Look out, big whine ahead!

We got here Tuesday afternoon, and thankfully were able to upgrade our tickets to four day with the online prices (so for 2 adults, 1 child it was $37 for the extra day). We were able to enjoy Tuesday afternoon, and all day yesterday (including WOC and my son being picked for Jedi training at the first show we went to). We were planning on going to today's Magic Morning. However, my poor boy woke at about 2am crying that his ear hurt. After a restless night, he woke sick to his stomach. He's vomited four times today, and slept most of the day. We're just hanging out out at the hotel today watching TV. :sad2:

His dr called some antibiotics in to Target, and my husband was able to walk down to pick it up. I'm really hoping he is feeling better tomorrow, else we will likely end up having to take a taxi to urgent care. And tomorrow is our last day....

Oh no! I hope the medicine works fast and he's feeling better really soon...hopefully soon enough to enjoy the rest of your trip :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Hmm. We never had ear pain and vomiting together. Did your doc prescribe for an inner ear infection? If you're going to give your son antibiotics on an already upset stomach, you may want to consider some yogurt with active cultures, especially if your son is sensitive to antibiotics. Also, are you able to give him any ibuprofen for the pain? I know it's hard though if he's not holding anything down.

So sorry this happened to you. Kids are resilient. Here's hoping your son recovers quickly. DS9 had infections simultaneously in both ears once years ago but after getting on the antibiotics was begging to go to soccer the next day.

Oh no! I hope he is feeling better soon! I think there are doctors in the SoCal area who will come to the hotel. Might be a little pricey, but worth it if it saves time/aggravation from sitting in urgent care. I hope he feels better soon! :goodvibes

Oh no. So sorry to hear this. :sad1:

I am so hoping the medicine kicks in soon.

So not fun. I hope he's feeling better soon. I vote that your dh and you take turns going out into the park today, though. Since you already have the tickets.

Thanks for the thoughts!

This is his 3rd ear infection in 3-4 months (and 3rd in his whole life..he's 6yo)...so something is up. I'm planning on taking him to an ENT when we get back home, and also have him tested for allergies. Meanwhile, I think we'll try eliminating dairy from his diet and see what happens. From my limited online research, it seems that dairy allergies are a big cause of recurrent ear infections. He vomited once with his last ear infection...but he's up to five times today, so he might have a tummy bug as well. Blah!

We are in Northern California, and there is a bad stomach bug going around here. My daughter had it this week, I started to get it a few days ago. It makes you ache all over and have a very upset stomach with the kind of symptoms you are describing. I work at an elementary school, and half the kids in the class were out with it last week.

Take care,
Lisa

OH NO! I am sorry you are going through that. What a terrible time. Last year when we went my mom on day 2 woke up with the flu, and then I caught it, and a few days into the trip my brother and his wife showed up and my brother caught it. There were 3 of us every single afternoon curled up in one bed for an afternoon nap, a box of tissues and staying close to the bathroom before we could muster up leaving for a few more hours at the park. I can only imagine what your son is going through. I am glad your doctor was able to send over some antibiotics to Target.

I'm sorry! It's no fun to be sick away from home.

We've gotten sick the last couple of years at DL. DD (7) had terrible ear pain and needed antibiotics 2 years ago. And last year was the worst! DH had a stomach bug, DS (14) got a terrible chest cold, and DS (15) ended up with an ear infection. I blame the plane ride.

This year, no eating on the plane and everyone will be instructed to keep hands away from their face until we land and can wash with soap and water.

As an FYI, we found a pharmacy that delivered meds to our hotel. Pretty quickly, too. I think we had DD's prescription within 2 hours.

We did too. All your doing is breathing in recycled air. As corny as it may look, it might be good to wear a mask of some sort on the plane.

I really feel for you since my younger DS got sick with the flu a couple of days before we left on our trip last month, and really kicked in once we arrived. If you can catch a taxi to Henry's Farmers Market up S. Harbor Blvd, they have some excellent cold and flu meds that really helped my son, when in addition to the flu, got a really bad ear infection to the point where I wouldn't let him into the deep pool. The cold and cough stuff I got there cleared up the ear infection really quickly, and helped him recover from the bug he got faster.

Well, he hasn't vomited since around 6pm last night. Keeping food down and says he feels fine. We took it easy this morning, but now he's riding Indiana Jones, the ultimate test to see just how good he's feeling. :scared1:

Just FYI - recurrent use of antibiotics can cause recurrent infections. The body adjusts to the antibiotic which makes the infection worse the next time around. I know it's hard for them, but Motrin for pain is the best course of action unless the infection is extreme. The infection will clear itself. One rough illness is better than recurrent problems. Unfortunately, doctors don't really educate along these lines. They also don't tell you that hand sanitizers don't work and are contributing to the worsening of bacterial infections.

Hope your little one feels better soon.

Tracy

I'm hoping your little one is feeling better since he wants to go on Indiana Jones and you haven't posted since this morning - hopefully you are all enjoying your last evening at DL!
