silly question about borrowing and booking!

Hi!

As someone who has owned for 5 years I feel like I should know the answer to this!

DH and I are planning on going to WDW this upcoming August and want to stay somewhere other than our home resort (Saratoga). But...I do not want to play games with getting the reservation. Can we make the reservation now and call and see what is available at the 7 month mark? If I borrow my 2012 points for 2011 will they return to 2012 IF I need to cancel?

You can make the reservation now at your home resort. At the 7 month window you can try and switch the reservation to another resort.

If you borrow points into your 2011 use year from the 2012 use year, those points cannot be returned into your 2012 use year. Borrowing is a final transaction. You would have to use the points before the end of your 2011 use year (sometime in 2012, depending on the month of your contract).

Banked or borrowed points are not returned to their original use year. If you change reservations at 7 months and it requires less points, if you have any current year points in the reservation, they can return those and you could bank them assuming you are not in the last 4 months of your use year. Same with if you cancel, assuming it's more than 30 days before check-in, any current year points could be banked (if within the banking window), borrowed points would have to be used before the end of your use year.
