Sick at the parks, what to do?

So as I'm writing this, we've got just one day to go before our WDW Trip. We're leaving Monday at 2:00. About half of the family is sick with a cold, my brother is slowly recovering from a virus which he just got about two days ago. I feel okay, perhaps a slight cold but I'm probably doing the best out of the four of us. What do you guys do if you're heading to the world a bit under the weather? I've taken Zyrtec this morning which seems to help a bit, though today it seems to be lacking. Luckily my throat seems fine, no pain really. Any suggestions would be great.

Be prepared to take it easy. Twice we've gone to DL after DS had a cold, and both times he had a rebound sickness that was far worse than the initial cold. We've also gotten sick while at wdw and it's just awful.

If needed there's a Walgreens Clinc just outside of DTD that we used last December when DS had a sore throat/ear infection. They were very good and very quick. You can even schedule an appointment online rather than waiting as a walk in patient. Also your resort's concierge/front desk should be a good resource if you need any further assistance with a sickness issue.

Oh, this stinks. :-( I would recommend getting your hands on some Elderberry Syrup. Typically I make my own as it is better (and much cheaper), but you probably don't have time to get the elderberries as you would have to try to find them locally (I get mine organic and dried on Amazon in bulk). Google "Elderberry Syrup" and you will read about its wondrous properties to help you not only when you are sick, but to help prevent it in the first place.

I can tell you this - we are annual passholders and visit Disney World two or three times a year for 2+ weeks each time. Every time I have made elderberry syrup and given it to the kids they have never gotten sick. The last time we went in December I didn't do it - and they both got pretty darn sick while we were there. It pretty much lost us 3 total days, and 3 or 4 more of them were pretty sluggish after that. Needless to say, we will be using it from here on out. I start giving it to them (and taking it myself) about 2 weeks before we are to leave, and then take enough with me to last us until we return.

This is the recipe I use if you can get your hands on any elderberries: http://holisticsquid.com/elderberry-syrup-recipe/

This is the pre-made elderberry syrup I have used in the past: KIDS http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-O...1436046940&sr=8-3&keywords=organic+elderberry ADULTS http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-O...1436046940&sr=8-1&keywords=organic+elderberry

I also make sure to give them a good multi-vitamin, fish oil, and probiotic as well. I didn't do any of that this last time either. :-( Live and learn!!! lol

I think Zicam is amazing! It seems to stop colds fast! Also, this may sound gross, but snort saline as much as possible . It flushes the viruses out of your nose and sinus passages, also drink a ton of fluid . They flush cooties from your insides! Lol. (I'm a community health RN and also teach nursing- love to give free advice!)

You got some good advice above. When I've been sick on vacation I made up my mind to ignore it. I decided if I was going to be miserable I would rather be having a good time than locked in a hotel room. Take it slow, stay hydrated and have fun.

This is great info to have on hand. Thanks.

I usually use cold-eze or emergen-c when I feel a cold coming on.

I would bring some on the trip along with some vitamin c drops.

Also bring some hand sanitizer to prevent getting any other illnesses as well as stop the spreading of yours to other people.

I don't if it really helps or if it's in my mind but I use emergen-c at the first sign of a sore throat or cold. Since I started that several years ago, the number of colds I've gotten is a lot less. My husband, who made fun of me, now uses it as well. I also use zinc drops occasionally. Lots of good advice from others here.

Hope you all feel better and have a great time.

I agree to keep the Walgreens clinic in mind. We had to go there last trip on our last day because my husband had bronchitis.

Are you flying to disney? Stuffed nose and plugged ears = murder on a plane. Get yourself some Earplanes, they work like a charm, though it will feel tight in your ears. Dose your family with some afrin and dayquil to get through the parks.

I swear by Airborne, though it's better to take at first sign of a cold rather than during a cold, but fluids, rest and vitamin C are necessary.

Totally agree with the above poster on tips if you are flying. Get EarPlanes (available at Walgreens for about $5) and Afrin. As soon as I get my seat on the plane, I put it in the EarPlanes (get these in before the door closes and they start to pressurize the cabin) and squirt Afrin up my nose. Clears the sinuses so you have no pain and the EarPlanes allow your ears to pop slowly, so you won't have that awful feeling like your head is going to explode.
Other than that, listen to your bodies and if you're tired, go back to your hotel and rest. Don't overdo it and make it worse, especially in this heat. I'm sure you'll still manage to have an amazing time! :)

Ibuprofen, pseudophedrine, lots of water, and for the night cough sleep with Vicks rubbed on the feet with socks over them (a ratty pair of socks or a pair you don't care if you ruin) . The Vicks sock trick will stop both DD and my night cough within 10 minutes about 90% of the time. Hope you all feel better!

The Florida air may help with your sinuses and congestion. Depending on where you're coming from a change in the air may help. It won't get rid of a virus and central Florida isn't as effective as being on the beach but the salt helps may relieve some of your groups pain.
