Shrinking Tink: Trading Pounds for Pixie Dust

Hey guys! I am happy to report that I have lost a total of 12 lbs (as of last Tuesday) in a 4 week period!! Whoo hoo! I want to lose 18 more before the last day of August so I am really trying to eat well. However, I am getting a bit bored with grilled chicken and salad...argh! According to my dietician, I can now add some whole wheat products and fresh fruit but I really want to hit this goal and win the bet I have going on with my dad (means extra $$) so I am staying on the first phase of the diet. If I can lose the 18lbs I will add the whole wheat products and fruits and boy will I be ready! Hope all is well with you guys! I haven't seen many posts lately...I am betting money that you all are just as crazy busy as I am so it just seems impossible to post often! :) Good luck to all and keep in touch! Thanks for all your support! :thumbsup2

Congratulations!!!

Good for you, you're doing so well.:goodvibes

Been meaning to come on over and post this...

it's an excerpt from my pre-trip report, but it totally applies to here...

"This morning I trotted myself on over to the gym. Today is my new leaf. As in I'm turning one over. I'm not eating carp anymore. Not the fish, the acronym for...oh, you get it.

I'm done. I'm done preventing myself from losing the last five pounds with my self-sabotage eating habits. I'm done with thinking eating one more bite is okay when in all reality I'm full."

And that's pretty much it. I've stopped eating junk. I've started trying to eat healthier and eat less. Because we really don't "need" as much food as we think we do, and I'm working on recognizing my feeling of "full."

Which is harder than you think! But I'm doing well.

Oh, and whoever mentioned...did I read it here or somewhere else...about getting fat free cool whip and taking a couple of spoonfuls of it frozen as a treat, trust me, it works great. Tastes like vanilla soft serve to me without all the calories, so it helps satisfy my sweet tooth.:thumbsup2

Congratulations!! You are doing so well!

Based on our posts it looks like summer is keeping all of us busy, myself included. It's been a few weeks since I posted and I am slowly moving towards my goal.

The last week has been hard and I have been carb loading because of stress.

While I really like my diet program, I have still not gotten over the fact that I am an emotional eater and when I'm upset or stressed I crave carbs, lots of them! The good thing is I've maintained all of my workouts so despite my eating habits I've maintained my weight loss. Hopefully now that my stress has been relieved I will get back on my diet plan full steam and will drop some pounds fairly quickly again. Just 15 more pounds until I reach my next goal. :woohoo:

Hey all!

I've had a "Coming to My Senses" pow wow with myself about a lot of different things. Obviously one of them is getting in shape. Which has woefully fallen by the wayside. However, I'd made a committment to myself and I'm the only one losing out by not keeping it.

I've been making better food choices, with only a couple of minor slip-ups, for the past two weeks. I also realized I'm not quite in gym shape yet so I've been walking for a 1/2 hour each morning for the past few days and will continue tomorrow with the goal of moving it to the gym either this coming week or next, depending on my schedule.

The pounds are slowly dripping off by the ounce. While I'd love to hop on the scale tomorrow morning and see "145", slow and steady wins the race. Besides, I didn't gain all this weight overnight so I can't expect to lose it that way.

It's amazing how much better I feel (and sleep) when not shoveling carp into my mouth (NOfish - that would be one of the better things to be shoveling into my mouth)!

Speaking of fish. Well, I don't like it. To eat, anyway. Or as an activity, but that's besides the point. So, I miss out on all of those heart-healthy Omega-3's. So my therapist suggested a daily fish oil supplement, which I've been taking. You can take up to two, I think, a day and they do have a few calories, but it's worth it for the vitamins. And it helps keep you regular. Just an FYI. I've also been good about taking my women's multivitamin. I'm staying away from the "weight loss" vitamins as they have caffeine, which I didn't realize, and I'm trying to limit my caffeine intake.

I think that's all that's new for me. I hope everyone's having a good Friday! Stay cool!

Oh. And I'm going to try to check in on a daily/every-other-day basis. :goodvibes

Yikes! I realized that I keep going missing from this thread. I'm now down 47lbs! :cool1:

I have 17 more to go before I reach my first big goal. :cool1:

Honestly I just restrict my calories and fat intake. I buy a lot of low calorie foods and live on those. I found these really delicious sandwich rolls that are 100 calories for the whole roll! They don't taste like light bread either- you know that light airy almost nothing taste. It's real bread. They're made by Arnold. :thumbsup2 They were the highlight of my grocery shopping trip :rotfl:

So, I've FINALLY made it back to the gym. :cheer2:

However, unfortunately, they apparently don't believe in A/C before 7 a.m. It was positively muggy in there this morning at 5 a.m.! I'm not kidding when I say that I broke a sweat simply walking over to the treadmill! Blech. I hope it's not the trend.

I also tried one of those Low-Carb bagels from Dunkin' Donuts. GROSS. And TOTALLY high in points!!! (which I didn't know at the time). Not. Worth. It.

Ick.

Other than that, I'm still paying for my past mistakes but am physically feeling better now that I'm back in line.

How's everyone else doing?

:flower3:

That doesn't sound like it would be very appetizing lol. Anything low carb that I've tried was just plain GROSS. Yuck.

I'm thinking of just doing raw foods. However idk if I can give up my bread.

I like the Arnold bread products too. I use their light whole wheat bread. I think it's 40 calories a slice, high in fiber, and tastes pretty good.

What's your calorie intake for the day? I don't count calories but do a 3 meal, 2 snack, portion control, lots of fresh fruits and veggies plan. Yes, I know it's not a very catchy title, but it works. :goodvibes I think I average between 1200 and 1400 calories a day.

Here's a question for you that I still haven't wrapped my brain around yet....fat free vs. sugar free products...which is better for you? I've tried both and sometimes the sugar free stuff is "too" sweet from the splenda. What do you think?

I would go with fat free only because I do NOT like artificial sweeteners. After I read the book Skinny B**** it opened my eyes to a lot of things. As for my daily intake I try to stay between 1000 and 1200 calories a day. I also take chromium daily.

I wanna join! Count me in, fellow Tinks. Well, you could, except I am the only Tink and rest of you are imposters.

Anyway, I've been chunky since age 9. Before that I was a skinny kid. I've been packing an extra 50 pounds around for a couple of years now (8 years! ). I have a 6 month old son and lost 38 of the 40 pounds I gained during pregnancy. But I still need to drop 50+.

I'm 5'1" and weigh 172, current size 15. Not pretty on what is a small-boned frame.
So I'd like to be 120 or smaller.

Welcome!

So, can I just say, I showered at the gym this morning and if I could, I'd LIVE at the gym just based on water pressure alone!!

OH. MY.

It was a glorious shower! The pressure wasn't painfully but if they turned it up a notch or two it might be. (Though it is a bit much directly on the face.) It's like getting a light massage after your workout.

De.Light.Ful!

Tinkerbellarella~ I love showers like that. Hubby's grandparents house has a shower in their downstairs that feels like a massage.

We had a 2.5 hour flight this morning from WA to CA; I've been awake since 3:45 this morning and could use a nice cool shower and a nap.
Baby is sleeping right now so I suppose I should do my exercises. I have The 15 Minute Workout by Joan Pagano. It has four 15 minute workouts and even comes with a DVD. The book is hot pink; pretty cool. :thumbsup2

Anyway, as for a 'diet', I don't know what I want to do. I considered the special k thing, you know, eating cereal two meals a day then eating dinner? I did Atkins about 5 years ago and got down to a size 2/4 but gained 40 pounds right back within three months. My old doctor even put me on phentermine for a month and it didn't work. :confused3
South Beach doesn't work, neither did WW, and I really don't want to go back on Atkins.

Any suggestions?

I've never heard of this, I'll have to check this out.

I've never done anything but WW as it works for me. In addition to that, I'm trying to eat fewer processed foods and more natural foods. I'm doing my best to get in 6 glasses of water a day, 5-6 fruits and/or veggies a day and two servings of dairy. I'm also doing better about filling my plate in 4ths for my big meals - 1/4 protein rich meat/fish, 1/4 starch and 1/2 fruits and veggies. For me it's about controlling portion size and writing EVERYTHING down.

Things like Atkins and South Beach don't work for me based on the simple fact that as soon as I deny myself something, for even a short period of time, it increases my desire for that thing a hundred-fold.

I agree. It did work for me for awhile (well, Atkins, anyway) but I can't go back to that. I know that as soon as I do I'll start craving carbs. :cake:
I think I may try WW points. It sounds interesting!

I have to do #2 workout today. But I also need to put some hours in before baby wakes up.

Forgot to do this:
Start Date: Jul 30, 2008 (last time I weighed myself)
Real Name: Melissa
Sex: Female
Age: 28
Marital Status: Married 8 years, one 6 mo old son
Height: 5'1"
Weight: 175
Problem areas: Thighs, hips, bum, and belly/abs.
Diet Plan: WW Points and exercise (15 Minutes a Day by J. Pagano)
Overall Goal: Lose 55-60 pounds to be 115-120.

Yay!!! Down 2.2lbs this week!

I think it could've been more but I faltered towards the end of last week and then had my parents' cookout on Saturday. I wasn't TOO bad there but I certainly could've been better. There were these devilish little desserts: small pretzels with a melted Rolo and a pecan pressed on top. YES. As good (and terrible) as they sound!

I woke up with a nasty cold on Sunday and have been fighting it since. I've been fighting with my appetite too. Because I've felt so nasty I haven't been particularly hungry but I know I HAVE to eat. Finally feeling better today. I have to skip the gym tomorrow morning to be at work extra early, but I think I'll walk at lunch to make up for it.

How's everyone else doing?

It's been a quiet summer 'round these parts.
