Considering a New SIG and thought maybe I could post here to see what it would look like.

Feel free to comment and/or test your own future sigs.

Well, if you are asking for comments, I dislike political sigs. The rancorous political debates permeate too much of modern life these days. I come to places like this to get away from them. It's not a question of agreeing or disagreeing and it's not that I don't think those issues are important. I just don't think this is the place for them.

I think the statue pic with his screen name is what he is talking about.

The pic is fine, I am guessing you'll shrink it though?

That is the OLD SIG Mark, but what is there to disagree with or not???? IT IS JUST A QUOTE that I found to be hilarious.

You know what I will let it go, and try to only use it in the community board.

Well when I started I was looked at the guidelines which state "max of three images, with each image being 550x200(HxV) max)", so I wanted to see what that would look like.

So that image size that you see is allowed, but I compressed to a level 1 JPEG and it still exceeds the FILE SIZE rule limits and it already took out much of the detail, sharpness and saturation. So yes I will have to try again with a smaller image size.

I don't mind the political line so much but I admit that I probably wouldn't like it if it skewed another way. There are plenty of these things (including overly religious sigs) that I don't care for, but generally it's easy to ignore them.

I don't like great big images in the sig, either. I know Disboards is more of a "community" place than some other forums, but sometimes it just goes overboard. Big sparkly names and all that - I'm sorry, I just don't see the appeal of them. :confused3 They're also more bandwidth to churn through and they can make the page a lot more to scroll through.

And I'd definitely take a shorter, wider picture any day over a tall, thin one.

(In case it wasn't obvious - it took me a minute to figure it out - Anewman is using three pictures there, in sequence to look like one single picture.)

See I dont really consider it "political", more humor than anything else. But I can see where Mark is coming from, I one time had a poster ask me why I was attacking the president like that. It is an ACTUAL QUOTE, how can it be a slam if he actually said it:confused3

Yes now that I see how large the picture could be I will be down sizing bigtime, I was just trying to push the SIG rules to the limit and see what was left.

Yes using three images as the rules allow, but the total file size is bigger than allowed and the image is already compressed farther than my quality standards so that is another reason to downsize.

I try to avoid politics here on the DIS, but I'm sure if someone followed you around every day recording most of what you say, you'd probably say something that sounds pretty silly, too, once in a while....

Of course it's political ... it's "humor" at the expense of a political figure.

I wouldn't consider it an *attack*, but pointing out the dumb things people say isn't being respectful.

some how a sparkly "groucho" seems like it might be an oxymoron,No? but boy if i knew how to make them i sure would be sorely tempted to make groucho a nice frilly sparkly fancy one:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:;)

maybe it's cause it was animated but i couldn't get the one alterego avatar in my sig to be accepted any larger than it is, making it impossible to see my bunny slippers or zorro mask plus it isn't animated

I don't mind a lot of sigs but I have to agree that many go overboard. I finally just turned them off. The people with the giant sparkly sigs are happy and I'm happy. Well, happier than I'd be if I had to wade through them.

Are these comments about my signature?

i doubt it was meant personally to you just a general comment as to what some like or don't like...to each his own right?

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... no thanks. :teeth:

MicMin, no, not about you nor anyone else in particular. Yours isn't even all that big, there are quite a few people who have much larger, big, sparkly ones. Anyway, the sparkly thing itself was just an example - but it's a free country, I have just as much right to be offended as anyone else so I'll put up with anything anyone feels like putting in their signature, whether or not I like it or even if it actually offends or upsets me.

I didn't realize I could turn off sigs....ahhhh...that's much nicer.

but pointing out the dumb things people say isn't being respectful.
I think my kids and employees consider it to be a moral imperative.

Right. :)

Groucho and GrumpyOne the reason that I asked if it was my signature is because I am kind of new to posting on the photography board and I thought that if it was bothering anyone then I just wouldn't use it here.

That you're concerned about it tells me that there probably isn't a problem with it :thumbsup2 Each forum should have a post stickied that mentions the signature rules if you're interested.
