Shrine Mass/ Taxi questions

I've checked the Shrine's website, and it says the weekend Mass schedule is as follows: Sat: 6 p.m. Sun: 7:30, 9:30, 11:30 a.m.; 6 p.m. Anyone know if this is current?

I, like some others on this board, am VERY inexperienced at taxis. Just have had no need for them before.

Are there normally taxis waiting around at the resorts (namely Pop Century) or do you need to call them?

Anyone know the approximate fare from the Pop to the Shrine? How much do you tip a taxi driver? I'm guessing arounde 15%, but I don't know if that's even in the ballpark.

How much time should I allow to arrive in plenty of time, but not too early? I have no idea how far this is from WDW.... looking at the maps, it looks fairly close, but looks are deceiving.

Thanks in advance!!!

We were just there this past week, and that schedule is current. Since we rent a car, I don't know how much taxi fare would be. I know that when we were recently in Chicago, we simply walked out of our hotel or whatever museum we were visiting, and there were taxis available for hire waiting outside. We never had to call. I don't remember seeing many taxis outside the Disney resorts, ever, but, I am sure that they would be able to call one for you from the desk inside the resort you are staying. We generall tipped about 20% or so, but don't know what the official recommendation is.

There is usually always cabs outside of each resort. If there isn't they can call one for you.

I stayed at CR and spent $25 (one way) taking the taxi to mass. That was last May. The taxi is cheaper from POP. Not to worry, many taxi cabs are ready and waiting for a call from the doormen.

Getting back to the price. I took the cab to mass and paid $25. So after mass I took the cab to dtd and took the bus back to CR and only spent $12. You may want to consider this to save some money. The only problem is that you will have a longer commute. There are plenty of cabs in DtD also.

I thought about taking a cab from DTD-- if we can plan that right, timewise, that sounds like a better option.

Is there a particular Mass that anyone has an opinion of? In other words, is there a Mass that's less crowded, etc., or are they all about the same? I'm thinking of either early Sunday, or possibly the Sunday evening service.

We have gone to the 7:30,9:30 and the 11:30 masses. Memorial Day weekend, the church was pretty full at the 9:30 mass. The least crowded was the 7:30, which we attended All Saints day last fall. This is a huge church. I estimate that two sections off the sides of the main altar would hold as many people as our parish church, which I think holds about 250-300 or so, and this is only a small fraction of the entire church.

Based on my limited exposure, I would guess the 9:30 mass is the most attended, but, I could be wrong, because Memorial day could just have been more crowded than Halloween time last fall.

We've taken taxis to the Shrine from Pop, All Star Sports and BWV and each time was approx $15-17 each way. There are usually taxis waiting outside of the resort. We have had trouble with them returning to pick us up after mass, so be sure you have the taxi's phone # with you. I'd say 15 minutes is plenty of time to get there.

Thanks, everyone for all of this great information! I hope it's helpful for someone else, too. :thumbsup2
