Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who is at all prone to motion sickness. Avoid this ride like the plague! I should have heeded the numerous warnings before boarding. My nieces, who have ridden many times, talked me into going. " Oh no Aunt Kathy, you don't feel it spinning." Never listen to teenagers. That video screen you watch that creates the take-off, flying, and landing effect sent me over the edge. I honestly can't remember a worse case of ride nausea. Hope this helps any of you who were undecided. Don't do it.

Thanks for the warning! I was already very apprehensive about this ride.

My friend went on this last week, and felt bad for about an hour afterwords.....I Warned her about it!:o She ALMOST lost her Cookies too!

I completely agree! I have never felt so sick in my life as I did on Mission Space. I didn't enjoy one second of the ride, because I was too focused on not vomiting on my DH and the two perfect strangers in our "cabin". After the ride was over, I had to sit down on the sidewalk for 20 minutes before I felt well enough to walk around, and I felt "off" for the rest of the night afterward! :(

Never, ever again. DH, who loved it, will be riding alone from now on. :p

Oh good, I'm glad it's not just me. I was sick as a dog also getting off of that ride. I couldn't even make it out of the building. I sat on one of the benches right at the entrance to the ride with my head between my knees trying to fight off the dizziness and nausea.

I will NEVER go on MS again!!

:earsgirl:

BTW, my DH and DS both loved it and rode it 2 more times after that!

We were there last June before the ride opened up, rumors indicated they were doing test rides on certain days at certain times, so my dh and ds and myself headed over to ms quite a crowd was there so we waited around, sure enough they opened the ride. I too saw the warning but my family talked me into riding, NEVER AGAIN...... I couldn't wait for the ride to stop, got off couldn't walk straight, the feeling scared me to death. While I was getting it together my husband was talking with others who were not feeling so well, seems that they were testing the speeds (don't know if it's true) but alot of people were sick

Both my husband and daughter are very prone to motion sickness. Spinning and simulator rides really bother them, although they are able to do coasters as long as there aren't a lot of tight corkscrew turns. Both did Mission Space. DH had a headache when he got off, which lasted a short period of time. DD was not bothered by it at all, and rode it again the next day. (She can't do rides like Star Tours, Body Wars, Back to the Future.) I think if you follow the directions exactly, and look straight ahead, it is better. I guess it's just a matter of how your body reacts to this attraction.

I did it on Tuesday (I'm here at WDW right now :)) and got sick. When the ride was over I didn't feel that great but was quite pleased that I had made it without being sick...I thought "OK, I'm glad I did it but I won't be doing it again". :sad2:

As the minutes wore on I felt more and more sick so we headed back to our resort. I barely made it to our room..where I was really sick. I spent the next few hours sleeping it off and felt better by the evening. I will NEVER ride MS again. My DD & our friend (DISer TimNDansMom) did it twice & loved it (DD feels sick sometimes on Star Tours so go figure). It's a great ride if you can handle it...I definitely cannot.

I agree with one of the previous posters....I'm glad I rode it but I will never ride it again. I NEVER get sick on rides and I almost tossed my cookies TWICE!!!:(

If anyone had any doubts about the nausea factor for this attraction these testimonials should convince them. I did follow the instructions, head back and eyes straight. I was glued into this position. If this was supposed to help alleviate "disorientation" can you imagine how much worse it would be if you didn't comply?

I'm very prone to motion sickness when spinning (one ride on the tea cups, and I'm done for the day)... However I did just fine on MS. Rode it three times with zero ill effects.

I'm another guest that is very prone to motion sickness and had absolutely ZERO problems with this ride. I have been on this at least 15 times and never an ill effect. I guess this just proves that we are all different and all react differently to these types of rides...

Another - NEVER AGAIN experience. DD14 went on last fall and was so nauseous afterwards that I seriously worried we'd have to take her to the hospital. We were able to get her back to the hotel room and she slept it off, but we had a couple of awful miserable scary hours. She said she followed the head back, eyes straight instructions, but that just didn't work for her. DD can do Star Tours/Body Wars with no problem. I should also mention that as I sat waiting for her to come out of the ride (because I knew I could never do it), I saw several people come off sick, including one poor woman just covered in vomit, and another 20ish guy unable to get up and walk for quite some time. Once was quite enough for for DD - never again!

We, DH and I got sick from Mission Space, my daughter, 9..loved it, "let's go again-type of thing..LOL
We did as told, don't look to the sides while riding it, but still got really nauseated (sp?) afterwards. Now as if that wouldn't be enough we went to see "Honey I shrunk the audience" right after, thinking it would "soon" go away. Not such a good idea!

This trip coming up we're bring Dramamine for sure. The thing is my DH loves rides, rollercoasters, done Universal etc. This one ride he couldn't hack, just remember to not look to the sides when riding Mission Space, look straight ahead at all times and that should help you!!

I can't do simulators eg star tours etc because of motion sickness, but I was determined to give MS a go. I even took a plastice bag with me to use in case I didn't make it off the ride, but I was absolutely fine, and went on it twice straight off. I then rode it again each day for several days. It seems to be a ride where you just can't predict the effect that it will have from one person to the next.

You know just about everyone has one of two experiences. One they feel rotten and "will never do it again". Or two, they go on it many times but they seem to be in the minority so far. At this pace the ones who go will be bored in two years and everyone else won't go again. I think this rides in trouble already.

I don't think this is exactly true. I think that the majority of people who respond to these Mission Space posts are the ones who have been sick because it was a big deal to them (and rightfully so). But I also think that many of those who experience no ill effects from the ride do not post to these types of threads.
I've always loved roller coasters, but hated the "spinny rides." My DW and I both love Mission Space and have never gotten sick on the ride.
I think Disney has done their research on this one and I think they've done everything in their power to "calm the effects" of this ride (blowing cold air on the face, vomit bags, numerous warnings about motion sickness). I agree with a previous poster that the ride can have totally different effects on different people based on a number of factors. But I also think that Disney is aware of the average person's tolerance to extreme G forces and disorientation. This ride is no different than many other extreme thrill rides out there, and those rides keep bringing people back year after year because the majority of them do not become ill from the experience.
In spite of the minority, I think Mission Space will be successful and I look forward to riding it for years to come.

I gotta agree with skfulkers, The ride is here to stay.

All people are different and will react differently.

I too was doubtful about going on to it and I have problems with other types of thrill rides.

My first ride was tough, I was lightheaded for about 10 minutes. I sat down while my DB and DSIL went on it and when they came back, offered for me to go back with my SIL. Not wanting to look like a wimp, I went with her.

The tip I got from my DB was to act the part. When we boarded the ride, I played with all of the buttons and switches and continued to do so throughout the ride.

I was fine when the ride was over and went back on it again. I had no trouble then either.

Keeping your mind occupied definately helps.

Hi all,

I agree that the ride affects everyone differently.
It has affected me differently each time I have ridden it.
We were there last summer(july 2004) and got to ride in
a soft opening as a previous poster did. On this ride I felt a
little woosy for a few minutes after. My kids loved it and
had no affect. In dec. we rode it a few times and I was
a little woozy each time, not as much as the first time in
july and not enough to keep me from riding again. We rode
again last week and I had no affect at all, it was great.
We love the ride and plan on riding every time we go.

I have a funny story about my last trip in June. My bf and I decided to try out Mission Space and I loved it, however the motion sickness got to him and he threw up the whole ride.

Getting off the ride with a vomit drenched shirt and 3 barf bags in hand so we run to the gift shop to get him a new shirt. CM #1 came up to us asking did you have a good trip, smiling and not noticing his vomit drenched shirt.

Now he is a pretty big guy so were looking around and noticed all of the tee shirts were only going up to an XL. So we asked asked another CM if they had the shirt in anything larger. A few minutes later she comes out saying no but we can special order one for you. Now here he is dripped in sweat and vomit and she didn't realize that he needed a shirt right now?

Finally we apprach a third CM at the cash wrap and we pay for the shirt. The CM begins wrapping it up in tissue paper. I politely say thats not neccesary so finally we get the tee and run to the bathroom to change his nasty shirt.

My question is when they know the ride makes several riders prone to nausea, that they need to put barf bags in it, that they could not notice when someone is ill? It amazes me that they didnt realize he needed the shirt that second, and special ordering it or wrapping it in tissue paper was not the least bit neccesary.

Shirts must be an excellent seller at the gift shop. Now if only they had an "I barfed on Mission Space" pin or button...
