Siemens ends sponsorship with Disney

Why does a corporation as huge and profitable as Disney even need another corporation to sponsor attractions?

Cause they:

1. Like money
2. Can't let go of the sponsorship model
3. Are governed by non-creative cut throat board members who are in it for differing reasons...but none for the longterm glory of disney...
4. Have an outgoing CEO desperate to get that stock up to the top penny before he pulls the ripcord
5. Have expenses and other problems that cause bleed and put too much pressure on the parks
6. Really like money

My theory on the monorail deal not working is two words: Gondola and Dopplemayr. I personally believe that after the gondola gets up and going, Disney and Dopplemayr may be looking at the monorail. And there may have been some friction on the Siemens end with that. It's a theory, and I may be totally wrong.

Although I think Disney should be able to have world class attractions without sponsorship, I wouldn't mind seeing Google sponsor SSE. I could see them doing some cool interactive things with the ride and the after show.

As an aside, World of Motion was sponsored by GM, who also initially sponsored Test Track. Now it's sponsored by Chevy.

Not bad

I think the most interesting part of that is "five reasons why Caribbean will become a "deluxe" resort...I have nothing to say"

...that's because it's not...and that what we went rounds about months ago. It...is...not.

OT: Exterior doors? Nope. Nope. Nope. Not deluxe...no words.

Back on topic: Who sponsored Illuminations before Siemens? Has the Epcot night time show always been sponsored?

Thanks guys! I actually do remember GE sponsoring Illuminations now that its been mentioned!

...the worlds largest corporation...which has never been seen from since.

Think the sponsorship model is busted?

Yep, Disney acts like they are bums on the street and need the sponsorships to fund the rides. Guess what Disney? You're not a friggin free theme park. People are paying thousands of dollars to go on vacation to Disney World and go in your parks. Pay for your own maintenances and refurbs.

At one point GE owned NBCUniversal, so I would assume sponsoring things at WDW would be a big conflict of interest. They don't own NBCUniversal anymore (Comcast does) so maybe when Siemens pulls out GE steps back in? I doubt it, but it couldn't be ruled out.

You also gotta think GE sponsored horizons. What do people remember most about horizons? I think any GE involvement is pretty low on the list of recall. The only pavilion in Epcot it makes sense to be sponsored is test track by GM because they literally showcase their product there. There's a direct correlation between the ride and the product. I suppose you could throw Chiquita banana in there for the living with the land ride, but even that I don't think drives up that much interest in their product.

And that is ground zero to what has happened to Epcot...that and the internet makes people stupid

That's why it should be all but given away...do a 50% sale for sponsors. Cut the countries a break too if you have to. Make it so the line forms

I think Kraft was a sponsor of Food Rocks or something in the Land pavilion at one point - I thought no something like that makes sense. Maybe they could move to more like that with multiple sponsors per pavilion rather than one to cover an entire pavilion

Well, Disney doesn't pay for anything - their consumers do. So if no sponsors look for even higher ticket costs because stock holders won't be like "oh, no sponsors? That's cool, we are fine with lower profits"

That's true as well. I think if they want sponsors they need to make it more appealing somehow, like @lockedoutlogic was saying about splitting the costs of whatnot

Who sponsored Illuminations before Siemens?

I believe AT&T sponsored SSE...thought maybe Illuminations (hence the edit).

GE sponsored Illuminations, but didn't Sylvania, the light bulb folks, or maybe they sponsored something else...

I think I remember that too... or in the Wonders of Life? Maybe Habitat Heroes?
