Inspired by the Spaceship Earth thread.....
what silly things DIDN'T you know before you went to Disneyworld?

Until I did some research I had no idea that Spaceship Earth held a ride/attraction inside!
I thought the big ball was.........JUST a big ball! :jester:

I had NO comprehension as the HUGE scope of the place, 46, or there-about, square miles. That is HUGE. Marie said that also. We both had been to DL, WDW is so totally different, HUGE.

This isn't exactly what you're asking, but before I went, I didn't realize how much I could fall in love with a mouse ;)

Never thought I would think it was okay to put Mickey Mouse figurines in the curio cabinet :teeth:

Seriously, I never associated a place with "Magic" before. I had never, before my first trip there, cried at the end of a vacation.

I cried too when we had to go home.

I had to be talked INTO going...had no interest (I mean ZERO interest) in anything Disney before that.

*sigh* Isn't it a great place?

Yes, HMG, it really is. I don't know when I'm going to get back there either.

I took the kids for a kids/mom trip last Easter and we're going on the cruise this summer, but it looks like things are just going to be too tough after that to get back.

I'm trying not to think about it. It's easy with the cruise coming up, but wait until July. :(

I'm with Dan - I had no idea that WDW was so big. I knew I'd need to take a bus from my hotel to a park, but didn't understand just how spread out everything was.

I thought Toontown Fair was a part of the park where the characters just milled freely about--like they did when I went to the World's Fair as a child.

To prepare for our 1999 trip, I read trip reports and figured out that it was the place in the MK to find characters, but I had no idea that you had to wait on line to meet them.

While we were there that trip, we didn't see any characters at all. Because I had no clue that you had to go wait on the lines at the Country Fair or the Judge's Tent.

And I reported in that trip report (and I posted it on-line) that we were there too early for any characters to be out. LOL!

I didn't know there were discounts to be had! I thought a vacation at Disney would cost an arm and a leg... and maybe my firstborn. Boy.. was I wrong.

I thought I would get through 4 parks, 2 water parks, and DTD in 5 days, and all during Thanksgiving week! Hah! Was I dumb or what????:teeth:

Even though I had been there a few times since beginning in 1974, I never knew there was a Disney Village (now Downtown Disney) or any such thing as DIsney hotels until I worked there in 1992. My parents were the cheap motel types; I couldn't believe I was so out of the loop!!

I never knew that Tinkerbell flew from the Castle, even AFTER I had gone to DW the first time (we just went for the day and left before dark).
Then, the first time we stayed on-site and went to the Magic Kingdom, I knew that fireworks were about to start....
then suddenly........ TINKERBELL flew from castle! I was just so in awe of it. I couldn't believe it.
That is my favorite part of going to Disney World. :D

I never knew most of the car stuff about how they do tests that I learned on Test Track. Might sound silly but I was pretty amazed. Actually makes me feel safer driving.

I was 10 when I first went. There were 4 kids in the family and we lived on a dairy farm, so we didn't take many vacations. The thing I didn't know was that you could go back! I thought you just got one shot at Disney and then you stayed home until you grew up, had kids of your own, and took them! :p

Boy have I learned a lot!

You mean sort of like a county fair? If so, I can see how a person might think that!!! :teeth: What a riot!!!

I never realized how good mornings can really be. Funny how mornings seem too early when I'm not at WDW though.;)

I'm with Dan also, had no clue on how big it was.
I had no clue until I read these boards about the great restaurants at all the resorts.

but before we went to WDW i never knew that Magic Kindgom was in the middle of a man made Lake .

Imagine my surprise when we got to the monorail and took that over to MK. I had heard about he monorail but just thougt it was a way of getting to park to park.

It was like my worst nightmare come true on that monorail. The damn thing STOPPED and wouldn't move:eek: we had to wait for what felt like ages for a monorail train up further that had broken down to get off the tracks.

I could see MK and wanted to go there..:bounce: :bounce: lets go lets get this monorail moving i see MK and i want to be there!!!

I had no idea the place would be adult size! I can still remember walking on to Main Street USA and thinking, Oh My, this isn't just for 3 year olds. :p

I had no idea that you could ride in the front of the monorail until my daughter did it about 5 trips later. I thought you had to be a big wig.

I had no idea that the fountain at EPCOT chimed to the top of the hour until about my 10th trip and by then the fountain was one of my favorite places.

I had no idea the WDW would become my absolutely favorite place until the first time I walked into the Magic Kingdom. :earsgirl:

I can remember the first time we went, in '97, driving under the DisneyWorld sign, and driving and driving to our "exit", thinking...there are ROADS and EXITS?! Yup...the size...it just never occurred to me that WDW was it's own city.
