Show photo ID when using DDE card?

Sorry if this has already been discussed. We just returned from WDW and I was surprised that we didn't need to show photo ID when using our DDE card. Last trip, we had to show our ID almost every time. I'm just wondering if they can scan these new cards somehow to prove who we are. I tried to give 2 restaurants my photo ID and both places stated they don't need to see it. Just curious if anyone knows.

Most places didn't ask for my photo ID, so I got used to not showing it. Then on our last morning at Kona Cafe, my hubby and kids went back to the room so I could go look in the gift shop and he took my license with him. Our waitress was extremely rude to me when I explained the situation. I told her we were staying there at the Poly (I was even paying with my room key so I guess she could have verified that) , had my AP with me, and I explained that I could stop by with it after. She was so rude about the whole thing I decided that fine, no 20% off my bill, then guess who wouldn't be getting a tip? She probably read that thought on my head because she came back in a few minutes saying that it was ok and I could get the discount....and of course, she was sweet as pineapple then! So I guess the moral of the story is to have the id with you! P.S. Yes I did tip her

I've never been asked for an ID...I'm thinking it's because I always pay with a credit card that matches the name on the DDE card.

TJA - Did you pay with a credit card? I've been wondering about this, because I do not carry my ID into the park. I had one mishap, so that cured me of carrying my ID into Disney.

Wow travelitis that's really risky....
I see in your signature that you have AP's as do my hubby and myself and so many times the biometric thing has issues with our fingers and we are asked to show id. I'm not sure what they do if you can't produce one at the ticket counter. :confused3

Anyhow, most times we were not asked to show id with our DDE card on our last trip (just got home last week) but there were a few times that we were asked so I carry my license just in case and my hubby has a card in his name and I have one in my name.

In Jan, we only had a letter (we had not received the card before our trip) and were never asked to show id. We paid for most of meals with a credit card so the name matched.

It would never occur to me to enter the park without my ID (all I ever carry in, actually are my room key, DDE card, some cash, a credit card, AP and my ID.) Then again, I've got a face that gets carded for buying milk, so, what are you going to do.

We paid cash for every meal. That is why I was surprised nobody wanted to see ID. In fact, some places didn't even take our DDE card -- they just looked at it and took the discount off our bill.
