*Should* you bring soda on a Disney Cruise

I already know you *can* bring soda on a cruise by stuffing whatever you can into your carry-on. The question, though is: *Should* you?

DW and I are big soda drinkers, me more than she. I don't drink coffee, tea, liquor, or water if I can avoid it... I am almost exclusively a diet cola drinker.

Now, I know I can just pop on up to the soda dispenser any time I want, and I have an extra-large 'water' bottle that can hold a ton of soda.

But then, it's nice to be able to just grab a can of soda in the morning and pound it down to wake up. With a refrigerator in the cabin that sounds awfully appealing to me.

So, has anyone with as large a predilection towards soda consumption as I been on a Disney Cruise? Have you found bringing your own soda along worth it, or was popping up to the soda fountain easy enough that it wasn't burdensome.

Thanks. :)

Depends on the deck you're on. If you're on 9 or 10 it's not that bad but if you have to wait on the elevator constantly it could get old for you. I brought 12 of 12oz bottles of Coke Zero on our last cruise because they didn't have Coke Zero in the drink stations. I only drank 6 of them. There's nothing wrong with bringing a few of the little bottles with you for when you don't feel like running up. Ultimately its up to you and what you feel like.

We've brought soda onboard because they don't have what we drink. But, also, I personally don't like the soda mix in the dispenser. I think it's weak.

I'm a soda junkie and I brought on a 6 pack of Diet Coke in bottles, not for consumption on the ship but so I could take a bottle with me on port days.

I'm that way with coffee and have never found it a problem to walk up on deck to get a cup. We always stay on deck 8 or 9 on the Fantasy so it's easy to run up there. I like to go up and get a couple cups of coffee, a pastry and wake up peacefully in Satellite Falls, it's awesome up there.

I bring the 20oz or 16oz bottles. I do not like the Diet Coke on deck. The mixture is off! The dining room is fine and so are the bars (which you pay for) but imho the deck mixture is gross!

I am not a die hard soda drinker but DH is. He claimed that the Diet Coke on board did not taste the same as at home. Now that he has switched to Coke Zero (which wasn't on the Fantasy 9/15) we will definitely carry on a few. Thus, if it is important to someone in your party I would carry on some because the mixture on the decks aren't the same as what you get at home.

To me the soda on board tasted off. Im not sure what it was. But it didn't taste right. So if I had known we could, I would have brought some on.

I hate carrying extras on board. I order water and sodas from the room service. Yes, its expensive but I'm not carrying all these cans/bottles. But thats just me pixiedust:

DH is addicted to Diet Dr Pepper and it's not available onboard. So yes, we haul our own.

We carried some of our own on...mostly rootbeer to make floats with the softserve. (We also gave mini cans of root beer as part of our FEs). We also carried on water and a TON of booze. I think I roller bag was 120+ pounds when we weighed it on the hotels luggage scale.

I also agree that the soda on deck was off, but my opinion was that the water onboard was salty. I know its "impossible" to miss the sea salt, but I think they add minerals and salt back to the water to flavor it...and that salt made me retain a ton of weight. I mean, you can't gain 22+ pounds in 14 nights and then lose 22 pounds in less than a week if you are not dealing with water weight.

I bring on cans of La Croix flavored soda water since that isn't available on board and I like to drink one before bed every night, and I'll also bring some dr. pepper. I bring both because neither are available on board. if they were I would not bother.
Also I was wondering, can anyone confirm if they have soda water at the soda fountain on the magic recently? We were on the wonder in 2013 and they had one soda fountain with it, and on the dream in 2014 they did not.

You have to pay for soft drinks in the bars?

My sister and I describe the diet coke on deck as flat tasting. Not trully flat but that flavor. Hope that makes sense. So if you are like me and need to start your day with a diet coke either pack them or get the cans from room service again at an expense.

My ankles swell like crazy onboard. I thought it was the food all along but now I am thinking it may be the water. I may just bring bottled water onboard next trip and see if my legs swell as much. I drink a ton of water in the dining rooms at dinner so that could be the culprit.

How much soda and bottled water are you allowed to take on? (DH and I drink a lot of bottled water, I drink a Dr Pepper a day, and my brother and mom drink diet Pepsi like it's going out of style.)

No limit, but you have to have it in your carry on bags and lug it around with you until the staterooms are ready at 1:30.
