Siemens ends sponsorship with Disney

I remember being really disappointed after Nestle took over. When Kraft was the sponsor, many of the menu items at the restaurant were smothered with cheese. It was our go-to place for breakfast in the park, just to get those cheese omelets.

Do you mean smothered in Kraft Singles? You know they have to call them "singles" because Kraft American "cheese" doesn't legally qualify as cheese, right?

We use Siemens circuit breakers in our home breaker panel. My husband does all of our home's electric himself though so maybe the "average" homeowner might not recognize that. But no, them sponsoring at WDW does not influence my purchasing activity.

I saw the name on a medical device when I went for a test, can't remember but I think it was an MRI...anyway...would have never known about Siemens otherwise, I only recognized it because of Disney. Made me have good thoughts...LOL!

I love Spaceship Earth! Judi Dench puts me into such a relaxed mood. I love the smells in that ride too, it's so much of a part of it, like the smell of old books. It just does something magical to me. I can ride it over and over again. One time, there was hardly anybody in the park and the CM let us go on it again and again without getting off. It is irreplaceable in my opinion...but Disney will do whatever it wants regardless of how nostalgic people feel because more young families don't have the same memories....everything changes....even Disney.

And the price goes from $49 to $79 and the only difference is you and ride FEA afterwards????

Not the only difference. The food and beverage offerings have been enhanced. There will be beer and real wine. The party ambiance will be upgraded with Frozen themed decor, and this is a big difference, assigned seating has been added.

Yep, have worked on a few studies with them testing out breast cancer imaging devices that they make. And the one (hopefully only) time I had to get an MRI, the machine was made by Siemens.

I was thinking the same thing about the MRI machine. It's unfortunate when they slid me in that it didn't welcome me to spaceship earth though.....

Right? Would have made the process so much more pleasant...they did give me headphones to listen to some music (I picked "hits of the '90s" which was pretty awesome), but I wouldn't have turned down SSE audio or Future World music if I'd had the option.

Same, it was nice they got to choose my own music, but not nearly as nice as choosing my own future....

You do know that Kraft owns the Cracker Barrel line of real cheese (unrlated to Cracker Barrel restaurants)?

But as for the processed cheese food lines, I'll refer you to the threads from last year bemoaning the loss of cheese sauce from at least one of the MK QS restaurants (Pecos Bill?).

From what I gather, Kraft owns most things in a standard grocery store and, conveniently enough, despite their diversity, these products can all fit into just two categories:
Cheese
Non-cheese

From my experience (and I hope that of most) Siemens falls into the non-cheese category, as it were.

Spaceship Earth has been in place since 1981 and Siemens only sponsored it for the last 10 years...it will be fine, so long as no one thinks it's a good idea to put a big wand on top of it again. Sylvania was formerly a Siemens company that sponsored Illuminations but hasn't been theirs for a few years at this point. My husband has been a US Siemens employee for the last 15 years and what we will miss the most from the partnership of the last 10 years is the 12% off park tickets and the lounge with free soda and nicely appointed bathrooms. I understand Siemens is re-focusing their corporate sponsorships...now to include Formula One racing.

Yes...my daughter said the same thing. It has had several different sponsors, no need to panic. It's one of my favorite rides.

Speaking of Siemens employees, I spent last night with a couple of dozen of them at the Siemens VIP Center, the Biergarten restaurant and then for Illuminations. One of the best and most fun group I've ever dealt with. It was apparent that it was a bitter sweet moment for them as they watched, probably for the last time for them, the Siemens name on SSE after the show.

I don't see SSE changing that much. The current ride could by updated as the track is very bumpy. I actually did my first college program there when Seimens took over the sponsorship. That was the year the ride when down for refurb and they redid the whole post show area and took the wand down. I really miss the Jeremy Irons narration. We knew all the words after the program. The new version just doesnt do it for me but that is because I am biased.

Unless things have changed, they are very limited in what they can do in the space. I remember we were told that when working there. Plus people were so mad when it was closed. We had to keep saying it was only closed for 6 months. It is a beloved attraction so I think it will stay. However, I hate the end scene and hope they spruce up that back part. I always really miss the tunnel with all the neon lights through it.

I got an idea, if they are going to replace Spaceship Earth. They could create a "Wall-E" ride and show fat versions of everyone. So basically it would be your face superimposed on a huge body. It would give new meaning to the words "Welcome to your Future".

You know how they give you a mirror so you can see out during an MRI? I vote that they 86 the mirror and instead put up a video of Disney rides and pipe in the music in those headphones. MRIs would be so much more pleasant if I felt like I was on Splash Mountain, Great Movie Ride, or Spaceship Earth.
