Hi DISers!

I am leaving this Wed. for DL with DH for our 12th anniversary sans kids :cool1: and of course I have a couple last minute ?'s.

First, do they still do silhouettes somewhere on Main St? If so, where is it located and will they do DH & I together in a silhouette? How much does it cost?

Second, I was wondering if anyone had any good detailed pics of where
to stand "in the hub" for good RDCT fireworks viewing & how soon do we need to stake out these spots? I am a visual person & haven't been to DL for a couple of years!

TIA!
Jenn

yes, they do silhouettes on main street...forgot the name of the place, but we got ours done on main street. the store/shop is on the left hand side of main street as you are walking towards the castle.

as for fireworks, i think 2 (maybe even 3) hours before showtime should allow you a decent view!

hope this helps! :)

Thanks northshoremama! So 2-3 hours for good fireworks viewing, huh? Any secret spots where we get a good view and only wait an hour or so? Any pics???

Silhouettes are on the right side as you walk in about 2/3 of the way down. Next to the Crystal Shop. Last I saw about $9 but that was a year ago.

For Fireworks. An hour will probably give you time to find a good spot when it's just two of you. I prefer watching from the 9 to 12 position if the hub is a clock with the castle at 12. Or the 1 oclock spot. The key is to be able to see the front of the Castle and the Matterhorn. So be careful about spots with light towers/speakers or trees blocking your view.

2nd this as the correct spot for Silhouettes. We had individual ones done for $9 a piece in Dec 2010. They had couples ones displayed on the wall so I would assume they do them.

Just got our 2 kids silhouettes done for mother's day on Friday (5/6). It was indeed $9 each, and they put them on the same card. It took her maybe 30 seconds to cut each one. Amazing!

Regarding the fireworks, we've walked up about 10 minutes before they started and gotten a good view (could certainly see Tinkerbell and hear the music). We were on the tomorrowland side of the hub standing on the sidewalk in front of the rockets. It shouldn't be too busy this weekend, but I've thought that before and been wrong!

It's called the Silhouette Studio. Just a few shops before the PP store on the corner.

First time I got DD's silhouette done I asked the artist to please date it. She signed it and dated it. A few years later I asked for the same thing. When I got home I realized that it was the same artist. ;)So, from then on I ask for the same artist. I now have 3 or 4 silhouettes of DD11, all signed by Sylvia (she's been there a really long time) and all dated. I try to get them done about every 2 years of so.

Since we have AP it's not too hard to get the same artist. When it's getting time to get another one done I ask in the store when Sylvia will be working (and I explain why). Then I will come back when she's there. She does a wonderful job and it literally takes about a minute!

They will do 2 in one. I think they'll even do more. Sorry, I don't know the cost for 2 people.

That's really cool it's still $9. Park tickets have surely gone up over two years, but the silhouettes still the same. :)

2-3 hours seems excessive. If you really want the best viewing, try to get in the area where the vehicle is just to the right of the top of the circle in this Google Maps link. Anywhere from there down to the curb should be good with few trees obstructing the view. It's tough to find a "perfect" location because of all the trees and light towers, lampposts, etc. If you get there really super extra early, you might be able to stake out a bench but wait until they rope off the reserved area or you might have to move.

FWIW, I wouldn't dedicate hours and hours to staking out the best possible viewing location unless the whole point of the trip is to see the fireworks. They're neat but you can get a "good enough" view from many areas without any waiting. As you're walking around, keep an eye out for places where you have a clear view of the castle and Matterhorn. The audio plays over speakers throughout much of the park.

ooops!!!! yes, i did mean RIGHT hand side (for the silhouette place). guess i can't tell my left from my right this morning. i'm glad you guys caught that!!

We have had the silhouettes done of our daughter several times over the years, we love them. :yay:

There are people that wait 3+ hours while sitting on the benches in front of SB castle. You can still show up one hour until the fireworks and be able to get a front row spot in front. But that will be on the street and mostly will be really crowded. But I would say around 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get a street front view. The curbs are mostly around 2-3 hours wait. As skiingfast said that the right side of the Hub is a decent spot if you can't get a dead center spot. Going on the left side of the Hub is the best way to get from the Hub to the 2nd show of F! if you are planning on seeing it. But the view can be obstruct with the trees blocking from Carnation Plaza Gardens.

I HIGHLY recommend that you also get the frame that goes with the Sillouhette. Trying to mat and frame it outside Disney is VERY expensive and the Disney ones are the absolute perfect size.

I think the frames are like another $10 or so.....very inexpensive for something that fits!

I also highly recommend Sylvia....check with them on when she's working...she's there 5 or 6 days a week, so it shouldn't be hard to catch her. While the others are good...she's the best and a side by side comparison leaves no doubt (and if you're going to come back next year and do it all again, you'll be much happier knowing Sylvia did them all!)

We just got back this weekend and the crowds were quite low, yipee! Since OP says they're going tomorrow, I'll guess the crowds will still be pretty low for them, and have to agree that an hour before fireworks should be plenty of time to find a nice place to stand. 2-3 hours may be necessary for summer crowds or something, but not right now.
