we will be there June 22-24, Any ideas for a strategy to do this without a 6 hour wait?

My guess would be the same rules for anything. Be at the gate 30 mins before park open and go directly to the ride for the shortest wait, or snag a fastpass for later. Will this ride have Fastpass??

I would NEVER wait that long for 1 ride. My ride wait max is 1 hour and that's pushing it.

Nope, no fastpass for Toy Story Midway Mania at DCA. Toy Story at DHS does have FP, but not the DCA version.

Getting there right before closing might be the perfect time to try and ride.

We did this with Nemo back in December and it worked just fine. We got in ilke about 10 minutes to closing and waited about 25 minutes.. You can get in line at 11:59 if say the park closes at 12 and they will still let you ride.
