Sideways stateroom on Wonder

So I found out that there's a couple of sideways staterooms available on the Wonder for our Jan 15 MR cruise. I'm looking at making the change for 2 reasons - first of all people seem to really like the sideways rooms, and it'll drop the price $40 since we'd be going from a cat11a on deck 7 to a cat11b on deck 6.

What's the board verdict? Is it worth dropping down from a mid-ship room on deck 7 to a sideways fore room on deck 6 for the sideways room and the $40 savings?

BTW we've never cruised before so it's not as if we've really got anything to compare it to, but from the pictures I've been able to find + the steamer trunk those sideways rooms look pretty nice.

I have now done sideways twice with a sideways booked in 3 weeks, and for the Hawaii cruise. We love them. We know they are no bigger than the other 11Bs but they just seem bigger. I say make the move.

We stayed in a sideways room last year on the Wonder, and we loved it. Me and my wife had one, and my teens (and neice) stayed in another, and they liked it better than the standard layout. I guess they're the same size as a standard room, but they seem bigger.

I love cabin 6521 on the Wonder and the Magic, I have been in it 3 times on the Wonder, once on the Magic and will be there again on the Magic next July and the Wonder next September. Whether it is worth it is strictly personal preference, but I like the layout, there seems to be more floor space and there is a steamer trunk for more storage. It is the first cabin on the port side of the hallway going forward, so it is very handy for those forward elevators to the adult areas, pool and spa. I have never been bothered by noise except on the first night, and that is the excitement of everyone getting to their cabins and the cruise in general. I see no need to ever be in any other cabin, for me. I don't need a port hole or a verandah, just a clean room with some space.

By the way - since only one wall of the room is shared with another room I'm just curious which wall it is. This is a second honeymoon trip and we'd like to cause as little disturbance ()as possible to people in adjoining rooms.

For 6521 you share the wall the headboards are on and the wall that the bathroom mirror is on. I have heard noise from the cabin above when there were kids jumping, too, but it only happened once.

Have a great trip, nothing better than a cruise.

This is also our favourite cabin. We had it 3 times on the Magic and are about to have it for the first time on the Wonder. Last year for the Westbound Transatlantic, we were assigned this out of GTY status and I was over the moon.

When you come into the cabin, the right-hand wall is the shared one. This is the wall closest to the bathroom and the closet.

I was in 6521 on the Wonders panama cruise, and I am in 6521 on the Magic on Oct 8. For Hawaii I am nextdoor in 6515.

I don't have any pics but I can tell you you enter with the seating area and table in front of you. To the right was the bathroom and closest and to the left is the sleeping area. The TV stand/cabinet is behind you to the left and the desk is facing the bed to the left.

In January I was on the Wonder in one of these sideways staterooms for two days and it was fine. I heard from my travel agent that these room are a little larger than the other inside staterooms however since I usually get window views I could not say for sure. I would say do it.

Post #42 on this thread has pictures comparing the two types of inside rooms.
Here's a picture I took inside room 5513 on Wonder. Was by the bed, facing the bathroom/closet area.

The entry to the room is just off the right side of this picture, the entrance to the bathroom is directly across from the closet. While the square footage of the room is the same as other Cat 11's, the layout makes the room feel very large!

I'm glad that people like 6521 on Magic. We'll be there in November, and I can't wait!

From the comparison pics in that thread it actually looks like the sideways room is a little wider. Maybe it's just a trick of the perspective but it doesn't look to me like a normal cat11 would be wide enough for the bed to be rotated 90 degrees and have the desk in front of it.

i booked a sideways cat 11 for my next cruise.. have also stayed in regualar cat 11 what i like is that the bathroom isnt right where you open the door, seems more private when people are coming and going out of your room, thanks for the pics!

I love 6521 for all the same reasons! It was superb to get to the elevators!!

The room does seem like it is larger than the regular cabins.

I think it's a perspective trick. The space where the desk is would be taken up by the nightstands on either side of the bed. There really isn't much standing between the bed and the desk.
