Shuttle from WDW to US-IOA

I know this might be blasphemy, but my son and I are planning a one-day trip to Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure during our December Disney vacation. I've been researching ways to get from our hotel (Pop Century) to Universal and thought that Mears shuttle sounded good at $14 a person round-trip. However, I've read a lot of bad experiences about using Mears for transport from MCO to the hotel. What can people tell me about using the shuttle from Disney to Universal? I would also appreciate any other suggestions for making the commute as well (we will not have a rental car). Thanks in advance!

I'd rent a car for the day and use the opportunity to go to one of the outlet malls and pick up bottled water and whatever else you need.
