My oldest DS (10 y.o., 5th grader) came home from school today and asked me the meaning of a certain word, you know the "one" that rhymes with the word hoe (as in digging utensil). Sigh... Anyway, you get the idea.
I asked him where he heard this word. He heard some girls saying "it" as he walked to the car loop area. We discussed it calmly and I told him that he isn't to repeat this word again. I'm glad that he came to me about this and I wouldn't want it any other way.
My husband and I really watch what we say around the kids, we don't even say **it around them. I realize that kids will learn all kinds of things at school and from friends. I know that things will get "more interesting" as he gets older, but I don't have to like it.
I assume the girls thought they were cool by using these words, who knows? Does it have to be this degrading when they are so young?
