*sigh* things have changed so much around here

And the flip side to this is that not all of the banned people were evil incarnate like some people seem to be implying all over the CB, and this thread in particular.

I'd say you have a point, there. Those things were said about people who have no ability to defend themselves. Kind of like people were accusing those on the other board of doing.

Again, I disagree with this. They are not bringing the stuff here from there. Not now. They are saying they were racked over the coals on that site and so to remind people that every banned person from here was not innocent. That isn't saying everyone, but several. Some just chose to "ban" themselves from here but going out defending their friends and getting themselves banned. the DIS really didn't "ban" all those people--they chose to be banned. And I can feel for them. I remember when Dan was let go from moderating the CB. I was hopping mad and could have easily gotten myself banned But, I chose not to.

When CR's DH and son was discussed, it had to infuriate her. Anyone who thought that was OK is sick. Anyone who thinks they are so perfect or beautiful in their looks to comment on a poster's photo is too. If you must pick apart what people are saying, have at it but leave their looks and their families out it. Chances are, your own roots are showing!
how exactly did they choose to be banned?:confused3

I've never said that everyone who got banned was a horrible person, and in fact I've spoken to some of the banned since the bannings. I still stand by my previous statement that anyone who thinks they were banned unfairly should just e-mail the admin, and maybe the could get reinstated.

But I am entitled to my opinion as much as anyone else is, and I'm not going to keep my mouth shut just because some people disagree with me.

You are correct...you are entitled to your opinion and you shouldn't have to keep your mouth shut. That is the whole point....those who were banned not only had their mouths shut for them, but it was for things they did not even post on this board. Some of them were banned simply for visiting/reading another board.

And just as others have previously stated, many have emailed the admin and never received a response.
Also would you really want to return to a site that banned you for simply mentioning a food product, lyrics to a song or even asking a simple question about what was going on?

OK--1st off I never said you said it, just that there were many people saying it. I only quoted your post, I did not single you out as saying that.

2nd--Many people DID email the admins, and were summarily ignored, multiple times. Yes, some were let back, but many others were simply ignored.

I felt sure someone would ask this...

When the moderators or whoever bans is on a banning spree (which is exactly what we witnessed), there is always someone's friend who got banned and whether it was right or not, it upsets people (friends or not, sometimes it is just the principle). Then, the posters who did not get banned but choose to post things that they know will get them banned, do it anyway. In turn, sure enough, they got banned also.

But they knew they'd be banned before they hit "reply". Few of those people were actually shocked. Some were tempting fate, some were doing it in support of their friends, some were just plain ol' POed.

Surely you saw many, many people get on here and commit "dis-suicide"??!! There were many. And many got by with a post or two and then wondered "why am I still there? why am I not banned??" so, they'd try it again, posting something that they knew was gonna tick off the banners. And then they were banned and then they were victims? :lmao: I think not. Were some supportive friends? Yes!! ::yes:: But some were just tempting the mods to be banned and then acted like victims because of it. :faint:

There were several posters who were banned that I do not understand why they were banned. I miss them here. But no one I was willing to get myself banned for. We all make choices.

thanks for the explanation, I thought you meant everyone who was banned chose to be.

Whatever people may think about the other site, the truth is that waaaaaaay to many innocent people were banned. Period. There are a few people who were (and still are) gleeful that this whole thing happened. They somehow feel vindicated for all the bad things people have said about them. Even as a lurker, I can tell you that most of the drama is brought on by all parties involved. It's changed the CB - alot. Great people have been forced to find other places to spend their time - it's a huge loss for the DIS - period.

:thumbsup2

I believe that the events of the past few month have had a major impact on the current atmosphere of the CB. It's really sad now when you now have to preface a statement by saying "I hope this doesn't get me banned but....

Too much walking on eggshells now :confused3

Nope. that is why I said SOME. Some never did anything wrong as far I could ever see. Some were probably way past their time to be banned.

Are you joking?

Ill agree the board is slower - and Ill agree I miss a few (and again - they know who they are :) ::yes:: )

Im as loyal as a dog. Just because theyve chosen to take up posting there doesnt make me like them any less. I'd prefer they didnt, because I dont think they realize how nasty it has been (not just to me or DisFan) - but it's not my choice.

However - and I beleive it was WMKathy said - this wasnt supposed to be a hip/edgy place. It was a discussion board. Ive met some wonderful people here - and made some really, cool, kind friends.

And for me - even when it wasnt 'me' that was being discussed 'there' - it made me terribly sad. Even though some people beg to differ, I *do* have thick skin. Ive been Disney message boarding since I was 22 - Im going to be 35 this year. I know how 'brave' people will get behind their monitors. I still feel horrible and 'icky' for someone being piled on. It's an icky thing to see, and anyone who believes otherwise shocks me. :worried:

So because people are immature and get off on making fun of another human being, I should stay out of the kitchen. Please. People should grow up.

OT - They shut down VMK? That sucks. I know so many people were so into it. Did they give an explanation??

Unfortunately, people being immature and ripping others to shreds is now almost a way of life. Just look at all the tabloids and the majority of "reality" shows. They're not about teaching people how to help each other up. They're all about how to tear everyone down. And it's become perfectly acceptable. :headache:

Yes. They shut down VMK on May 22. The only explanation given is that it was a "promotion" and was never supposed to last so long. Most of us never believed that line. Especially after we were told time and time again that it was staying open.
Most of us that have stayed on the DIS now post under the sub-fourm Non-Disney Online Games as it has come out that Disney considers all their online games as mere promotions that can be shut down at any time. There's also nothing else quite like it on the internet anywhere. The shame of it was that so many kids that had developed close friendships in VMK have no way to contact each other now, thereby ripping apart those friends.

As for the boards being different, they are slightly. But they saying goes "The more things change, the more they stay the same".

I find this quite true here.

By speaking their mind.

By calling a spade a spade.

By refusing to allow anyone else dictate what websites they visit.

It amazes me the nastiness that is allowed here by the same folks over and over and over. And yes, you will find these same people over at the circle of sarcasm (yes, I said it out loud).

They post and read there daily. But curiously, that is ok. Makes many wonder who they realy are....

But, this is cyperspace, in the end I really really dont care much. Just feel the need to speak MY mind....

Over and out!!!! :wave2: :wave2:

Off topic - what are they going to do with the VMK on Main Street then? That's prime real estate.

I know, when someone posts something very sanctimonious and judgmental, you cannot feel free to challenge them or even gently mock them b/c you are afraid of getting banned. I am a big fan of the gentle mock [and frankly, some people really deserve it], but have had to be careful to use it somewhat sparingly to avoid any points or demerits or whatever.

The pace is MUCH slower here on the CB. Topics used to cycle through so quickly before, not it seems like hours and hours before new stuff comes up. You may disagree with how fun or witty the banned DISers are, but they were certainly prolific with the posts.

****And I wonder why my son gets into fights, when the person he's fighting actually had an issue with his friend....not him! I just realized where he got it from :rotfl2: ****

Will you get outta here!!! :rotfl: There's attempted feather ruffling going on... Brush those shoulders off, girl!

::yes::

Bolded - youre right. I was on a completely different board and this sort of thing happened. It was like 1997!!!! And guess who was in the 4 banned - oh c'mon, take one guess.... ;) And everyone got mad and same as here. Poof Poof Poof!

But - these are messages boards. There are hoards of them out there. If you dont like the rules, people, whatever - move on. Call it as suck uppy as you like, but I genuinely love it here. Truly. :lovestruc

Im sorry about VMK. I know those of you who were into it, were REALLY into it. That stinks!!! :worried:

are there actual rules against posting elsewhere? I guess I need to go research the DIS home page.

On Main Street - Main street? There was a VMK area? I didnt know this....where was it?
Near the jewelry store I think. I'd been in there before, but was never into it. It was in the building that looks like a movie theater if that makes sense.

The Pal Mickey place. Okay... Hmph.... Yeah I wonder what they will do with that.

It cant be all VMK, is it?
