I am a DVC member. I wish to stay at Shutters in Santa Monica in July of 2007. I am in the borrowing mode right now. Could I possibly rent points to stay at Shutters? How do I go about getting a reservation? I have never rented anything outside of wdw.

Shutters is one of the options in the Conceirge Collection. To get a reservation, you just call MS and tell the CM what you want. The CM takes it from there. It's that easy.

Keep in mind that once this is booked, should you later cancel, the points used for the reservation cannot be used for a stay a DVC resort.

Yes, you can rent points and then use them for a Concerige Collection reservation. However, it is almost always more expensive to use points for non-DVC options than it is to just pay cash. Be sure you do the math before you rent the points.

For 2007, a night at Shutters ranges from 59 - 86 points per night, depending on the view desired.

Best wishes -

It is possible that you could rent points, although if I were renting I wouldn't rent for anything but DVC. Just too much hassle and risk for the owner of the points, IMHO.

I also think the cost of doing that might be prohibitive. Before you go any further, I'd see how many points you'd need, multiply that by $10-12 and compare it with the cost of just calling Shutters and making a cash ressie. Cash may be less expensive.

Hi,

We stayed at Shutters in April for 2 nights on points and it was worth every point! We reserved no view (59 pts) but got a slight view over the pool with a peak of the ocean. Two nights wasn't enough. I think cash rates are around $500 per night - so I didn't feel it was a terrible use of points. The rooms are the nicest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in - so many unique details and an incredible bathroom. The lobby is so great to hang out in - and the pool deck overlooking the ocean is the place to spend the day. We didn't get to see as much of santa monica as I wanted since I could have spent the whole time at the hotel....I can't imagine anyone being disappointed staying there.

I would love to go to Shutters also. Kristen, how was the weather in April? could you actually use the pool then? What else is there to do there?

The weather was spotty - we went to Disneyland for 2 days before going to Shutters and it was chilly - but our Shutters days were warm enough to swim. I thought it would be warmer in LA in april - turns out it was warmer in Cleveland that week!

I definitely plan on returning someday - maybe if we ever do a trip without the kids.....
