Blasted computer! I had a program freeze on me last night. When I finished working, I restarted the PC and had an error about a .dll file. Three times I rebooted until it seemed like it was up and running properly again. When I went to bed the PC was working, at least it was when I last signed on to it. DH came home from work, logged in and was immediately taken to System Recovery. This morning it was still in the recovery process. Not a pretty sight.

DH spent the day reinstalling programs and Windows updates. One of the most critical programs, NAV, is a problem and not yet installed. I renewed our subscription online last year. I don't have a product key or any proof other than my checking account statement (I used my Visa debit card to purchase) that it existed. I've emailed their techincal support, as well as a post on the DIS tech support board, and await a response as to what I'm supposed to do. I have more than a month left on the current subscription.

My chore for the evening is to set up Outlook Express, all over again. I had many folders to organize my messages, all of them gone. I just finished refiling all of todays new mail. Plus I need to recreate my favoties menu and find the freeware that needs to be download again.

Oh the thought of recreating files I had in Excel and Word. Yikes! I hope the Microsoft Office CD around here to install those programs.

It's going to be a long night, and probably day for DH tomorrow. At least Internet Explorer is up and running. :teeth:

Just a hug to you for all this pain. DH lost our hard drive in February trying to install turbotax. We had to reinstall windows, aol, and everything else. The major pain was I lost 250 songs I had downloaded. I had recorded most of them but not all.

I like the choice of car you have picked out for your next car. I want a VIBE GT but it is a bit to small to fit the wife and myself and 3 kids in but I would still love to have one.

Unfortunately, the next car is at least a year away from purchase. But I can dream! I'm thinking about going for a test drive. :teeth:

Take the car out and put it through it's paces just to make sure it will perform how you want it to hehehe.

We jsut had to send our second comouter back to HP for a new hard drive...system recovery wouldn't work and the stupid thing is only 3 months old! We had some corupt file that even after doing the SR still wouldn't work. After nmiuch fighting with Compaq they picked up the computer and after testing had to put a new hard drive in. I lost everything....and we jsut got the computer back yesterday and I don't even want to start it up. Luckily we have this computer and I use this one all the time anyhow.

That is why I will never own an HP/Compaq or any other name brand system.

Sorry to hear Nancy. A friend of mine bought an HP earlier in the year and had to have her hard-drive replaced too. She may have sent a static charge through the system without realizing she had. The PC was only 3 months old at the time.

Ours is an HP too and DH was at a loss when he couldn't figure out how to access anything we had stored. I told him to call HP for help, and they couldn't help remotely to find our missing driver so he had to re-write it all. At least he's had some experience doing it. Our old Gateway left us down on occasion (it needed new batteries  )
