We are trying to decide if we will be going to Universal or not this trip- would love to hear opinions on the 4-D Shrek show- is it like HISTA??
Thanks!!

No, it's better. First of all, it is entirely animated so you get lost in that and the 4-D gags don't seems so forced. The effects are newer and the entire theater seems to rumble at one point. If you love Shrek, you'll love this show. We ventured off Disney property for this attraction alone and it was worth it. The Shrek 4-D show is excellent and the rest of the park reminds you how great Disney really is :rotfl:

We Loved it with a capital L. Its definitely worth going to Universal. My daughter is four and she had a blast there.

It was the best! I loved it so much! It's a lot better than 3-D movies so I suggest going to Universal and seeing Shrek 4-D.

it's as soon as you get in the park so of course everyone startes right there but get in line and just enjoy it may look long but a huuuge amount of people get in at 1 showing, after shreck is usually at the end for pictures outside across the lane.. very cute,,

We LOVE Shrek, I am really looking forward to this. I would like to get my picture with Shrek (I'm only 37 hee, hee,) hope this is possible.

Very awesome show, not to be missed. Even the preshow is cute. BUT don't stop there. There is SO much to do and see...fun for all ages. I don't know how anyone could not LOVE Universal or IOA!

I LOVE SHREK, its more of an obsession, like when you wake up at 5am just to buy the DVD boxed set to watch shrek 2 the first day it comes out BEFORE WORK. :rotfl2:
Still cant believe I did that...

Ok, we are going to Universal, can we do both parks in a day and a half or do we need two full days? or just one?? It's three adults and 2 kids (10 and 12) but the 10 year old is in a wheelchair soooo it limits some stuff.

Is there a way for me to meet Shrek, Donkey, Fiona????

You will love Universal and Islands of Adventure, both great parks and a lot to do for kids your age. If you have never been there, you will need at least a day and a half to take it all in. They have Express Pass which is their version of FAst Pass, use it for the big rides and attractions if the parks are crowded when you go. Most of the rides and attractions are wheelchair friendly and he can ride as long as he can transfer or you can help him transfer to a seat. A few rides like at Disney you can board with him in his wheelchair too.. Hope you have a great time at Universal Orlando!!... :sunny:

Shrek and Fiona are often out on the street behind the Shrek 4-D attraction exit. Have not ever seen Donkey out at a character greet, but have seen Shrek and Fiona many times...enjoy... :sunny:

Just saw it AGAIN last week. LOVE it. Just the preshow is better than HISTK.

There are so many jokes in the preshow alone that you have to see it twice to take it all in. We actually bought the movie after seeing it in 04 -- it is THAT good, you can watch it in 2D at home and enjoy it.

I will add that my DS5 had to leave because he hates loud sounds in general, but DS3 loved it. Also my mother, age 68, sat inthe staionary seat in front due to her bad back.

Not sure if I misread your post, but I don't know if I woudl pay park admission just for one ride, no matter how good. We love Universal Studios, but we did everythign there, form Jimmy Neutron and Nick Studios and Barney and Animal Planet for the kids, to Mummy, Back to theFuture and Jaws for the adults.

Yes, we do it every year. He is always haging out where you exit the ride, especialy in the morning, and unlike WDW there are usually no lines to meet characters, especially in the morning.

Question-

Is either of the Universal parks worth is for a 4 year old?? Thanks!

Stay on-site at Universal and experience all day hotel express access and wonder why you ever went to Disney! :3dglasses

We just returned with our DS3 and DS5. In 2004 they were 2 and 4 and they loved it both times.

It depends on what you mean by "worth it" -- if you are looking for a park like the Magic Kingdom, with 20 rides for the preschool set, then no.

If you are wondering if a 4 year old can have a great day at Universal, then yes. Would your 4 year old enjoy meeting superheros like Spiderman and Captain America, or Shrek, or the Rugrats, or Curious George, or Dr. Seuss characters or Barney?

My preschoolers love these parks, and they are close enough together that, if you are JUST going to be focused on preschool-appropriate rides, you can easily do both in one day. We spent 3 days there this year (with 6 at WDW and one at Sea World).

I also agree with motherfletcher's comments about FOTL. In 2004 we stayed at the Hard Rock, and could walk to the parks in under 10 minutes, getting ushered to the front of the line at every ride. Wonderful!

This year we stayed offsite in Kissimee, but we had no trouble driving to the Universal parks. The boys loved the people movers that take you from your car to the parks, and they loved the rock and roll piped in the whole walk.

First we loved Shrek. We were still cracking up on our way out

As far as stuff for little ones. We havent gone to the IOA side yet but the regular side does have the ET ride, Barney show, Fievels Playland (which I think is where they also have a water section with dumping buckets etc.)..

Yes you are allowed to use the express plus during the day that you checkout. The room key is valid from the day you check in until midnight the day you check out.

We loved Shrek 4D!!! It was the highlight of our day at Universal!!! My dd and I got our picture taken with Shrek at the beginning of Rodeo Drive. We saw him in several different spots throughout the day.

We were walking past the Shrek theatre intending to go later on in the day, and lo and behold Shrek came for pictures before they opened the door. I got a picture of DH and Shrek! Let's just say he's older than you. :teeth:
