Hi there,

We have a 4 month old Balinese kitten named Jiko. Yesteday morning he started vomiting (yellow) and not eating/drinking. Within one of his vomits was a pompom (small) and a hairband. Ok, I though he had gotten it out. Then he kept vomiting and started acting lethargic.

I brough him to the Emergency Vet yesterday afternoon. 4 hours later, the xrays show no obstruction. They give him some sub C fluids and a shot for the vomiting and send us home.

He continues to be very lethargic, vomited again at least twice last night (that I can find) and is very quiet still. He has a well visit for 12:20pm today with his regular Dr. (whom I shall call Dr. Hottie  ).

Any ideas? Could the culprit still be in his stomach? Can cats get the flu (no fever)?

You're certainly doing all the right things. Here's hoping your Vet can figure this out. Some cats, and particularly kittens, will eat just about anything!

Please let us know how he makes out. Poor little guy. :(

Awww, your kitty is adorable. I hope he feels better soon.

Awww...what a sweet kitty! I think cats can catch colds from us, but not sure about the flu. Hope it feels better soon.

Don't worry too much. My cats have had things wrong with them that we've never figured out. I remember one acted much like yours is, the vet had no idea what was wrong, and the kitty was fine in a few days. :) Don't you wish they could talk some days and tell us how they feel?

What a cute little baby! I have a Siamese who looked so much like that when he was a kitten. :)

I hope he's feeling better soon.

I hope the baby feels better soon. I hate when my cats are sick.
I am sure your Vet. will be able to get him well.

My cat went through the same sounding thing, except she was vomiting bile like stuff, they did an xray and nothing was found. I was told though if it's something like a rubberband or plastic it will not show on xray. I hope your kitten gets to feeling better soon and please call them back or take him back if he continues to vomit. Better safe than sorry.

Update: I took him in when the vet opened this morning. He is now on IV fluids and will have a Barium Swallow and xrays all day. The vet is pretty sure it is a blockage. :guilty:

He is in the best hands possible right now but I am very worried.

I will update more when I find out any news...

Any happy ending blockage stories would be great here...

Things like pompoms and rubber bands don't show up on x-rays.
The sooner the foreign objects are removed, the better chance of recovery. It sounds like you're doing everything right.

Update: Surgery was successful! Pompom removed... Jiko is doing pretty well. We can bring him home tomorrow if all goes well tonight in recovery. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

So Happy! :cheer2:  :cheer2:  :cheer2:  :cheer2:  :cheer2:  :cheer2:   :cheer2:

Your house must be real quiet without him. I'm glad he will be back home soon.

So glad to hear that surgery went well. I bet I know what you're doing right now... kitten proofing your house. :teeth:

With this herd of cats that I have I find they're always getting into something. Curly ribbon use to be the worst. Now I won't even let that stuff in my house!

So glad he's going to be okay. Yes, kitten proof the house! They love to get into trouble!

Yes, you're right! I am kitten proofing the house tonight! PLUS, I am adding my other two cats to his insurance policy! :cool1: I can't say how glad I am that I took Pet Insurance out on this bundle of JOY! Can you say $50 for a $1,500+ bill? Oh yeah!

So, kitten proofing and packing for vacation! I am so relieved right now I can barely type! :Pinkbounc
