Shrinking Tink: Trading Pounds for Pixie Dust

I'm sure I speak for the group when I say....sure!

Having another voice of encouragement is always good.

I do have to ask, what do you think of the NS food? I tried it a couple of years ago and didn't like it at all. In fact, I think I ended of giving most of it away to a co-worker. Hopefully it's gotten better.

I like some of it--some I don't. It all depends on what it is. I do a lot just be following the meal plan and sticking to a certain number of calories.

As for me, I lost another 2 lbs this week, so I'm slowly but surely shedding the pounds. I probably could have lost a little more, but Wednesday was my Mom's birthday and I treated her to high tea at a local tea shop. It consisted of 7 savory apps and then 7 sweets...talk about sugary overload. It was good, but since I've been cutting down on sugar in my diet, I had a major sugar rush after we left.:hyper:

I did my regular workouts the rest of the week and yesterday I took 2 group fitness classes back to back. By the end of the 2nd class, I was beat! So, today I'm taking it easy and trying to stay cool since it's in the 90's and humid.

My other goal for the day is to clean out the fridge. :( I'm sure I'll find some interesting stuff that got lost in the back, but I figure a clean fridge will help with my diet.

Completely random here, but I was watching Paula Deen this morning and she made a grilled tilapia and coconut mango rice that looked really good. I think I'm going to try and make it. I'll let you know how it turns out and do a calorie check for everyone as well.

2 pounds is great! The grilled tilapia sounds awesome!

Woo-hoo for you!!! :yay:

Woo-hoo for DS too but isn't that (one of) the most annoying things about men??!!

Yes it is annoying. I did let him know that it was not all about his effort just the factors that make it easier. He didn't argue but I know he cut more fat out of his diet than I since he ate so much more fat than I. And he exercised more than me too. But we all know that even if I had, he would have lost more than me. :lmao:

What did you think? I haven't been to Applebees but know we have one near us.

We loved it! First of all, I didn't have to cook or figure out points. We had the herbed chicken and potatoes and brocoli and the grilled chicken salad and the steak with portabella sauce potatoes and brocolli at our table and we each took a bit of all. That was my only red meat of the week and I was thrilled. We also wanted to try the soup but it was 101 degrees that day so we passed. We instead had the 3 point chocolate raspberry cake. YUMMO! We left full and felt like we had cheated although we had not.

And another Woo-Hoo for you! That's awesome!!

Tonight I am making philly steak sandwhiches. I went to the deli and got roast beef, lowfat. 2 points for 2 ounces. and sauteing it with onions, mushrooms, peppers, with just the fat in the meat in nonstick pan. Then putting a 1 point slice of provolone on it and putting it on a wheat hotdog bun for 1 point. 4 point hoagie!

Idea time...

Maybe at the one month birthday of this thread we can put our accumulated weight loss and add it to our name? That might be fun!

Not a bad idea. Although I don't know how much I'll have to show for it! As I work out, I gain muscle and I'm sort of stagnating...still. If I could just kick these last five pounds.

Ah well. This morning I upped my elliptical to 20 minutes and walked for ten. It was hard, but it felt good to accomplish it. It is so much easier on the joints than running, too, so I really like it much better.:thumbsup2

Don't worry, we can just post your hot, hard, body shot instead of your weight loss!!! You go girl! That is a HUGE accomplishment!:yay: :yay:

My hot, hard body! :rotfl2:

That just made me chuckle. I actually had a bit of a revelation this morning at the gym. They have mirrors all along one wall, and I actually don't have a full length mirror at home. I took a look at myself. And realized something.

I look pretty good.

Is my body exactly what I want it to be? Nah.

But is it nice to look at?::yes::

I have big thighs and hips, not only attributed to what I eat, but genetics, and having had my son. So we work with what we have.

I am trying very hard to get to the point where the number on the scale doesn't matter, and I'm happy with myself.

I think I took a good step.

THAT is a wonderful step!!!! Do that each and every day when you look in the mirror! Watch the weight fall off then!

I had to put on a bathing suit yesterday to go to the pool. I didn't feel quite so wonderful but i kept saying, 2 pounds less, 2 pounds better. Still sucked like a vacum hose pressed hard against the carpet.

My favorite thing about my bathing suit is that is one of those tankinis, but with a skirt bottom. Covers just enough of my upper thighs to make me feel okay walking around in it. Oh, and it has Mickey one it! :goodvibes

:cool1: Great job on upping your workout time. I have joint issues too and can't do high impact classes because of it. I figure once I get more of this weight off it will get a lot easier.

What I have found that helps a lot is adding a pool workout in 2 times a week. I was very intimidated at first, but now I really enjoy it and it's a great workout without the pressure on your knees. I don't know if your gym offers pool classes, but if they do I highly reccommend taking one. I know, it means getting in a bathing suit, but so is everyone else and once you're in the water, they cant' really see you anyway.:)

Another bonus...and I don't know if it's true or not, but someone told me that taking pool classes helps rid your body of toxins and you don't carry around as much water weight. Again, not sure if this is really true, but it sounds good to me.;)

Have a great week of workouts!

Well, I have good and bad news. The good news is that my gym is a small one that's part of my apartment complex, and therefore is FREE! I love free. :thumbsup2 The bad part, however, is that there is no pool. It's just a smaller area with 3 treadmills, 2 bikes, the elliptical, various weights etc. I really love going there, there's a consistent group of us that cross paths in the morning, and my town is in general, very friendly, so I like my work out neighbors! I would love to belong to a gym that had a pool, but keeping my budget in mind, I can't imagine paying just for that. Maybe I should check out our local Y and see if that has anything indoors. My nana has an inground she'll be opening in about a week, and I swear, that's always when I lose a lot of weight and get really skinny for my September trip. DS and I are like water rats in that pool, and we like to use, use, use it because it costs her a lot to run it. :goodvibes

After a brief (albeit HOT) hiatus/vacation, your girl Tink is back. And unfortunately no thinner but that's ok. I'm working on it. ;)

Hey Tinkerbellarella and everyone else,
I have followed you over here from your pre-tr (still a lurker because I am catching up but I will say Hi soon). I have struggled with my weight my whole life, i am in college and i can't remember the last time I weighed under 200 pounds. I started Weight Watchers in January (anybody smell a new years resolution?) and although i've lost about 17 pounds it is not nearly what I was hoping for after 6 months so I am hoping that joining this thread will hold me more accountable for what I do and I can actually get some of this weight off. Every one on here seems really nice so I think this will be really great.

Hi Sara! Welcome! I do WW as well (but online). It can be tough and the results are slow sometimes, and while everyone is different it's been the best way to lose weight for me.

Exercise is very important - especially weight training. I used to just do cardio and then my BF explained something very important to me: you'll burn more if you have more muscle on your body so it's crucial to do weight training AND cardio. And he was right (jerk - I hate it when they're right). I shed founds faster when my cardio was paired with weight training.

Keep your chin up and be positive!

I just happened to come upon this encouraging thread... the exact day I signed up at weight watchers.

Welcome Jennifer and congrats on WW AND your newest little one! We're all about encouragement. Well that and low-cal/point snacks. ;)

Hi all! :wave2: I followed Tinkerbellarella over here from a very funny post she made on a trip report I'm reading.
...
So I'm really looking forward to motiviation and support from this thread and learning tips on healthy snacks and eating. :)

I admit it. Sometimes, just sometimes, I can be funny. Other times...notsomuch.

Welcome!

I carry the point calculator around with me most times.:rotfl2: I guess that will get better.

LOL Believe me. Soon you'll be whizzing around the grocery store and barely glancing at items proclaiming, "Two points per serving, six points per serving, 4 points per serving!" :rotfl:

I lost 2 pounds!
...
My DS16 lost 5 pounds

Yay! Congratulations!

We celebrated with a trip to Applebees for the WW menu!

How did you like it? I'm not a fan. But, then again, I'm not really an Applebee's fan in general.

I was proud of myself yesterday. I did the elliptical trainer for 10 minutes. I know that doesn't sound like an accomplishment, but it is for me. When I just started working out again, I could barely do three. I just go slow, take my time, and finish up with a nice walk on the treadmill and my weights.

Why is there no clapping Skittle?

Can I join in with all of you?

Hey there! :wave2: Of COURSE you can!

I saw the picture from DIsneyworld (visit my PTR and you can see the picture) and realized, "Man, I look bad."

UGH. I HATE that.

Adding to that that I had GERD, I really needed to change things.

A friend has this. It's tough, I know. There are many things she misses that she simply can't eat any more. Believe it or not, it makes weight loss a little tougher.

My biggest mistake was to return to drinking soft drinks and visiting McDonalds.

Aaaah. Yes. McDonald's can be the devil. With no trans fats.

As for me, I lost another 2 lbs this week, so I'm slowly but surely shedding the pounds.

:cool1:

Does that guy remind anyone else of Spot from the old 7-UP commercials?

I'm taking it easy and trying to stay cool since it's in the 90's and humid.

I was outside yesterday. Swimming through the air to my car. The temperature read 103.

My cats are staging a full-scale revolt today if I don't come home and shave them down to the skin. I always wanted a hairless cat.

This sounds AWESOME!

Maybe at the one month birthday of this thread we can put our accumulated weight loss and add it to our name? That might be fun!

I actually intended to update everyone on the thread's progress last Friday, but didn't make it to the 'puter to do so. So I was going to do it this Friday.

I'm sort of stagnating...still.

You are NOT stagnating. Or stagnant. Or any other word that means the same thing. Stagnant implies stinky. You have......plateued. It makes you sound so much more...well...like Arizona. But I mean that in a good way.

I actually had a bit of a revelation this morning at the gym. They have mirrors all along one wall, and I actually don't have a full length mirror at home. I took a look at myself. And realized something.

I think I took a good step.

I think you took a HUMONGOUSLY WONDERFULLY GREAT (and eleventy other words that mean the same thing) step.

:flower2: For you.

Still sucked like a vacum hose pressed hard against the carpet.

I think I need to work this into conversation today.

Oh, and it has Mickey one it! :goodvibes

Mouse ears are slimming.

:What I have found that helps a lot is adding a pool workout in 2 times a week.

I LOVE swimming. My parents are readying their inground pool and I CAN'T WAIT!!! :boat: Only less boat.

So I have been missing for a bit but I'm back! I have been eating tons of fruits and semi veggies (I only like corn, raw carrots, and spinach!). I have found that Smart Balance spray has 0 calories in 5 sprays. I put that on my corn instead of butter and it tastes DELISH!

Rocked the elliptical again this morning, but only 15 minutes this time. Two days in a row was a bit much, but sooooo much better than running. I'm not even sore, truthfully. Rounded it off with 20 minutes on the treadmill, and I feel good. I'm getting to the point where I feel weird if I don't go to the gym in the morning. What a little adrenaline junkie I've turned into.:lmao:

Looks like the gangs all here. Welcome back Tink...we missed ya!

I've got some good news to share....I hit the 20lb mark! Now, according to my ticker, only 74lbs more to go. I said to a friend today, I feel like the tortise and the hare...slowly but surely I will win this race.

I also saw something in this month's issue of Family Cirlce that I thought I would share. It's part of their walking program.

To burn 300 Calories:
* Walk for 5 minutes at a moderate pace on a flat surface...if you're on a treadmill set the incline at 1 and the pace at 2.5
*For 3 minutes walk briskly, pumping your arms...treadmill: 1% incline, 4.5 pace
*1 minute: walk at normal pace....treadmill: 1% incline, 2.5 pace
*1 minute: Take longer strides than normal, slowing your pace...treadmill: 1% incline, 2 mph
*15 minutes: repeat steps 2-4
* 5 minutes: Cool down by walking at a moderate pace...treadmill: 1% incline, 2.5 pace

Total time: 30 minutes

There are also ones for burning 400 and 500 calories...let me know if you're interested in them and is so I will post them too.

Hey all! Haven't been around much lately...kind of baffled by my current diet routine. I was doing so good...a steady loss...then "BOOM" I gain 3 lbs. out of the blue. I have faithfully counted my WW pts ( tho I have slipped in a glass of vino or margarita, once in awhile) and have been doing the Leslie Sansone..3 mile walk...5-6 days per week. Plus I have been doing lots of yard work and sweating my buns off....I wish!
Oh well....guess I gotta quit crying in my wine glass (I hate beer..hehehe). I still have over 3 months before our WDW trip...so it's back to basics and more H2O, I guess!

By the way, I thought of you all yesterday, when I placed an online order at Disney.com...for some cute cheap T shirts and flipflops. I ordered a Tinkerbell T-shirt. They have a great sale right now, plus you can get an add'l 15% off if you use your Disney Rewards card.

Everyone one, stay cool and happy healthy eating!:thumbsup2

PS....my baby boy turned 21 years old today!!!! WooHoo!

I've been having so much fun reading this thread! I wonder if you all wouldn't mind if I joined you? I see some people have similar goals to what I have for myself, too, which sounds nice!

I started Weight Watchers Online on Wednesday. I am only doing the free trial and then I'm going solo from there. I have the formula for calculating points and activity points, so I know I can do it. Mainly I typed in the things I eat regularly and got some good ideas after putzing for several hours regarding what a 25 point day looks like. It doesn't look like much! The activity points will be helpful, though, and I have figured that if I do an activity, I will treat myself to an extra 100 calories or so for when I'm flying solo to make it a little easier.

Today I made a container with a bunch of 100-130 calorie snacks. I bought containers and packaged my own instead of paying for the 100 calorie marketing scheme. I'm going to put the container in my car, since I spend a lot of time going back and forth, and I know that I'm allowed one or two 100 calorie treats, one piece of fruit, and one container of raisin-nut trail mix per day. I really need to know what I'm allowed otherwise my mind wanders off and finds other things to eat. I think that's how my problem got started in the first place.

Sorry, I'm a rambler. If you don't like rambling, ignore me. If you do, enjoy the random rambles from me!

Anyway, about me:

Real Name: Ashley
Sex: Female
Age: 26
Marital Status: Happily in love, but not yet married.
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 160ish (I fluctuate, some days are great in the 150s, some days I just don't weigh myself.)
Problem areas: Mainly the midsection (fondly named Herman), although my arms need some work too. I don't think my thighs are shrinkable as they're quite muscular. Mervyn and Harvey are the two guys that chill out on my chest, and I wouldn't mind if they were to lose weight, either.
Current WW Points: 25
10% Goal: 16 lbs (putting me at a fluctuating 144) I would like to accomplish this goal by the end of July. I would like to accomplish it by next weekend, but that's not really realistic, now, is it?
Overall Goal: 20-25 lbs (I need to gauge whether 25 is doable, but would be incredibly happy if it is!)

Aside from WW, I aim to do two workouts/day, since I'm a teacher and off for the summer with the exception of 15 hours/week. I am doing strength training 2 days/week, and any variation of cardio on the other days. I am also going to work on riding my bike or walking for any adventures less than 5 miles.

So, that's me in a nutshell. (Insert a little Austin Powers... Wow! I don't usually do movie references -- I usually just fall asleep during movies!)

Keep looking up, the scales are going down!!!
Ashley

Hey guys! Sorry I have been Missing In Action lately...it's been crazy around here. I wrapped up my last week of school and went straight to directing our church's summer day camp with 40 kiddos per day! On top of that, I had a terrible stomach bug...argh...and then my 3 yr. old son got it...argh argh. Things have gotten somewhat back to normal with the exception that my dh started painting our house (with a color we both "thought" we liked) and after painting nearly the whole two story house, we both hated it and are in the process of repainting it. Mind you, we live in south Alabama and it is around 92 degrees during the day and only a bit cooler in the evenings....needless to say, I have had little time for my fave pastime of DIS. I have checked in and read a few times but not had time to post.

Now that my excuses and apologies are out of the way, I want to update you all on my diet progress. In the last week, I have begun a new diet all together. I went to a medical doctor and began a weight loss program with him. I am on a low cal diet of 1000-1200 per day and eat five small meals per day made up of mostly protein and veggies. This portion of the diet last two weeks and then I begin adding in some fruits and whole wheat bread and the like. I keep telling myself that "I can do anything for two weeks!" The dr. explained that by eating smaller portions more often, my blood sugar levels stay regular and then my body doesn't get hungry and doesn't go into "fat saving mode" to survive. Anyways, I am on a prescription fiber pill with chromium and a potassium supplement and vitamin. I am also on a prescription diet drug called phentermine. I'm sure some of you have heard of it if you've been in diet circles long enough. It has only been two days since I began this diet but so far so good. With all the fiber, veggies and protein I have to make myself eat the five times I have to eat. Plus the meds make me full feeling. The only side effects of the phentermine is a little nervousness and dry mouth. When I officially weighed at the dr., I was 200 lbs. on the dot. I will be weighing and meeting with the nutrionist each week so I will keep you posted as I weigh in.

I read most of the posts that I missed and it sounds like alot of you are doing great on your diets!! :) AWESOME! Keep it up!! I will post as I can this summer but I will keeping my eye on the posts and cheering for us all to meet our goals!! :cool1:

Has anyone read Skinny B****? It was soooo good and so true. And they mentioned my favorite cookies..Uncle Eddies! Besides having NO animal byproducts in them they are totally natural...100% organic and delish. My favorites are oatmeal raisin, but peanut butter choco chip are a close second lol.

I have also taken up a serious affection for freeze dried fruit. I had pears yesterday that were sooooo good. They tasted like candy. I almost felt guilty eating them!

Hi guys,

I was -2lbs at the Jenny Craig weigh-in today! :woohoo: Not trying to brag... just knew you guys would appreciate it. Thanks for the encouragement and tips!

Hey Tink ,
I do the WW online too, I think it pretty easy to do and to keep up with. I really like it.
I know how important exercose is and I know that is why I haven't lost too much weight yet because I just can't seem to get motivated to workout. I have heard about that before that you need to do weight training and cardio and that makes sense. Thanks.
