Hi I know this may sound like a really weird question but if you are a Dvc member can you put your points towards a Moderate resort?

Yes, but it costs more points than a Studio at a DVC resort, and after 1/1 there will also be a $95 cash booking fee.

Using points outside of the DVC system (the 8 current resorts) almost always results in a reduction in value. In this case, the value reduction is such that a lesser-quality Moderate costs more than a DVC resort.

Thank you very much for your reply, I must say I am a little surprized that it would cost more I never expected that. Thank you for your help it was greatly appreciated.

I have a business trip to Orlando 10/15-17. I am going on Sunday, a day early, and was looking for a room the night of 10/14. No DVC rooms anywhere (not surprised). So I got a room at POFQ for 18 points. No way I would pay $95 for points use next year, I could get an AP rate of $124 plus tax.

I am dismayed at the $95 fee that we will be required to pay in the above scenario after the first of the year. I cannot believe an administrative fee will be almost equal in price as the night's stay (in addition to the points we are using). Just does not seem right to me...

I think that is exactly the goal with the fee. DVC obviously needs to reduce the number of points it has to try to rent to cover member trades, yet at the same time they don't want to reduce the preceived trading options of the program. thus, the fee was born... The whole personal renting market can be partially to blame for this I'm sorry to say. If all those renters were going to Disney instead of owners, perhaps the situation would be different...
