I do understand what you're saying, and maybe every single person on that board did make fun of you or spread lies, I don't know, but I do think trying to put it behind you is best, keep trying to do that and know that if they are making up things about you that says more about them than it does about you.

Ironic that this has turned into exactly what the OP complained about. A long thread with banter back and forth. I just wonder why people get so upset. It is just a board with unknown people posting. If I do not like what they say I just laugh it off. I do not know how long ago it was not a place where people did not ridicule but I have been a memeber since 2003 and I remember distinctly being flamed on my very first post because I said in essence Disney was out to get people's money. Personally, I find the board much less nasty now than it was 5 years ago so I guess I am asking when were the good old days? I did not read the whole thread so if I missed something forgive me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the above post isn't about the DIS, it's about another board. The board that keeps getting mentioned but is supposed to be off limits to all DIS users.

Yes, I think things have changed. The board has slowed way down for starters. I hate the slow sluggish pace that is now the CB

I do miss some of the good debates that went on. Sure, some people got nasty, but I never thought to take it personally. It is really easy to write words while hidden behind a screen name and while some took advantage and vented their anger at the world, in general things could get respectfully heated. IMO that is the best type of debate. I also miss the rapid fire discussions that used to go on.

I don't know. I did read the sticky about the "recent bannings" and the "hostile website". It is my understanding that if you visit there, you will be banned. We have 2 posters here, Disfav and CN proudly dragging all that crap from THERE, over HERE.

"Discussing" posts isn't the word for it. Ridiculing, criticizing and badmouthing posters who post on the DIS CB and BB is a more apt phrase. Some try to spin it as harmless, but it's not harmless to the people it's being done to. Hence the bannings, hence the explanation.

Like I said before, these things are cyclical. The DIS will be back to normal probably around the time the kids go back to school.

After I read this, I went back to read the explanation from the webmasters about the bannings. I just wanted to refresh my memory of what I understood the whole thing to be about.

If I may ask you a question, how do you know what they are talking about? According to the explanation, "sideline spectators" can be banned also. Are you reading over there but not posting? I just don't understand how you can report how they are posting these horrible things unless you are reading over there too. Isn't that technically against what was stated in the explanation?

It has changed, but I am not sure what can be done. Sadly I feel that it is part of the ebb and flow of boards.

I think that there has been a lot of hurt on the DIS for a number of years now. My theory - take it or leave it - is that once upon a time we all had a single person upon whom to heap our anger and disgust and when he was banned, well, all that anger and disgust just kind of oozed out all over.

I know that I personally watch what I post because I don't feel like being ridiculed or dogpiled upon.

Every once in a while I take a chance but usually I just hide under my rock although I do lurk because there are people here that I care about and I try and keep up with their goings-on.

I don't foresee a time where I will ever feel as free to post as I have in the past.

I suppose that a new group of people will come along eventually and they won't carry the baggage that we oldtimers do and perhaps it will be fun for them in the way it was for me.

This is what I was trying to say. Except for your second paragraph--I'm thinking "one person" was your friend and mine ____. And that, iIdisagree with, if I am guessing right. He and I went round and round but it was a love/hate relationship for sure. He was very kind to me off the board and not all bad on the board.

Personally, I think it is the same bully type stuff that goes on in school (and I know being a teacher you are very familiar with that!). But you know what? A public board, as we have all read here sets you up for comments about what you say and post. I think they're are countless boards that are offshoots of the DIS AND the other board where people take what is said on the other board and rip them apart too. It just goes on and on, my friend...

BTW, please PM me and let me know how your dad is doing. I think of him often.

I was flamed with my first post here also! It was so shocking to me. my first message board, my first post and ~~flames~~. But yeah, back in 2001 is what I mean when I say, the good ol' days, The mods were kept busy back then but people weren't nearly so angry as they are today.

I am not as active as many on the CB, but I read a lot of threads. The CB as it was, offered many different things, people of many backgrounds and perspectives, I can honestly say my opinion changed on quite a few topics due to some of the "debates" (for lack of a better word) in threads - for the better.

I miss it.

But then CR could have also been Carly Roach, who is a different DIS member. . .although, there was intense speculation at one time that one CR was the other CR, because they both use the same initials in their screenname and are both avid DIS supporters. The hunt to prove that the two CRs were indeed the same one CR made the hunt to find the Watergate informant (whose name I can't type, lest it gets me points) look like amateur hour.

Last I heard, it was finally proven the two CRs are indeed two different CRs as they both couldn't be in the same place at the same time. . . Well, they could, but they'd have to break a lot of laws in the space/time continuum.
