My 5 year old DS want to do the Jedi Training Academy during spring break (early March). I would like to hear from those who have signed up for it. Where exactly is the sign up location? How crazy is sign up at rope drop? Are there any show times that might be better than others? Do all the kids who sign up get to fight Darth Vader? Thanks for the responses.

Here's some standard info regarding JTA:

If you are staying at an onsite resort, plan on going to DHS on an EMH morning and as soon as the gates open, head directly to JTA sign-ups with your child. Signing up during EMH is a hidden perk for onsite resort guests!

If you aren't staying onsite, go on a non-EMH morning and get to the gates at least 45 minutes before park opening.

Sign-ups are in the Sounds Dangerous/ABC Sound Studio building. The CM will ask your child some questions and will assign him a session which fits into your FP and Dining schedule. Your child will need to report back approximately 30 minutes before his session.

Try to sign up for a morning session. Because of the weather, JTA is often canceled in the afternoons. If the session does get canceled, a brief meet and greet with Vader and Stormtroopers will take place.

From wdwent.com:
20-minute shows
9:20, 10:10, 11:00 & 11:50am, 12:35, 1:05, 1:50, 2:40, 3:25, 4:10, 4:40, 5:30, 6:20, 7:10* & 8:00pm*
*Sunday & Saturday only
Space is limited, and participants (ages 4-12) must be present to register. Please see a Cast Member at the ABC Sound Studio early in the day to make same-day reservations.

We did Jedi Training Academy during Star Wars Weekend, so it may have been a little more nuts than normal.... But we went straight to sign-ups at rope drop, it was by the 50's Prime Time Diner I can't remember exactly, but a CM helped point out the direction after we went the long way of coarse. lol. The line was insane! We probably waited at least an hour. We signed up for the middle of the day, I'm not sure anytime is better than others, but keep in mind the academy is in the sun and it's hot while you watch! Your child will battle Darth Vader or Darth Maul, just depends on which line the CM places him/her. Both are AWESOME! It was really a fun experience and worth the wait to be put on the list. When you check in your child and they dismiss the parents, go to where the academy is and hold your spot, or you will be in the back, and watching your kiddo is something you don't want to miss. It's a pretty cool experience!

Are there any show times that might be better than others?

The best times are the ones that fir your schedule the best. if you have your FP+ for scheduled in the morning before lunch then you want a show after lunch. if you're FP+ start at 11 am, you want an early show.

My suggestion (if possible) is to have one person get to the park early...like 8 am early to make sure they are one of the first or second people at a Mickey Reader. Have the rest of the group get to the park about 8:35 and have 1 person bring you the little one when they get there and the rest gets in the back of the line for rope drop entry. Whoever got there early takes the kid to registration and you should be one of the first 5-10 people (assuming you are first or 2nd at one of the Mickey Readers) and can likely get any show time you want.
