at the airport, I heard several horror stories from passengers that arrived on Silver from other locations. My sister said there were several people with flights booked for the Bahamas. Silver cancelled their flights because the planes were not full enough. The offered to fly them the next day to a different island where the people would have to find their own way to their original destination. She said she had never seen so many unhappy people.

I will never used Silver for anything.
