Silk Flowers

I have been pondering the idea of doing silk floral arrangements/bouquets for weddings, but I have no idea how brides really feel about the idea of silks. I recently completed my floral training and am trying to figure out a way to put it to use.

Any thoughts on silks? Would you ever consider such a thing? I'd appreciate your thoughts on the subject.

I love silk flowers. I'm using silk for all of the bouquets/bouts. The only real floral I will be using are the aisle decor/table arrangements (the same..transporting) and the ceremony swag I'm making all of mine myself, but I've heard a lot of great responses from family and friends when they see the quality and beauty of the silk I have chosen. PLUS, instead of it costing me $1000+ for the bouquets/bouts. I'm only spening $250!!!

I think people either like silk flowers or they don't like them. I do know that quite a bit of brides use them for many uses in their weddings. So if you are thinking of starting a business or something it would be one that is well received.

i'm doing all silk as df has hay fever and we are from the uk so it will be nice to bring them home with us

Peggy, I just know your arrangements would be beautiful, and would have a "Disney" touch!!

From what I've seen here, it seems like the UK brides really consider silk as an option so they can take their bouquet home with them (not that US brides don't consider that option too).

I also think a lot of brides have some initial concerns about silk and making sure it looks real, etc. Some brides have made their own (I made my own headpiece from silks) and some have done "crystal bouquets" as well and those are really beautiful.

I love the idea of silk flowers -- to me, spending money on things that die is kinda silly or, maybe not "silly" but just not practical for me. All of my bouquets that aren't disney provided with our package are going to be silk... I think a business catering to silk customers would definitely be profitable!! My mom makes silk arrangements and you could certainly sell them to other customers (like offices, etc - where keeping live plants just isn't practical)

I am doing silk for my bouquet, bridesmaid bouquet, 4 button holes, 2 roses for rose cermony. I'm doing real flowergirl petals. I've seen pictures of the silk flowers and they look really real until you get get really close up. I'm normally a real flower person, but after seeing how real they looked and the fact i wanted the flowers for my UK reception my mind was made up.

I used silk for my wedding, and am thinking of using Silk for the VR on DCL, simply because i would like to keep the flowers and am concerned about customs not allowing the flowers off the ship.

I think with silk flowers it really depends on the quality. We had fresh for our wedding and I love fresh flowers. i will tell you that for our portraits in front of the castle we had the silk flowers and they were amazing. You can't tell the difference really in the photos except the silk flowers were a larger arragnement.

I used silk flowers as I'm from the UK and wanted to bring them back for my home reception this weekend.b They were great! I used a locasl florist and she was able to do exactly what I was after. The only down side was them getting a bit squished when I packed them but they can easily be bended back in to place. They also saved those all important pennies. So much cheaper than using fresh.

Thank you all for your input! While I love fresh flowers, I think the silks that are available now are amazing. The price difference and their long shelf life make them a really great alternative.

Now, I need to play for awhile to see what I can come up with.

I actually used a UK florist for my silks rather than go for Disney floral. The florist added them for me.

I am actually using artificial flowers as well. I wanted calla lillies but at $8.00 per stem there was no way that I was going to be able to afford it . I went to walmart of all places to see what I could find. I found some that I loved. They were still $4 per stem...which is much better than $8. I actually contacted the manufacturer *teters* and was able to buy them wholesale for $1 per stem. I am super cheap and was very excited. The company makes all different kinds of flowers and they are really good quality as well. I just thought I would throw out my little find in hopes to help out the other brides-to-be

I used silk for mine. Having my bouquet preserved was not in my budget, so I just made my own bouquet, and used the one that came with the wedding for my daughter's bridesmaid bouquet.

I bought a pewter Tussy Mussy for it so that I could display it once we got home. Here is a picture of it, not great, but you get the point. My daughter's tussy mussy from Disney was plastic and extremely cheap looking, I think I would have been very disappointed if that had been mine!

I actually wanted to do silk for my boquet because I wanted to be able to keep them forever without pressing them or drying them out. However, the florist I am using doesn't do silk. So I think it is a good idea.

One thing about the Hydrangeas. They don't take being out of water well. I had those for my bridesmaids with roses and by the end of the day the hydrangeas were a little worse for wear. Talk with Laura about ways to keep them fresher looking. The other thing about those is that they are pretty pricey.

exactly!! Nothing will wilt on my bouquet! And my hydrangea stems were 5.99/each (included 3 HUGE bunches each stem) and I got 40% off of that! (YAY for combining coupons/deals!!) So not expensive at all
