Signature dining wow.

Signatures are traditiaonally ala carte so adding a salad would seem off for that type of dining, IMHO. I have never done any upscale dining that included any sides or "extras".

Wow! I feel ilke some of the responses were very rude and un-Disney like. If we can not chat happily about the Happiest Place on Earth maybe we shouldn't talk at all.
I am sure all of us have a POV about some aspect of Disney we think could be better so there is no need to get hostile when we don't agree. There was not a question about the difference between deluxe and regular DP so I don't think Fischa was looking for a tutorial.:confused3

No she said a side salad should be included and was told that if she wanted that side salad she would have gotten it if she had went with the DxDDP. Those of us that want the appetizers know the only way to get them is to upgrade to the DxDDP or pay for them OOP. Why should Disney offer them when people are willing to pay for them? If side salads came with the meal, why would anyone bother to upgrade to the DxDDP?

It's not on the DDP of course, but for my last trip I had an ADR at Blue Zoo that I canceled, when I read on here that all you get is a steak and any sides (even a potato) is extra. For that price I expected at least one side, if not a salad too. When I found all I would get is a steak with nothing else with it, it was my decision to either not go or pay OOP for both a potato and a salad. On principle alone, I chose to cancel. There are too many great steakhouses around here where I can get a better steak and it comes with two sides plus a salad.

Have to say I TOTALLY agree with you on this!

The OP is welcome to express their opinion that the regular dining plan should include an appetizer or salad at signatures.

I know that dining plan users and those who once used the dining plan (and don't anymore) have all kinds of ideas about how the plans could be better. Being upset at Disney for structuring the plans the way they are structured isn't totally productive at this point though unless one is willing to let Disney know why they are upset. Obviously the OP is not happy, in fact the OP is pretty ticked off, which kind of starts out that this will not be a happy thread.

Any opinions can be presented as long as the posting guidelines are not breached. I did delete two posts that came close to guideline breaches, the others don't.

Personally I think that nothing will be added to the dining plans at this point, unless it is accompanied by a price increase.

Im really sorry but I didnt think that the Op seemed "ticked off" or "upset" I saw it as just a post on what they thought of the DDP on the trip and how they thought that for the price or use of 2 credits how it would be better if it included the App,Not all people want the deluxe plan all of the time as they may not want 3 sit downmeals a day and App's with each meal even though that plan is available I do think that some just think that for the use of 2 credits to be more worth while it would be nice if it included a little extra!

Im 5ft and a size 4 I could only just eat Half my entree and a dessert if im lucky so it doesnt matter to me either way and My Dh who is 6ft 1 only eats entree and dessert "plus finish mine sometimes":rotfl: If we wanted extra we would pay OOP but never have had to yet.

I just wanted to post as I did not see anything TICKED OFF about the posts think they was just trying to discuss their points on the dining :thumbsup2

I'm going to close this if it becomes an argument or about the nature of the posts on this board. Personally I think it is obvious from the tone of the OP's first post that they are NOT happy about the failure of DDP to include a salad and are in fact unhappy enough to post about it. Which is fine, they can be unhappy on the boards about whatever they want but subsequent posters are also free to point out the alternatives or disagree with the OP as long as they do not violate posting guidelines.

Thanks! Yes you nailed it. Not a big deal and for people posting that I should have ordered the Deluxe plan they are kind of missing the point. I'm not saying anyone should be including apps at EVERY restaurant. That's what the Deluxe plan is for. My suggestion (I think we're allowed to make them right???) is that at SIGNATURE restaurants it would be nice, given that it's 2 credits in a nice often romantic setting, that they do something to make it a more complete meal such as include a small side salad.

People can be very touch in defending Disney to the point where it's almost impossible to suggest an alternative. It's unfortunate but some people on the thread seem to understand.

I do agree that two TS credits is a lot to use for a signature when you only receive an entree and dessert...but I would also expect if they begin to include an appetizer for the regular DDP at a Signature, then they would have to up the ante for those of us using the DxDP to include something extra as well...because both use 2 TS credits but DxDP is paying more in the long run...

Perhaps the trade off could be on DDP you could include an appetizer at a signature and on the DxDP you could include an alcoholic or specialty drink with your meal (because who could turn down a nice glass of wine with a romantic meal!!)

Just a thought...One thing I'd love to see changed is them offering a dining plan that allows 3 meals per day (like the Premium and Platinum Plans) without all the tours. Our kids are small still so the tours are not beneficial to us.

Personally I don't think it's horrible that they don't include a salad which is why I am not getting on the bandwagon. They DO have the option of the deluxe plan for those who want an appetizer. You can suggest alternatives all you want but you can't expect everyone to agree with you that the alternative is needed. It also can't be expected that only people who agree will post, because disagreeing is not against board guidelines.

As for the previous post, the Deluxe Dining Plan is pretty much the same as the Premium or Platinum without the tours, three meal credits per night, unless what you are going for is to have the signature restaurants count as one credit rather than two.

Sorry I should have clarified...yes I did mean to have the signatures count as one credit. But we know we are in the minority as most people feel the DxDP is already too much food so that's why we just pay OOP for some of our extra meals. We enjoy taking the breaks during the day to relax and sit down to a nice meal but everyone has their own touring style.

The regular DDP works best for me. On our last trip, I considered getting the DeLuxe Plan because on the previous trip I had sometimes wished I could have ordered just an appetizer instead of an entree, but felt I should just stick to the plan. After looking at all the menus and places I might want an App and figuring the cost to upgrade to Deluxe, I kept the DDP with a mental note that if I ever wanted anything extra I WOULD get it and pay OOP. Plus I added a couple of extra OOP TS not included on the plan.
There were only a few places that I DID want an App, which I got. I still ended up paying a lot less than if I had upgraded to DeLuxe.
I enjoyed my meals more I believe, and it worked for me because:
1) I really didn't want an App every time
2) The extra table services I chose were not really that expensive
3)To get full value on the DeLuxe Plan I think most of the meals would need to be TS and, we don't like more than one per day.
There are quite a few different ways to use the DDP and my DH likes the convenience of the card at QS and Snack locations which he prefers, so I guess we'll keep getting it, especially when it's free!

Disney already did tweak the reg DDP based on customer comments. The reg plan used to include an appetizer, but folks complained that it was too much food.

Right....

that's one way to go with it.
But if you look at it: they reduced their overhead (less food with no appetizers), increased their take (i believe the plan was "reduced" approximately 2 dollars...which is far less than what the appetizers cost would be out of pocket...and hence began collecting more out of pocket for those that do like appetizers), and eliminated a guaranteed 18% gratuity (and most of the orignial dining plan ordered right to left - though they would deny it) from the waiters athat DISNEY had paid that they then passed on - not guaranteed - to the consumer....

I'm sure that they legitimately had complaints about the amount of food...but that is about as thinly veiled an excuse as when an athlete explains why he got caught on a steroid test...aka nobody should buy it.

I am admittedly not a frequent upscale diner. At the few more expensive restaurants I have eaten at...I remember only bread being included. I recall paying even paying extra for sides (like potato) at a fancier steakhouse. Heck even Outback (if I remember right) charges an upcharge to exchange one of your sides for a salad.

Do I wish I could get more for the same price? Yes! I just don't see Disney doing that unless they stop making a profit.

Yep.

Those of us who are diabetics and don't drink alcohol for any reason.:rotfl::rotfl: No way would I be interested in a meal plan that included alcohol. I have nothing against alcohol, I just can't drink it very often and my mom can't touch it. My husband would love it though.

I do agree that I wished the DDP allowed three meals/day. Both me and my mom are diabetics and my husband is borderline. With her four times a day insulin my mom absolutely must eat three meals/day. She doesn't need all three courses the DxDDP offers, but hates to waste one of the credits on a CS meals either (or not get everything she thinks she's entitled to at a TS meal either).:rotfl:

Let me start with the positive. I'm a foodie and get to NYC and Philly pretty often for some world class dining. Was not expecting much from Disney but ate at Narcossees last night and found it to be exceptional.

I find this answer amazing, I hear from so many people how the Signature Restaurant’s don't measure up to the big city places. Nice to hear that someone thinks they are very good. We live in a small, 25,000+, city and have been very spoiled by the food at the signature places in Disney World and Disneyland.

As a bit of a food snob who has done a fair amount of NYC area dining....
I'll say that the signature restaurants at Disney are surprisingly good.
Narcoose's isn't going to compare to Le Bernadin. But they are simply different classes of restaurants.
I do think Disney signature restaurants are comparable to what you will find in NYC restaurants at comparable price points and quality, with Disney pricing being perhaps slightly more. In other words, a $45 signature entree will be of similar quality to what you will find at good NYC restaurant for $35-40.

Where you can't compare, is the 1-credit basic restaurants. The 1-credit restaurants at Disney range from mediocre to good. (None are great, but generally not horrible either). You'll find superior "casual" restaurants at similar price points in major cities, than 1-credit Disney restaurants. Largely because major cities produce really cheap, really high quality ethnic dining.
