My husband wants to know if there is some place on Disney property that he can see the shuttle Sunday after launch?

I think it's too far from the coast but thought I would ask.

Well, I can see it from my house, so you should be able to see it from Disney. Bring a compass at look east at around launch time. If it's not overcast or too cloudy, you should be able to see the plume of smoke rise through the air and disappear.

:)

My Mom lives on the other coast of Florida and is able to see the contrails from the launches. They're very straight, go on forever, and just seem out of place. You're not that far from the Cape at Disney- a little over an hour drive. You should be able to see it...

Take some pictures and share with us!? :goodvibes

I can see the launches here in Miami so he should be able to see it from WDW.

Towncrier posted a video of the last shuttle launch from one of the parks. Very clear view of the thing racing across the sky.

We saw the shuttle launch from China in July 2005. Here's a picture but we didn't have our good lens on the camera at the time. It's the glowing dot in the middle.

I've been incredibly lucky to have seen it from Downtown Disney (night launch SPECTACTULAR), from CBR and from the Boardwalk. You just need to find the right direction to look.......which isn't as easy as it sounds!
Enjoy the launch!

Years ago we stayed in the Contemporary. We had a room in the tower with a view of Bay Lake. We watched the shuttle launch from our balcony and could see it very clearly. At the same time, we had the live coverage on in our room on the TV so we had sound as well! It was very exciting.

A good place to see it might be from the observation deck on top of the Contemporary, although I don't know if it's possible for anyone to go up there whenever they want because of the crowds for California Grill.

Another time we saw it just by stepping outside our room at OKW and were again able to see it. You just need to look in the right direction.

As long as the weatehr cooperates, you can see it from anywhere in Central Florida. I can see it from my house in Clermont, and from my office in Winter Garden.

I've seen it from Epcot and the All Stars in the past.

If you've got a car, driving out to the airport area is a great way to get closer without having to fight the traffic to the coast.

We were staying at the BCV a few years ago and actually saw the shuttle go over Disney. We were in th quiet pool, and it was pretty amazing.

I would agree to look east. You'll probably be able to see something.

We were in the Magic Kingdom the day the shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986. Thankfully we did not see that. Maybe it wasn't high enough to be seen at WDW. No one in the parks knew about the tragedy until about 5 o'clock when the new shift of cast members came in talking about it.

I've seen two shuttle launches sitting in the hot tub at the WL. It wasn't much to see. Just a glowing object going into space, but it was still neat as we hadn't expected it.

DH took me to DW for my 1st time on our honeymoon and when we got to the boat dock at the TCC to go to the MK (it was our 1st day there), everyone was just standing in place on the boat looking up towards the Contempary. It took us just a minute to realize they were watching the shuttle. We thought it was very cool to see and it was a great way to start our honeymoon and my 1st Disney trip. :sunny:

Several years ago, we knew there was going to be a launch, so we stopped in St. Augustine to break up the trip and walked over to the beach to see if we could see anything. That was really cool! We couldn't see the shuttle itself (it was a night launch), but we saw the horizon get completly red and could follow the shuttle through the sky.

We've watched them from the top of the Contemporary Tower and from the Polynesian beach when we've been leaving work around launch time. We usually just watch from our front yard tho.

I can't wait!! :)

Hello,

Does anyone know what time the shuttle to set to launch? We arrive in FL at 2:00pm...would love to see this. Although I am sure that the launch would have happened already.

Thanks in advance!
