Should we try VGF or stick with BWV?

The 7 month window is coming up to book at VGF for our early March trip. My family loves the Boardwalk because of the close proximity to Epcot and HS and of course if we can get it...a Boardwalk view.

We've never stayed at a monorail resort so that appeals to me but we do not spend as much time at MK as the other parks. As stated in other threads, it may be easier to get into early on.

Any thoughts would be appreciated :-)

Do you think it's worth the point difference? That's probably how I would decide. Also, the monorail isn't that close to the VGF rooms.

If it is available and you would like to try it, then go for it! Why not do split stay? A couple days at VGF and do MK, the rest of the time at BWV? That is what I would do.

I say go for it!!! :goodvibes

I like the suggestion of doing a split stay but understand if you don't want to move during your stay. If VGF were open earlier in October, I would have done a split stay. Instead, we are staying at BWV (our home) the whole week.

I know walking is much shorter but you could always monorail over to EPCOT. Good luck with your decision.

When our 7 month window opened there was availability at VGF and we jumped on it. So excited!!

The ride on the monorail to EPCOT is nice. We did like the convenience BCV had to EPCOT, but the newness of VGF is what appealed to us.

We have the boardwalk villas (boardwalk view) booked for our Nov. trip during the end of food and wine. I thought about doing a split stay and just doing VGF for the last 2 nights just because we LOVE the boardwalk and I could not get it. I even logged on at 8am and nothing was available. I would try to do the split stay and if you get it great. BWV is your home resort so you know you can always stay there.

Good Luck !

I'm confused.

I thought we only had a 4 month window.

I've been waiting for August 16th to roll around so that we could try to change our December 16th reservation at BLT to VGF.

Help!

You have a 4 month window until bookings starting January 1, 2014. Then the standard 7 month window applies.

Thanks everyone... we may do that split stay and get the best of both.

One other ? - did I miss something and after January 1 there will be a 4 month window instead of 7?

For stays on or before Dec 31, 2013, there is a four month ressie window for non-owners. For stays in 2014, the 7 month window applies and thus you can reserve soon for your early March trip.

You are having the same thoughts as us. Right now I have a BWV reservation for May but am considering switching to VGF when the 7 month window opens. We have done BLT and it was very good. Decision will probably come down to whether DW wants to do dinner at V&As one night (likely).

I would do VGF now, as I suspect bookings for non-owners will be easier now while the resort is still in active sales than later after it's sold out.

You need to try each resort at least once. If available, I would stay at VGF.

If you are interested in VGF, I would go for it for two reasons.

1. I think bookings are easier right now, as more is sold, I think they will become more difficult. (exactly what dvc_john said)

2. It will be closer to pristine, having only been open for 4 or 5 months. I am personally thrilled to be staying there starting 12/1, it being only open for 5 weeks.

Only reason I would say not to is if you have a lot planned right now, and points are more precious than they would be in the near future. If they extra point usage isn't going to change any plans, then go for it!

Another vote for going with the VGF. Will lots of points declared, but not all sold yet this is probably one of the best times to get a room at 7 months. Once the resort is sold out I think VGF will be very hard to get.

BWV is also our favorite resort, but I'm definitely going to try and switch into VGF for at least a few days on our next trip once VGF is open.

Another frugal DVC point user here. I wouldn't do it unless you really have a strong desire to experience the Grand Floridian.

Easier booking vs more points.
I say go for it if you can swing the points and it doesn't interfere with your future vacation plans. We are staying at VGF in Feb for 4 nights. My guess is due to the small size it may be difficult to get into once point sales are strong for awhile.

If family loves BWV location they're going to find VGF inconvenient - make sure they up for the transit.

i'm a firm believer in trying every resort at least once.
imho, a split stay would be perfect: a few nights at GFV (how many depending on the length of your vaca), and making plans at MK, and maybe visiting poly (kona), etc.
ending your vacation at the BWVs, and visiting EPCOT/DHS.

we found that foregoing the BWVs over an entire vacation made us sad (yup, we've got a problem ), so starting with "try a new resort nights" and ending vacations at the BWV worked wonderfully.

have fun!:)

We are trying AKV Kidani now. It is nice but home is where the BW is. We look forward to ending our stay @ BWV
