Show me (or tell me) about your pin collection

Do you have a pin collection?

Yes. I have a lanyard full...so not a ton

How did you get started in pin trading?

We bought a starter kit for my sons birthday in 2010 for our May Disney trip. He got into it right away and by the 2nd day of our trip the whole family had a lanyard.

Do you collect just one type of pin or different kinds of pins?

I buy one at each resort we stay at, each year we go, and I collect Mickey heads. I like all of the different Mickey heads.....my fave is a sparkly pink one. I also get one if we are there at a special time of year IE Christmas. This year I hope to get a MNSSHP pin :)

Do you buy 2 of each pin in order to keep one or do you just buy to trade?

No. I hardly trade. I will trade if I do a mystery pack and get one I don't care for....but besides that all the pins I buy are ones that I really want.

Here's my pin collection. I think you should be able to click them to get to the larger, original photos. I collect basically anything I like the look of. I got started on my honeymoon in Disneyland. I really like trading in the parks, as you can find some really cool stuff that way, but you REALLY have to be careful as there are a lot of fake pins on cast member lanyards, and when you stick them up next to your real pins they stick out like a sore thumb. Plus it's disappointing to spend money getting nice pins to trade, and then getting junk in return. I'm bringing far fewer pins to trade on our upcoming trip than I did for the last trip for this reason.

Anyway, on to the pictures!

Love pin trading :earsboy: Got into it back in 2001 when my sis and I went during 100 years of magic. I don't have a ton, just a couple of lanyards, mostly characters or attractions I like, just a little bit of this and a little bit of that. It's just a fun way to talk to people, can't tell you how many times I've been stopped by someone because they like my pins :thumbsup2 Funniest thing is my sis and I have one of those leave a legacy tiles in EPCOT and you can totally see my pin lanyard in the picture :rotfl2:

I just started Pin trading during our last trip to WDW- January 2012. I LOVE it!! I don't collect anything in particular, just anything that I like or means something to me. I tend to go for Stitch and Tinkerbell the most. My husband collects Star Wars pins only.

I learned that I don't really trade pins that I buy because I want them. I buy the "mystery packs" where you get 2 random pins in a package, they are less expensive that way and then I am not attached to them. Also buying the theme sets of 5-6 pins makes each pin cheaper and then you can trade them. I don't like to trade the full price pins. A lot of people buy pin lots on ebay to trade, but you have to be really careful because there are a lot of fake ones out there!

Trading is so much fun- I trade with cast members mostly because you have the most control over the trade- you pick what you want from what they have, and then you trade them any pin you have in good condition. And I like getting the hidden mickey pins from them. I have done a couple of trades with other guests when they approached me. It is such a great way to get to chat with the Cast Members. some are kind of blase about it but most are really into it and fun! I just love looking to see which ones cast members have and trying to track down a good find!

I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but 2 great websites for pin trading info are:

Official Disney Pin Trading page

and

Pin Pics

Also, the kiosks where they sell pins in the parks have pin binders you can look at and see pictures of the different hidden mickey collection pins. Some places also have awesome "pin boards" which are just big corkboards full of pins- so fun to browse! I know there was one outside of the shop in the entrance area of AK when we were there.

Disney's Pin Traders, the big pin shop in DTD is fantastic. Also the Pin Trading spot in front of the Fountain of Nations is cool- they have tables set out for trading among guests, and we saw some really amazing collections there.

Here is my collection so far:

For the most part, the ones on the left are ones I purchased and the ones on the right are ones I traded for.

Have fun!!

I'm more of a pin collector than a trader, I just can't let them go. After 8 years of visiting WDW when I resisted the pins, I cracked and bought some during a truely awesome trip and now I'm addicted, I can't resist them. DD started collecting on her last trip, she wants to trade so next time we will be trading too.

Yes I have a pin collection.

I purchase I don't really trade. I have traded once or twice.

Majority of my collection are Limited Edition pins. Most of them are rides from Walt Disney World especially rides that are gone, Horizons, If you had Wings, etc. The character I have the most of is Tinkerbell. Also Belle (I'm a Librarian) and Cinderella. Love any pin that's recalls the old Disney E-tickets.:cool1::cool1:

I have also branched out. I get pins wherever I travel now. Easy to purchase and pack. I have National parks, pins from museums and other places I have traveled. I also have a small lot with that has imagery of Women during WWII. It's a lot of fun. It grabbed hold of me and I never got into collecting anything else after I started.
