hello!!
a long time ago without posting!!!!

i have a question about shutters,is it possible to take out your digital photos from the camera card to a CD-ROM or something like that? without printing photos.

do you know the price for that?

thank you!!!!!:wave2:

I've seen that service at Shutters listed on the Navigators for this past June. I'm not sure of the cost thought.

Yes shutters will do that for you. It is about $20 per CD. No matter if you put one picture onto the CD or fill it up.....

So fill you card(s) up before taking them down. I read that they will show you that they are on the CD before removing them from you memory card....(they may even make you actually erase your memory card)...

Just curious - why would they make you delete the photos from your memory card?

They shouldn't be able to do that. It's your property.

I did read that at least one of the Eastern ports had a place that did it cheaper.

I had to do it once at WDW and it took forever to do...only to find out I had reached the maximum number of pictures they would put on the CD. That inspired me to get a 256 MB card so that I wouldn't run out, nor would I waste time on my vacation making photo CDs!

i just did this on our july cruise and the cost was $14.95 and you do not have to erase your memory card.

From some of the previous posts it seems that there may be a perception that you are "made" to erase your memory card for some "sinister" reason. I'm sure that the person providing the copying service is reluctant to erase your card because they'd rather that you accidentally deleted a picture rather than them. I'm sure this eliminates potential misunderstandings.

I'm not sure why someone would care about deleting the memory since that's probably the reason they're copying the pictures to disc anyway...

tigger53: How many pictures were you able to put on the CD? When we were at WDW in June, I was told that you could only put 24 pictures on each CD.

If I recall correctly CDs hold about 600M of information. If so, a disc could max out at 24 pictures if each picture averaged 25MB (megabytes). Most of the digital pictures I take are around 1MB to yield reasonable resolution. I could theoretically store about 600 pictures on a disk. Of course resolution is a personal preference...

I would think that a service should be able to easily copy a 512MB card to a disc. There may be some other issues out there that I'm not aware of. Anyone?

Just don't wait until the end of your cruise to do this. At Shutters we were told it takes 24hrs to get pics on CD, so couldn't do it last full day and were running low on memory.

Also, could someone tell me: is picture 'quality" lost when you download to a CD as opposed to printing directly from the card?

Thank you.

P.S. In case anyone was wondering I did see digital camera memory cards in the gift shop on the ship but they cost about $100 - so if you're desparate they're there.

Digital picture quality is soley based on resolution. Whether the picture is on a memory card, or on a CD, should not affect the quality of the picture. The only thing that would affect the quality is if you save the pictures to the CD in a different format (i.e. BMP instead of JPG) and/or a different resolution.

So, keep this in mind. If you want to make larger photos (i.e. 8x10 or bigger), pick a little higher resolution on the camera. Of course, that means less picture on the memory stick!

Did I confus you yet?

You are correct, they do not force you to erase you memory card, but they may not be willing to do it for you to avoid a misunderstanding...

Sorry for any confusion....

I got about 100 pictures on my CD at WDW but I have a "first generation" digital camera (one sad megapixel) so even at high resolution my pictures aren't that big.
