Does DCL ships have libraries?

Resurrecting an old zombie thread: Does Treasure have a space in Cove Cafe for books like the first four ships do?

There WAS a library on the Magic when I first started sailing with Disney - but it's gone. And the book trading thing in the Cove Cafes went belly up during Covid. I asked if I could leave a couple books there in 2024 and the Cove person said "They will just be thrown away" which is sad. As far as I know this is fleet wide. I ended up leaving them at Guest Services for the crew library. Heck, they used to sell about 12 titles in the little shop. Now they don't even sell cough drops!

I remember it was quite small and tucked away. Very quiet. It also had puzzles and a few tables. Now if I need a table to write or draw at I go into Cabanas after lunch is over. It’s relatively quiet there. And I bring a few books with me. My next cruise is 13 nights. I think I can get through 5 or 6 books?!

Everyone always says bring a kindle.
Boring. No passion, mystery, no spontaneity in a slick, compact, perfectly organized kindle. I want the joy of shuffling through shelves of random, awkward books I never would have chosen on my own. I want to be forced out of my comfort zone by a limited selection to take a chance on a new genre or author. I want the romance of reading a book I know others before have also read at sea. Come on, DCL, give us libraries! I think I want to go on Holland America tbh.

I picked a book up on my first RCL Alaska cruise and you BET I spent most of the last sea day reading so I could finish it! haha

I can tell you are a reader Moonspinner! Before one of my longer cruises (on DCL) I bought a book in the airport. I NEVER do that. Thank goodness because one of the books I brought with me was an absolute stinker. Should have been thrown overboard. Now I am trying to read at least 10 pages of every book I want to bring (for November) because books ARE heavy. I love the paper and highlighting passages and turning down corners and just reading 'one more page' and being able to go back to find out, Who is Russel?? I am bringing an old Kindle in case we get stranded like Gilligan. But I don't enjoy reading on it. It's for emergencies only.

The library I remember was on the Magic. No clue what they did with the space. Honestly one shelf (there's NOTHING on the shelves of the Cove Cafe of any interest) for books, magazines people are done with. My next cruise has 7 sea days in a row and I doubt there are any English books to be bought at any of our port stops. Plus there are some wonderful books, classic and otherwise, written about the sea!

Gotta say, as much as I love Disney (I love Deck 4 at night and the coziness of the cabins) they kinda don't seem to listen. . . .

I'm team ereader here - I find I have more spontaneity with an ereader than physical books. I don't pick what I want to read ahead of time, I decide when I'm onboard and finish the previous book. I do add items ahead of time though, based on recommendations from friends, coworkers, or online I pick up here and there. I definitely have a small library's worth of options at my fingertips now, and constantly adding more!

You have to have wifi though to download a new book, right? Which means paying DCL - I swear it was $28 the last time I was onboard? I understand the appeal, just never liked how they felt. I would hold it with my left hand but to turn the page I had to use my right hand. It's not any easier than a paper book.

I got converted to ereaders when I was a new mom and nursing. So much easier to set my kindle on something, like a pillow, then I only needed to tap to turn a page. I found it easier to manage than a paper book.

Then I realized how much it simplified travel. No need to pack 5 books (I read a lot!), just load up the Kindle and go. I use my library and check out a lot of ebooks, plus I watch for ebook sales. I get everything downloaded before I travel and then don’t need to worry about connecting to the internet.
