Show Me the Cupcakes!!!

Boardwalk Bakery this week did have the special plastic containers. Some of the icing got crushed, but nothing like that picture at all.

On Friday I got one of the cupcakes from the Caandy Corner or whatever its called at Downtown Disney. I chose the White Christmas tree one and it was delicious

I also tried the marbel cupcake at starring rolls cafe in hollywood studios and it was the bomb--so good.

Raspberry Filled Cupcakes from Cookes of Dublin. These were fantastic!!

So - we are all obviously cupcake obsessed. My DH just doesn't get it. He's like, "Why not just have cake? Why a CUPcake?"

I had an answer for him, but I was curious what you guys would say. Is it the ratio of icing to cake? Is it like having your own personal cake that you don't have to share with anyone?

What's the appeal to you? :)

I tend to like mini cupcakes to have some variety - something you don't get with a slice of cake.

That said, I've been extremely disappointed with Disney's cupcakes. Like most food there, they have a manufactured taste. The icing is like paste and the cake is generally dry.

Bear in mind that I'm spoiled, though. There's a place on the other side of Orlando called Sweet! by Good Golly Miss Holly (http://sweetbyholly.com/index2.php).

She won Cupcake Wars twice, and it shows when you bite into one of her cupcakes. They're phenomenal. I've yet to find any other baker than can hold a candle to these cupcakes.

I doubt most visitors to Disney World would make the trip to the other side of Orange County to try these cupcakes, so you're missing out on them.

Damn. Now I want some of those cupcakes.

Hmm...the appeal...

Well for one, they are usually VERY pretty to look at...you see ALL of the frosting at once, whereas when you look at a whole cake (uncut), you can't really tell how much frosting there is on the top, or between layers...or if it even is a layer cake.

As a previous poster said, I also like mini cupcakes for variety. Then I can have more than one kind and not waste any.

It's definitely not the sharing thing...I usually share large cupcakes with my boys!

The last couple times we've gotten them I don't remember if they were the clear plastic or the cardboard, but whatever container it was the cupcakes didn't stand up in them (the icing is too tall) - they had to be laid on their side and kind of became the mess that the PP posted a picture of.

I don't mean to state the obvious, but that icing will definitely melt off if it gets warm at all. Easy to happen in a hot locker or bag. It may not have been the container.

I had a bad experience at Starring Roles in HS. First off the guy didn't know which cupcake was red velvet & I had to show him. I didn't even eat more than 2 bites of it & was VERY disappointed. I make MUCH better cupcakes at home! It was dry & tastleless. I don't know how they sell so many. :confused3

So yesterday, I FINALLY got ahold of a chocolate caramel cupcake from the Karamell-Kuche. OMG, I want to know what that frosting is made of because it was perfect! The perfect flavor and sweetness and the caramel was AMAZING. The cake was just fine, but to me the cake is like the cookie part of an oreo :D.

It's in the Germany pavilion at Epcot (where the old porcelain and glass shop used to be). It was a chocolate cupcake, no filling because there's a ton of icing :D. SSOOOOOOOOOO yummy :D. BTW, the caramel was to die for!

I Just found this thread and shamelessly bumping it for MORE!!

Thanks for the review. We passed on this cupcake, because it didn't look all that special. You've convinced me to try it.

Anyone try the guava cream cheese cupcake at sunshine seasons? or anyone know if it is still available there?

I wanted to thank everyone who posted pictures and talked about the Butterfinger Cupcake from Starring Rolls. We were there in January and were looking for a place to have breakfast in DHS, we had just walked past Starring Rolls in which I told DH that we should eat there. I was so excited because I got the infamous Butterfinger Cupcake and it was AMAZING!!! :cloud9:. I had to share it with my DD10 and DD8 because it was so big...both DDs loved it too. When we return at the end of Aug/beginning of Sept we are planning on having breakfast on both of our DHS days and this time around I plan on trying both the chocolate/peanut butter cupcake and the marble cupcake :goodvibes.

Just found and read through this whole thread today and I must say I really need one of those Strawberry cupcakes at the Contempo Cafe ASAP! Unfortunately it will have to wait until my next trip and who knows when that will be...

I had the Butterfinger one from Starring Rolls and it was really good, there was a ton of icing but IMO it wasn't too sickenly sweet, I ate about alf of it the first day and DH finished it off a couple days later.

I will say that the boxes they had were not big enough for the cupcake and I had to take mine in a white bag, luckily MIL was with us and had a scooter so we just put it in the front basket with our bottled water tote/cooler and it made it without too much damage.

Skip the s'mores cupcake at WL Roaring Forks it was terrible.

I agree about the boxes. My DH & I picked up a red velvet & butterfinger cupcake at SR. The cashier gave us one box for both of them. They were pretty messed up, when we got home. (We bought them on our last day, & live an hour away. It wasn't like they had been abused in transport.) They really need to find a better container, because so many people get them to-go.

We both preferred the red velvet. I'm a sugar addict, & even I thought the icing for the butterfinger cupcake was too sweet. My DH didn't care for it at all.
