True. I wonder why they offer them? However, they are limited in number and when they are gone they are gone. And they are not enough of a discount to get excited about.

AAA probably has enough members to negotiate the discounted rates.

Some discount is better than none....

Just wondering- how long have the room "codes" been in existence? I know I have paid reduced amounts for rooms over the years, back into the early 90s, but I can't remember whether these were just overall reduced rates or there was a code involved. Is the code thing a more recent development, maybe started 4-5 years ago?

Sorry, but I don't think Disney 'owes' it to anybody to give out discount codes. You buy an AP for park admission and sometimes you might get lucky and get a discount on a room. Terrific. But, don't buy an AP just to get a break on your room. Especially with the new admission options.

It would seem that Disney doesn't have a huge amount of empty space to fill up this spring. Why would anyone expect them to release discounts if they can get people in there for top dollar? This is a business. And I have to wonder how many people out there have booked rooms, hoping and praying for a good discount code to come out so that they can afford to go. When this happens, Disney gets an inflated room count, and then doesn't need to discount!!! And then, people say.."No discounts mean we can't go!!" And now, we have empty rooms...viscious cycle. Book what you can afford and if a discount comes out, down the road, try to make a switch to a different resort.

I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but I see a trend toward the belief that a trip to WDW is a right...that everyone should be able to go, so Disney should make it affordable for every single family/person that wants to go, to be able to do so. Sorry, this is real life and not everyone that wants to go to WDW will be able to afford it. I didn't go until I was almost 50!!! My family couldn't afford it, so we didn't go. And when I went when I was 49...I paid rack rates because I didn't even know there was any other pricing. Now, with there great boards, I can watch and sometimes get a good rate or just plan my trip for a cheaper time of year. Or stay at a cheaper resort or spend fewer nights there. So, there are different ways to get your money's worth other than discount rates.

I totally agree with you! Many years ago, only those who could really afford to could go to Disney and then maybe only once every 5 or 10 years and stay onsite, unless they were camping. Disney saw the demand for more affordable accomdations and built moderates.... so more people could afford to come and stay on property and experience the whole Disney Experience and also those who may have only been able to come stay on property every once in a while could come more often. Then they decided that it would be nice to have more affordable rooms for those who want to come to Disney, but can't afford to stay in a moderate, therefore they built the value resorts. Yes, people COULD stay offsite for less, but with the convenience, why bother? Now everyone has been spoiled due to the last 5 years of decreased tourism, and now that tourism is increasing, they expect the same treatment. It isn't going to happen that way. If Disney (or any hotel/resort) can fill their resorts at rack rate, they will... only when they have the room to offer discount rates will they again.

I am sure this is going to get me flamed - but please understand that these are my BIL not MY feelings on the whole code for AP especially the Fl resident AP. I was talking to him about our upcoming trip and mentioned that I had found these boards and filled him on all the new things I have learned. I went on to tell him that I had read that there may not be any more codes and that esp the AP and Fl AP people are going to be very upset. Well-now remember this is BIL- not mine- opinions. He has lived in Jax for over 20 yrs and they have had the AP for as long as he can remember. He feels that the Disney is very generous with the price of the AP's and that the rest is all gravy. He stated that you get an incredible bargain on the admission price with using these and that the rooms at rack rate are not a bad deal considering the quality. Does anyone feel like he does? That maybe WDW is already giving you a bargain with the AP's? He also stated that yrs ago there was rarely any discounts on the rooms and says that only after 9/11 did the discounts come into play like you all talk about...........

Yes, I buy the AP for the parks! One year I figured out it cost me about $5 a day LOL! (That was pretty unusual, I got to work around Orlando a lot that year!)
