Sign up for credit cards to get points to use on vacation?

Anyone ever signed up for a hotel chain's credit card to get the bonus points?

I got an offer from Priority Club for 80,000 bonus points after first purchase on their credit card. I thought may be I could get it and then use those points to cover 3 or 4 nights for a hotel in Orlando. Major budget saver or silly??? Any thoughts/input???

Make sure you read the fine print. I once signed up for an airline card to get a flight. The deal was you got 15,000 to sign up and another 10,000 for transferring a balance which should have been enough for a free flight. Only problem was that when I tried to redeem my miles there were so many restrictions that I couldn't get it to work. They did offer $99.00 companion tickets that didn't have restrictions so it wasn't a total loss, but it was a big waste of my time.
