How strict is the dress code at the "signature" restaurants (not V&A's)?

Here's my situation...

We are departing GR for Orlando on a non-stop flight at 12:30pm. Not too bad, except that I do not get home from work (a 14-hour shift) until 5am at the earliest. This means that I will be working on a max of about 5 hours of sleep....assuming I'm not "too excited to sleep!":lmao:. I tend to get quite anxious when I fly and it is only a 2.5 hour flight so I know that I will not get any substantial sleep on the plane. We're taking DME to AKV, checking in and heading straight to DHS to catch the 8pm showing of Fantasmic. I'm hoping to make it back to AKV to have a 9:45pm seating at Jiko. Due to the timeline involved, I do not foresee any time to change attire from plane to park to Jiko. We're staying at Kidani so it would not be a "quick" trip up to the room. If I opt for a polo shirt and knee-length khaki shorts, will that be acceptable?

Here is Disney's signature "dress code:"

No swimwear
No torn clothing or cutoff shorts
No hats or tank tops for men
No tee shirts with "offensive" slogans or graphics

If the shorts aren't cutoffs, you will not be in "violation" of the above. You will get various opinions on what other guests think should be worn to signature restaurants and even opinions on whether or not it is proper to go straight from parks to signature restaurants in resorts, but the above is what Disney itself says - and even then they don't always enforce it.

I suspect you'll feel comfortable at Jiko wearing a collared short-sleeved shirt and nice khaki shorts. I wore essentially that same outfit when I ate there with my girlfriend last spring. It seems everybody has a different opinion about what constitutes "appropriate" attire at the signature restaurants, but I think it's unrealistic to expect vacationers to dress formally for most Disney meals, with Victoria & Albert's serving as the notable exception. I do not condone the increasingly common practice of simply wearing park clothes to nice dinners, and I think the Cast Members generally could do a better job of enforcing the already-lenient dress code. But in your situation, it sounds like you're cognizant of the dress code and plan to comply with it.

Have fun!

Now that I think about it, perhaps it will be chilly enough that I can wear my khaki slacks. I am not a dress person, mainly because I have such horrible plantar fasciitis it is hard to find appropriate footwear. I have some MaryJane Shape-Ups that look OK with my khakis and I usually wear my ECCO sandals with my shorts.

I do not want to look out of place and I agree that Jiko is a place where "park attire" is not appropriate so I want to do the best I can to dress properly.

Thanks for all the info.

Per TDC Nala's post, you'll notice that footwear isn't even mentioned as part of the suggested dress guidelines.
You will be just fine in what you propose to wear.
