what is that? I love it.

what is that? I love it.[/QUOTE]

kind of freaky huh:lmao: it's a barrel cactus that i inverted after i changed it to b&w. weird cause i like the symmetry of the thorns ( or what ever the proper term for the prickers is) but didn't care for it in normal colors nor normal b&w but iit looks " different" inverted

edited cause the photo came up again and then i messed up the quote..sorry

Today I got back a roll of b/w film I took on my recent trip to WDW... honest to goodness 400-speed 35mm film. ;)

Scanning takes away some of the contrast and "pop" of the actual prints (hopefully a true negative scanner will help with that) but here's a couple...

Honest to goodness B&W film! I bow to you, Sir! :)

When I switched to digital (late 2001) and sold my 35mm equipment I kept one old manual SLR in case I ever wanted to do some B&W work, but ended up doing it all in digital.

It just isn't the same.

Thanks :) - there really is a difference. It's a shame that I couldn't get slightly better scans (I do love my scanner though, honest!) - I'm all the more anxious to pick up a true negative scanner now. The actual prints are really nice, IMHO, sharp and contrasty. I'm very happy with how they turned out and I only wish I'd taken more!

That's one thing that we don't get with digital any more - the excitement of opening up the freshly developed film, and the happiness when you see your actual pictures for the first time and you're satisfied with the results! (Of course, there's almost some clunkers, too...)

The dynamic range really is noticeably more with the b/w film. Next time I pull out the 35mm, I'm going to take some photos with the film camera and the DSLR, both in the same location using the same lens (probably on a tripod) to get a side-by-side comparison of just how much is lost with color. The Tomorrowland shot I posted certainly had detail in areas that would have been lost with color.

Here's some Big Thunder Mountain ones...

I've got 2-3 more rolls of 400-speed b/w and a 3200-speed roll... I'll have to do something with those before long!

could you explain what you did here? i can't really see the background all that well by the lion(?) is a cutie!

I scanned in both b&w negatives.

Using the lion as the backround I layered the cutout of Gabby on to a blank space in the backround.

Then I painted in her face paint (it had worn off)

I'm new to photoshop. Is there other ways to do it? I'm working on another version with the lion bigger.

Thank you.

Very pretty jann! I particularly like the second one--her hair looks all wispy, and the slightly blown highlights there give it a nice glow. That mischievous grin in the third is awfully cute though.:)

GabbyMom, I wish your picture showed up larger. I can't really see the details, but the little costumed lion is sure a cutie.

Here are a couple I took of my new neice yesterday.

Jann, AWESOME photos. She is beautiful and you certainly have a way of capturing her on camera. Well done!!!

thanks jen and kyle...i think:confused: i used virtual photographer glamor to make #2 b&w which is pretty birght (or the diffuse glow on alien skin )and i liked the way it did the highlights on her face but it did blow out the hair .. i wouldn't have minded it lightening it due to it being so similar to the background color but not that much. i have to tweak it more to see how i can adjust that.

and niece is so cute, you can almost smell that sweet baby smell!

Here are couple I have...

Tower of Terror, DL: Adjusted the levels, lowered the saturation level, then mask half in B&W and Sepia.
