I was a late addition to my DCuz's trip last month. They had a table for 5 at the Castle for dinner and tried in vain for over a month to get the number changed to 6, but were always told "no." I showed up with them and one DCuz was just not going to go to dinner if I couldn't be seated, but it never came to that. At the podium we were told "no problem." This was an 8 PM ADR.

Is that typically the outcome? A DF may join us next week and I have an ADR for 3 at Le Cellier. If/when we find out if she's coming, I'll try to change the ADR, but do we give it a try any way?

I was able to be added on at the podium at Le Cellier before. My aunt and cousin made their ADRs before I decided to go along, so we asked and it worked out. (I was fully prepared to go off by myself for lunch if they couldn't add me in, though.) Asking never hurts.

No that is typically not what happens. They more often than not will refuse to seat the extra person. The restaurants are booked based on the number of people allowed by the fire code. Many restaruants overbook by appox 20% knowing that people will not show up. In the case of CRT since it is prepaid I highly doubt that they overbook.

I would not count on being able to just bring an extra person along. In your case it worked probably because it was late in the evening and the booking was for 5 which must be seated at a 6 topper table. If you tried to bring a 5th to a ressie for 4 it never would have happened.

You could try with Le Cellier- going from 3 to 4 means you may be seated at the same size table. But you should have a backup plan in case they won't allow you to keep the ADR with an extra person.

I think it makes a difference in the number of people, as a PP said. Changing 3 to 4 would be the same table, so not a problem, whereas changing 2 to 3 would require a different table.

I think it can't hurt to ask at the podium. It is harder to say "no" to a person who is standing in front of you!

You might also try asking the concierge at your hotel to help (if staying on property). They call the restaurant directly, as opposed to the cebtral dining number.

Thanks. Last month, I really was so sure that I would be turned away, but wasn't. It was a lovely meal. I don't yet know if my DF will be coming next Sunday, but we will ask if she does. We are staying at AKV, so yes, I'll try asking at concierge if she does come.

I would think that as long as you add a person and it doesn't change the size of a table- like changing 1 to 2, 3-4 or 5-6, you'd be fine. If it would require a bigger table, then you might have a harder time.

Just general advice: this is a risky move at any venue that requires prepayment or a deposit. Choosing not to go to dinner = last-minute cancellation = no refund or credit of any advance payment.

Like someone else said I really think it depends on the resturant and who is seating you. Just as when you call disney you may never get the same answer twice!!

How about going from 1 to 2? I might have one of my nieces or nephew with me .
