Silliest question/comment you've heard about Disney?

Disney cruises just started sailing out of Galveston, Tx and they are booked through Dec 2013. I am planning to go with friends in May 2014, and we have plans to book the cruise this February. My friend was telling her mom this evening and her mom said we are crazy to think about a vacation that early. We told her about how they are booked 14 months out right now so we want to get on that (assuming it will be available) and she said vacations aren't fun unless they are spur of the moment.

Keep in mind, this woman went to Disney two summers ago. She was visiting friends nearby and decided to stay one extra day to drive to Disney. She bought a one day hopper and went to all four parks on a hot, crowded July day, knowing absolutely nothing about Disneyworld at all.

Standing in MK right in front of the castle. The man next to us is waiting for his wife with his son when he revives a call. He quickly hangs up and says "Cone on son, we need to go find your Mother. Largest thing in the park, and she can't find it!" I had a hard time not laughing out loud. Poor guy was so disgruntled!

My friend pulled the old "Wheelchairs go to the front of the line" chestnut on me the other night. I tried to explain, but she insisted that while she was there she personally saw the wheelchairs go to the front and load first on every single ride. People believe what they want, I guess!

While making my way around the world showcase tonight I overheard a 60 (ish) year old man say;

"Disney would be a lot better if they didn't allow kids" then he said, "they should at least have one month without kids". I literally LOL!

Ya that would work well..... wonder what the yearly profits would be without kids and the merchandise we buy them....

I spent 8 days at WDW last month. I took a decade off, after going for 5 straight years ('97-'01). I had a great time for sure. But during my time away, I traveled to Italy, France, Canada, Costa Rica, Hawaii (5 times), and more.

I love Disney World. But I can totally understand other people's opinions. We're no longer "Disney Obsessed". Heck, my partner went to Australia when I went to WDW last month, making mine a solo trip (my 3rd). In 3 weeks, we're going back to Hawaii for our second trip this year. My point is that there is a whole world of amazing adventures, cultural experiences and memories to be made at places that aren't Disney. As amazing, awesome and fun as Walt Disney World is, "THE world" it is not.

I don't agree. I don't go to WDW every year and I enjoy vacationing at many places from the beach to the mountains, to Europe, Scandinavia, and Africa. However, if other people want to go to WDW for 14 days every year, more power to them. Not everyone enjoys the same things and others shouldn't be forced to do other vacations because they'll then be more 'worldly' or cultured. Sorry, that's sorta off-topic...

Oh, &, while standing at the counter waiting for our food at Tortuga Tavern:

The castmember that stands in front of the restaurant to welcome people comes up to the counter to ask a castmember that's preparing the food, "Do we have any jelly besides grape?"

The castmember behind the counter who is busily preparing everyone's lunch gives him a look.

He clarifies, "You know, like for the peanut butter sandwiches. Do we have any jelly flavor besides grape?"

She then gives him a look & says, "It's an Uncrustable. They're all grape."

He nods back at her & says, "That's what I thought, but I told this mother I'd ask anyway."

I laughed out loud.

I know, this mother's poor child may only eat strawberry jelly or be allergic to grape, & she may not know it's an Uncrustable sandwich. Still, the whole conversation between the 2 castmembers tickled my funny bone.

Ha I wish! Would have been great on my last trip. I too heard from my mil who we brought on her first time to rent a wheel chair or ECV so we could get the perks! People are.silly!

In most parks aside from Disney, having a disability will indeed allow you to wait in a much shorter line! Here in the UK you have to have proof of disability, but I don't know one theme park that has disabled guests queuing in the regular line! Some of them use time-cards but you are not expected to queue.

Haha! See, *I* didn't know that Uncrustables came in different flavors! That could very well be why she was asking!

The dialogue between the 2 castmembers complete w/ the eye-rolling from the one just made me giggle... and also made me wander about all the other seemingly random questions I'm sure they're asked.

Confession time: I've lived in Orlando my whole life (ok, Winter Park, Oviedo, and unincorporated east Orlando, all of which I call Orlando, because explaining is just too much trouble) and I always called the MK Disney. *Ducks for cover!*. Because, for the first years of my life, that's all there was. And then there was EPCOT. Woo HOO. That was extremely un-awesome for a kid in the 80s and 90s. So, MK was Disney. And sometimes I still say that, although my KIDS now correct me . They want to be sure to go to the park of their choice (we have APs). And sometimes they ASK to go to EPCOT! How things have changed!

And we call Spaceship Earth the golf ball. And I still say the WedWay people mover. And I even call DHS MGM sometimes. Worst of all, sometimes I find myself thinking, "Why cant I find Mr. Toad's Wild Ride on the map?" And seriously, WHAT happened to the Skyway?

I'm a lost cause! I'm a disgrace to AP holders everywhere!

Not quite sure what you don't agree with, or what you're talking about. But since you quoted my post, I assume you intended to make a point. I think I was pretty clear in my point.

Thank goodness we brought a lot of snacks for my picky almost vegetarian kid, because she had a hard time eating anything that first trip! Yes, she's still picky and mostly a vegetarian, at age 7, except for mickey mouse nuggets- which they DON'T sell at wdw!:-O

I sympathize with them. Uncrustables taste horrible! It's a bland sandwich, and oh the humanity: no crusts?! Why oh why?

Seriously, I'd be disgusted, too. But then, I'd realize they didn't have "real" sandwiches on the menu.

Yea i can see the no crusts. The crust on a PB&J is the best part.

Rent a wheelchair so you can get on all the rides with no line!!

I find this one funny! My brother is in a wheelchair all of the time but can transfer to a ride.. Anyway I have found in the multiple trips I have been with him we ended up waiting longer for most of the rides because you have to go through a separate door, wait in a holding area. Wait till they can strop a ride etc. etc. to be honest with you, you miss a lot of the little details in most of the queues because of this.. People are silly they see you in the holding area and assume you have not been waiting. :\

I think that a lot of people have finally learned the truth about people in ECVs and wheelchairs- that they don't get FOTL privileges and that in fact they often wait longer. (And I really hate that I miss a lot of the most interesting parts of some of the queues.) Raging and virulent anti-wheelchair and ECV threads used to be fairly commonplace here. Fortunately these seem to have pretty much disappeared in recent months. At least the Diser's seem to have learned the facts about wheelchair users in the parks.

When I was planning my honeymoon, I got a few of the 'you can use the same tickets for WDW and Universal' comments from my coworkers. I gently corrected them.

Now that we are planning our next trip which will be my daughter's first, I've been getting a lot of the 'she's too young for Disney' comments from people. She's going to be turning 5 during our trip which I think will be a great age to experience the magic.

DH and I offered to go at the same time as his brother, wife and two kids where I would plan the trip. But they were at the prices I was guestimating at (3 or 4K for 6 days - which would be on site, dining plan, park tickets, gas and spending money). They are now planning on going a year after us, in 2014. I think I might get my SIL a copy of the unofficial guide for Christmas
