Silly Question? Jogger Stroller tires on plane?

Hi... Okay, I might sound rediculous with this question, but it came to mind...

I've been reading how many of you with kids still over 5 are or did bring strollers. My kids will be 7 and 5 by our trip. We have a double jogging stroller they both could still fit in. I have felt like I might want to bring it, just in case our first day is too much on them. My husband doesn't want to have to schlep it on the plane.

Then I thought... will the change in air pressure deflate the bicycle tires on the jogger? If so, can I safely assume the hotel will have a pump? We are staying at the Pop Century...

Thank you for reading and any suggestions you have!

If it would, then I'd worry about the plane's tires first!
;)

And if something should happen, keep in mind all the golf-cart-type vehicles on the grounds at the resorts. I'm sure if the need arises, a ready source of compressed air will be close at hand.

I've seen people carry on tires on many occasions; they don't want them rolling loose around the hold if they have to come off when the stroller is folded. I really can't answer re: the tire pressure, but I think that it is doubtful that hotels would carry air pumps as a general rule, unless there was a bike concession. You could always take a stick pump and duct tape it to the stroller frame.

A lot of the Baby stores sell small pumps made just for strollers. I know we purchased one for about $10 that has velcro straps to hook onto the stroller. By the way, don't forget to pick up at least 1 additional "tube" that fits the size of your jogger tires. You never know when you might blow a tire.

As for the airline, we've not had a problem with air pressure. We simply remove the tires, put them inside the folded stroller, then use bungee cords to hole the stroller together in place. It's worked well for us. Good luck!

Will you be renting a car while you're there? If so, you could stop off at a gas station quickly to refill the air in the tires if they do indeed deflate.

You shouldn't really have a problem with the air in the tires due to the change in pressure. Remember, you're going to end up back on the ground. So any slight change in volume due to the change in pressure will have "reversed" itself when you descend and land.

You guys are awesome. Love the idea of taking the tires off, putting them inside the folded stroller and bungee cording it together. Also, I will look for that little hand pump.

My hubby still thinks it's not worth it for us to pack it. Mallory will be 7 and TJ 5, but they've never walked like they're going to that week! We'll all be equipt with our Crocs (hopefully, we'll get the Disney ones by then!)....

Thanks so much for all your help!

We flew with our bike trailor stroller, it has back wheels like a bike. They did not deflate on the trip. I hope that helps!

Good question about the tires because it has prompted some good answers.

I hope I can get help with my situation... we are taking a family trip with extended family. Travelling with DD 2, DS 6, and nephew (would that be DN?) 10. We are definitely planning to bring a single stroller for DD, especially for the airport and casual strolls and/or using it just for her in the parks. The issue that we think will come up: will the older boys get tired and new a stroller? Have you let your older children ride in a stroller? My DS will have not problems hopping in as the zoo was too much for him. I'm sure the 10 yo will tire out as well.

Ok, should I take my own double stroller or rent one at the park or from a local company?? I have received info. on a local rental company and the items and prices look comparable or better than the parks. But, should I pay close to the amount for a rental and not bring one on the plane, etc. that I could find on ebay? I hope I didn't lose anyone, but would love the advice as no one in my family is thinking about this as I am!! I need to hear it from the experienced travellers :sunny:

A double jogging stroller could be a lot of work at WDW. Especially for the other guests since it takes up so much room. At one time Disney wasn't allowing any jogging strollers into the parks, let alone a double jogging stroller. They might make you leave your stroller at the front entrance and offer you one of their strollers. But do you really need it for a 5 and 7 yr old? Could the kids just try to walk for a change and the family take a break (swim, nap, whatever back at the resort) instead of forging onward?

Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the tip! I will have to read up on the stroller policy....

I really want to have a backup plan for the 6 y/o. If he gets tired then someone's day is going to be ruined. May just consider renting a stroller at the park, when the tiredness sets in.

Anyone else use a stroller for their school-aged children?

Was thinking of double jogger for DGS 5 and a big boy. Do you have to take of tires to fold them? Also where do you find the info on renting one at disney ? I dont mean the ones in the park We want one to be availaqble from hotel to park or off site things. This renting one off parks sounds interesting.

I was referred to this website: A Baby's Best Friend - I can't post the address yet because I'm still a newbie on this site... but you can search for this company in FL or you can contact me and I will send it to you. The prices look reasonable - similar to the park's rentals and it's been given good reviews. Anyone else use them?

Don't bring the jogger! Crowds are too difficult to menuver through with a jogger, especially a heavy one with big kids in it. Rent one in the parks if you need one. You may find some days you do and some you dont.

We have brought our Jeep Liberty 3-wheeler which has air-filled tires like a jogger and the front wheel swivels. We never had a problem with the wheels deflating on the plane. I agree with the other posters that a double jogger in the parks might be difficult to maneuver and possibly also fit through doorways if it's not narrow enough. If it has a front swivel wheel then I might consider taking it though (and I think WDW would allow it). In the past when they didn't allow joggers, they would trade yours for a rental for free so it would be worth at least trying.

Also, A Baby's Best Friend has a website: www.abbf.com

Check out the weight limits on A Baby's Best Friend website. The strollers they have that will hold the most weight will only accomidate children up to 40-45 pounds.
The WDW rental strollers will hold up to a small 12 yr old.

Although I tend to agree about a 5 and 7 y/o walking (or at least the 7 y/o), I have to disagree that a double jogger will be a problem.

My double Mountain Buggy is less work than ANY other double stroller I've ever had - and all I've had is doubles since my kids are the same age. I can steer it with one hand! The only reason I'm debating on taking it for our upcoming trip is that I would be terribly upset if the airline damaged it.

I think what WDW used to not allow in the parks were the bike trailer/double stroller in one. The hitch on those frequently sticks out far in front of the stroller and could easily be tripped over in a crowd.

That kind plus the jogging strollers that had one single non-swivel wheel in the front.

I just purchased a Baby Jogger City Series Double Stroller. It is 29 inches wide. I figure the doubles at Disney seem to be bigger than that, and that we will have it when the kids fall asleep on the ride home to the hotel, we can bring it up to the room and keep them asleep. Hoping for the best, and hoping it was a good purchase. (it has not arrived yet)

Oooooh, I think you'll love it! We looked at the BJCSD before we stumbled onto a used Mountain Buggy in great condition. They are very nice - front swivel wheels make a world of difference!
